  1. I said it in the Marine t shirt thread and I'll reiterate it here: a rule is a rule. If we expect kids to get that message, parents better show they get that message. What an absolutely poor example those committing the excessive celebration provided for their children.

But jeezil petes, if I can't have the discipline to control myself I should be ashamed of myself. Hoop and holler all you want after the ceremony is over, but don't detract from the ceremony or the other people wanting to hear their children's name be called. It's really not that difficult of a rule to comply with in my opinion.

You and I live in a community where that type of parental respect still prevails. Sadly it's becoming more rare by the day.
  2. Your reading comprehension is pretty low.

I asked a direct question for which no one (save Walter below) seemed willing to compile a list. It was a simple request and got responses about players that were not in the time frame specified and others that did not receive scholarships and still others that were not at Division 1 schools.

Your addition must have been a problem as well in school. The list Walter provided (minus the 2 even he lists that are not from the '99 season to today) shows 10 versus the 8 I listed. How that gap is huge is seen only through your Stevie Wonder eyes. :thumb::sssh:

Wow! Being confused as you were made you very angry. There's a difference in not getting answers and just not liking the answers you get. And yes, that gap is huge....enormous actually.
  3. When I asked about D 1 Scholarships received by Bird players, I never got a complete list and some of the lists were well beyond the time frame I wanted us to adhere too. Others cited players who did not receive D 1 schollys as the term normall implies. Still others cited Super Bowl stuff.
So, the fact that no one was able to remember enough names for you to feel satisfied, somehow makes them evasive? Your question was answered as well as could be reasonably expected.

You are right on one thing...the gap is not "large."

    It's huge!

  4. I wish Pulaski all the luck in the world; but I'm here to give you a heads up. Reality check time. Da da da da da da da da enters the Twilight zone! Take my warning Pulaski, you're about to enter into a world that you have never experienced -- that of shock and ewe, that of envy. The level of play you have never seen! It will not surprise me if Highlands can put as many points on the board as they want to. Hate that you won't get the opportunity to enjoy the cannon of old! You will get the experience of a lifetime. Just remember state championships do go through Highlands! Highlands will be up 21 before Pulaski can figure out that the game has started.

Now you Enter the Highland Zone!

Think that will work to fire up your Maroons? :sssh:
  5. I'm not one to question relationships in Ft. Thomas b/c of how deep ties go in the community, but from the sounds of it, many people didn't know what was going on behind closed doors there.
I think most people strongly doubt that anything was. But you touched on something that is very true; the ties in this community to the McCafferty family are wide and deep. Bob was a gregarious man and highly involved in the community. And of course, the kids both go to school here.
  6. Investigators found a jacket that had evidence that showed that it had been wrapped around the murder weapon -- ostensibly to muffle the sound. In the pile of clothes (where another bullet had been found) they found a shirt that had also been wrapped around a fired weapon.

The defense did not call the children, Cheryl's mother, family members, coworkers, abuse experts or therapists to testify about abuse.

  7. If this were to occur, there should be plenty of ways to corroborate her claims of being a battered spouse. Not that I've really followed this trial, but apparently the defense offered no such evidence, which I find rather odd.
You're right. Perhaps there's a reason for that. And perhaps that's why we didn't hear any questioning of the kids on that point.
  8. For those of you that have been following the trial what evidence did the defense offer up to prove that the abuse was a continuing course of conduct? Were there prior police reports? Prior medical reports of injury? Prior court action? Prior EPO/DVO orders? Or is it he said, she said or in this case only she said?
From what's being reported in the media, the defense has really offered no other evidence than Cheryl's own words and hearsay. They did have the ER nurse that said she saw some evidence of minor facial injuries, but nothing concrete. As far as I know, the kids said nothing about abuse. I think we're all just like shaking our heads at the lack of evidence presented. I personally think she's guilty, but still surprised the defense hasn't offered up a stronger argument.
  9. The fact that the defendant's friend's testimony just contradicted her own testimony doesn't bode well for the defendant. According to the paper that's the second contradiction pointed out by the prosecution.
I agree and hope you're right. It's just a small part of the mounting body of evidence for the prosecution.
  10. Something unusual must have happened. The jury and spectators were ushered out. When they were brought back in, there was a fifteen minute bench conference and then the defense just rested. Seems really odd.

The prosecution came back with one rebuttal to defense teatimony and then the trial wrapped up. Closing arguments will be Monday and then the jury will get the case.

  11. I agree completely. There should just be two teams advancing in each district. This is especially true now that we've spread the wealth out across (a ridiculous) six classes.

This season, you have teams like winless Glasgow, Clinton County (having won no district games) at 1-9, McCreary Central (needing only to edge a winless team to advance) at 4-6. In this year's playoffs, there are 69 teams with a losing record; and over a dozen of those have won less than two games. Making it so easy to get into the playoffs just diminishes the sense of accomplishment, and gives some teams nothing to strive for.

  12. Okay, you've got a special need child that reads on a 1st grade level and they're in a regular ed classroom reading Julius Caesar. Please tell me how this is going to help them. You're not allowed to fail them and they know that, so who do you think does their work for them.
The concept of "special needs" children is far broader than just slow learners or those with behavioral problems. It takes in the whole gambit of disabilities.
  13. With 36.8 seconds left in that game, Mason County's Ethan King was going in for a layup when Shelby County's Donovan Johnson was called for an intentional foul. Setty was not in the game but came several feet onto the floor.

The referees conferred at the time and gave Setty a technical foul but did not disqualify him from the game. Moore said he was then informed that Kentucky High School Athletic Association officials had ruled Setty would have to sit out.

But a half hour later -- 20 minutes before the game -- Setty was cleared to play. He joined his teammates a few minutes late for warmups.

"There were a lot of kids upset and a lot of people in administration upset," Moore said. "So we met with (the KHSAA), and I think they made the best decision for the kids and I appreciate them for having the power, which they do, but also having the courage to do what is right for kids."

KHSAA sports information director Butch Cope said Setty was not disqualified because officials ruled that there was no indication a fight would break out. National Federation of High Schools rules disqualify a player if he "leaves the confines of the bench during a fight or when a fight may break out."
