  1. If they offered it to Bert, I would say that he would take it. Richmond isn't far from Lincoln Co & the drive is pretty peaceful honestly, would also depend on if they have a position for him, which I have found is somewhat easier to do in the county schools than in some of the cities in the Commonwealth. I am honestly surprised that he hasn't made a push to get back into the college game, I'm sure he could catch on somewhere. Johnny Poynter is also another good option as some have mentioned, not sure if the moving and shaking that he has done recently would scare some people off from him. I'm not sure, but has anyone thought about Bill Letton? I have heard that he applied for several positions but came up empty handed (hearsay probably)

Bill Letton would be an excellent candidate!! Where did he go after leaving Lexington Catholic?

  2. Bert Browne is the name I am hearing, out of the Lincoln Camp, as a possible candidate. What kind of fit would he be for Lincoln? Would he still be at Madison Central had it not been for the Chuck Smith incident where he took the job and then resigned?

  3. This was posted recently on the WPBK-FM Facebook page:

    Speaking of football......

Chuck Smith is back at Boyle County, Jerry Perry is back at Garrard County and some have suggested Marty Jaggers back at Lincoln County.

That would turn time back about 20 years. Would we get 1990's gas prices, too?

Wonder if he would be interested?

  4. I was told today that there have been several applications submitted for the head coaching position. The committe will now begin researching the applicants. I was not told who they are, nor do I think they will release the names of those who have applied.

  5. According the the team roster from last year, Lincoln had more players than almost any of the years that Settles was at Lincoln. I know that the head principal helped Settles to hire 2 assistant coaches who would teach in the high school. The principal also gave him a very flexible class schedule that moved him to the PE department and created an in school weightlifting class. I would think that a coach looking at the position could see that support is there from the principal, and the time that he gave Settles would indicate he is patient.

Having said all of that...what realistically be done? They are not going to pay the next coach $90,000. The facilities are more than adequate. What would the new coach need? Those are legitimate questions.

  6. Here is the latest on the process:

As of today there are no applicants for the job and the principal, Tim Godbey, is working to put together the search committee who will assist him in the decision. As with most positions, there will be a teaching job tied to it, so the 30 day posting will apply to the teaching position that Coach Settles has resigned from. Settles taught some PE classes and also kept the in school suspension classes.

Coach Settles was on WPBK-FM this past Saturday morning and he said that the current assistants are continuing the weight lifting program and will conduct Spring practice when it begins.

  7. I am sorry to see Coach Settles resign. He truley is a fine Christian man who always treated the kids with respect. What he had to deal with over the past couple of years would weigh on anybody. His overall record may not have been that good, but he worked so hard with what he had to try to get the most out of his players. Some of the things that a few of his players (and their parents) said about him is the past, they should be ashamed of. He always had their best interest at heat. He will be missed!

  8. Back to the point about assistant coaches chuck smith, french, and i believe this may be true of Hilton also, these guys worked with mostly guys all ready in the system when they arrived, and made them good assistant coaches. It is no secret that Boyle co, anf Bell co, both barely new where the football field was before these guys showed up. And the same can be said for Lincoln co, befor french came. It starts at the top. So if Corbin hires a dud coach or someone without experience, i dont care how many good assitants they have it will not go far. And why wouldn't they get the best. They have the support an money, why would you take a chance on an unknown. That is what Kentucky does with thier football, so far ir aint working.

How can you say that Lincoln County did not know where the field was before French went there? Have you forgotten about Larry Phillips and his teams? Included a state runner up in 1990. Or Marty Jagger's and his teams? Including a state runner up in 1993 AND Mr Football Jeremy Simpson? French was good for Lincoln. But his teams did not accomplish what others did.
