  1. Over the past decade, I think it's rather apparent that Boyle has been closing the gap. Otherwise, for all and any other programs who want to be among the elite, its a matter of an all-in mentality that includes undivided support from students, parents, communities and the school systems. It's not a matter of having one of the four, or three of the four but ALL to become an elite, consistently tradition rich program.

  2. I cannot see the Dragons keeping Williamsburg to 3 or less scores. Lexington Christian did not do it last year. Anyone know the last time Burg was held to 21 or under?

Lexington Christian pulled their starters midway throught the third quarter in that one. That game was a route by all means, and a good amount of Williamsburg's points came once the starting defense from LCA was celebrating on the sidelines. Harlan and Lynn Camp held Williamsburg to 28 last year. With Harlan returning nearly all of its defense, it's not a stretch to think they can hold them to one less score.

Williamsburg is a solid and VERY well coached team. They have in my opinion, one of the best schemes in the mountains and they adjust according to their talent level every year almost perfectly. But to say it takes a monumental effort and a perfect game to hold them to 3 or less scores is giving them too much credit.

  3. Defensively, the key for Harlan, I think the key will be to make Williamsburg patiently move the ball on long drives, without giving up the homerun. If they can take away the big strike, and slow down the running game somewhat, I think they will win. I see Harlan moving the football well on the ground and finishing their possesions with points on the board.

    Harlan 30

    Williamsburg 21

  4. The score doesn’t dictate this one at all. This was more of a 28-14 game then 42-14, if that makes sense. They win regardless but the late TD in the 3th was with I believe 4 defensive starters out because of cramping, and the late TD in the 4th was borderline running it up on 4th down on the 2 yard line running a play action pass. Alcoa is a very, very talented team, but so is Bell Co. There are a lot of kids playing new positions this year and nearly all running both ways, just give it time to start clicking. The Bell offensive line dominated Alcoa’s d-line for the most part; I don’t see why Davenport wasn’t given more carries after ripping of the 70 yard TD.

I’m impressed with Alcoa fans, very down to earth and humble people. I talked to a few after the game and they had nothing but compliments on how hard Bell County played and how much of a hard fought game it was, especially in the first half when bell was giving them all they wanted and more. Also, did anyone else see the freshman, Polly, just fly across the field and nearly chase down #15 on the big gain from the screen pass late in the game? That kid has some wheels.

Alcoa pulled their first team offense with 6 minutes to go in the game. So if the second team was running up the score, then so be it. I was rooting for Bell personally, but this game was every bit of what the final score indicated. Bell did all they could to hang in as long as they did, but they were simply outclassed. Outside of St. X, Trinity and Highlands noone in this state could match up with Alcoa any better than Bell did.

  5. A few of the boys are currently working out , but they need a head coach put into place so they can pull together as a team.

Copley has turned his back on these boys, even though they had nothing to do with his dismissal. Copley has a lot of growing up to do. Good Luck Greenup County.

I seriously hope this opinion dosen't represent the sentiment of the Pikeville football program......if so, maybe more than a coaching staff needs reshuffling
