I do agree that we do need to give it time to see what happens.
And there will never be a solution for everyone on this issue.
HOWEVER, traveling across one side of the state is a BIG ISSUE in my opinion, for three or four of your district games. How is that being fair to players?

Looks like I opened up a can of worms on this ONE!!!!

Just read the Lex Hearld and some coaches like the new 6 classes, while some oppose it. So how you would fix it to make everyone happy?
I would like to see something like this:
1. Keep the 6 Classes - But each team must stay in the Class that they were assigned. (They cannot move up to another class) Teams are assigned to a class based on the schools population.
2. All teams in the state are assigned to a "Conference" that they will play in. Each Conference may be made up with teams from different classes, but they would be competative and would save time and money from traveling such long distances (Like today we have some teams traveling 3 hours to play a district game)
2a. For Example: A conference could be made up with these teams based on their location from each other: Pulaski County, South Western, Russell County, Somerset, Wayne County, McCreary Central, and RockCastle County. Teams from different classes would be represented, but each playing to try and win a Conference Championship. (Winning a conference title would automatically put you into the playoffs in your class, placing 2nd, 3rd, etc... would only mean that you placed 2nd, 3rd, etc... in that Conference)
There would no longer be just the top four teams from each district going to the playoffs - you would only be going into the playoffs based on your seasons record and a ranking system.
3. A ranking system would be in place to rank all teams in each class. Only the top 32 teams from each class would be heading to the playoffs. The playoffs would be set in relation to location for regional games in each class. This would change each year of course depending on how each team does.
The ranking system would take into account the strength of schedule and the number of wins above .500. The strength of the conference would have a small percentage for ranking a team.
OK... I know that this may not be perfect, but at least I am throwing out an idea here... if you have something better or can add something to this, then lets hear it!!!

Give me a break on that score won't you? While Somerset is a good team, are they that much better? PC has really good size up front and has alot of speed in the skill positions. I also think the edge at QB goes to PC.
I also believe that the edge mentally goes to PC because the pressure is not on them to win. At the scrimmage in N. Laurel, Somerset's O-line couldn't pick up the blitz well and you know that they will see a ton of it at the Ray Correll.
Mentally I think that PC is pressured to win - Somerset has their number.

SOMERSET - best team
Here is something to ponder on.... imagine if there was only one HS football team in Pulaski CO. - Talk about a PROGRAM.
-
Who is going to be the QB at Somerset this year?

I don't know if this has ever been asked before, but here it is. If you could design your own field house / playing surface for your football team, what would you include with it and what would be awsome about it? No limits on money and no one to tell you NO that you can't have it. Anything goes.
My field house for my team would include this:
1. A huge locker room for the players with big lockers (everyone would have their own - no one would have to share)
2. A weight room with the lastest weights / stations / etc...
3. A turf room with an official football field (turf) to practice in case of extreme bad weather.
4. Players lounge with displays of former teams / trophies / awards / coaches / etc...
5. Offices for all of the coaches with up to date technology
6. Storage rooms for all of the equipment of players and football equipment
7. Trainers room with up to date technology and med equip.
8. A walkway entrance to the field that connects to the field house
9. Four practice fields (bermuda grass of course)
10. I think I would want the new turf for the playing field.
So what is something that you would add or take away or completely design for yourself?
-
I would also have to add this too.... You gotta have players on your team that have HEART. They truely care about the game and their teammates, to make them work harder and take their game to the next level.

I think to win a state championship the players must be led by TEACHERS not SCREECHERS A teacher is one who mentors and models, a screecher is one who belittles and berates. There is entirely too much of the latter going on these days. If I did or said in my classroom what some of the coaches I've seen and heard do or say . . . I wouldn't have a job. In my opinion, a kid who thinks you hang the moon will put in anything it takes to get there in the end. If they don't think so, because of the words and actions they have received . . . there is not much left except going through the motions. Talent will take you a little ways but true caring and respect will carry you the distance.
Sounds like good stuff here

Has for me....playing an these places were tough back in the early 90's.
Belfry (The ride over was awful)
Middlesboro (The fans were ready to fight you at any given minute)
Corbin (This place had no mercy on you)
Prestonsburg (The place was crazy! Fans were nuts and they had players that would HIT!)
-
I would say Vipperman Stadium. I know it's closed now but that was a very special place to go and the atmosphere was second to none.
I remember back in the day playing Belfry at that stadium.... the worst part was the bus ride up and down those two mountains.... that was enough to make you sick and take you out of playing your game.

No, this is not the forum for that debate. The comments in that regard need to stop.
Totally agree with you on that too!!

Aside from a little luck and a great program? It takes talent, great coaching, an entire returning team to buy into the idea that the road to a state championship starts the day after the previous season ends. Most teams and players fail to realize that level of commitment and consequently only have a few individuals that have put the necessary time in. At great programs like HHS, Trinity, ST. X and so on, the kids there know what it takes and what is expected inorder to become champions. You can't start working hard after the dead period and expect to still be playing in December.
I totally agree with you on those points!

SW vs RC will be a very good game in my opinion. Give the win to SW - they looked good at the passing league games. SW by 14!
Somerset vs PC - I give the nod to Somerset - PC was down last year and I don't think they had much coming back. Plus - who is going to keep up with COLE??? - your answer = NO ONE! Somerset by 20!
-
How about the will to JUST WIN!! I can remember back to my senior season and we went to state and beat teams that we probably shouldn't have been on the field with. We (the players) had a will to WIN, and we pulled off one of the greatest upsets in football.
-
I know that the state championship games won't be played until December, but we all know that what we are doing now with our summer practices can have an impact with what we do in the upcoming season. So let's hear it from you, what do you do at practice, what do you say at practice, or what do you believe in to make your team practice like a state champ?
-
I think Mercer outscored Somerset 38-0 in last years scrimmage. Good call there.
Are you sure about that?? Or are you thinking about a different scrimmage? Somerset had them outplayed last year.
-
Have you watched the same somerset/MC scrimmages I have??
Been there in person. Somerset always gives them more than they can handle.
-
Here is the bottom line. No contract means No game. Period. Every HS School in the state of KY knows THAT! And I am actually suprised that MC wanted to play Somerset, because Somerest has always made them look bad in past scrimmages for the past several years, including last years scrimmage.
