  1. Russell will be the biggest challenge to Belfry in awhile, as rgn 4 has been down this year with exception to Belfry and Russells competition has been better..This could be a factor, but, most likely the team that wins the battle in the trenches, wins the game. I like belfrys grind it out style running game against a usually solid Russell D..

    Belfry 20 Russell 14

  2. Bullitt East has really flown under the radar this year and are alot better than people thought. They do have a potent offense, but, haven't played a defense this strong, all year. BGs offense has been up and down at times this year, but, BEs defense hasn't been there strong suit..I think BGs offense will be able to score 2 or 3 tds, which should be plenty with the D they have. You also have throw in an extra score for the homefield advantage....Bowling Green 24 B.East 14

  3. At the beginning of the year, I really felt like Mayfield was the team to beat in 1a. They had 17 returning starters, got Fred Brown back after a year of injury and then got the transfer Hatchell from Caldwell Co..I even thought they had a shot at running the table..Then when they got hammered by Marshall Co in the 2nd game, followed by a heartbreaking loss to Hopkinsville in the 3rd and then gave the game to Tilghman in the 5th game, I thought I may have been overestimating there talent and ability. Little did anyone know, at the time, how good Marshall really was and that Hopkinsville may have lacked some star quality talent of past teams, but, they were still pretty solid, as was Tilghman..But, since that loss to PT, the Cardinals have reeled off 8 straight wins in convincing fashion and seem to be getting better every week..Since about midseason, I've felt Bardstown deserved to be ranked #1, ahead of the traditional "Big 4" because it seemed they were playing the best ball and were the only undefeated team left in 1a, and, I think they'll be the favorite in this game and well should be, but, imo, there going into unfamiliar territory with a 4 hour drive against a very hot and hungry team. I look for the Tigers to have a few big plays and the Cards to play ball control, grind it out football and the way the Cards OL and DL has played these past few weeks and there strong kicking game, look for this to be the difference....Mayfield 17 Bardtown 14

  4. Absolutely NOT...However, you know it will be in the back of their collective mind.

Do you think they know this?

In 45 years since the playoff system began in 1959, Highlands has:

    25 District Champs (56%)

    23 Regional Champs (51%)

    5 State Runner-up (11%)

    16 State Champ (36%)

Between their State Runner-ups and their State Championships, the Birds have appeared in 47% of the title games. They average a State Championship game appearence every 2.1 years with a crown every 2.8 years.

Do you think they will think about it as they enter David Cecil Memorial Stadium on Friday?

I don't think these kids on LC really care what other LC teams in the past did.. We're not just talking the last 2 years..Many of the big games played with Boyle in the past were when these kids were in 6th to 8th grade..as far as playing a traditional powerhouse, i believe thats even more motivation for them, especially when they know on athleticism alone, they should win...

  5. Hoptowns defense has not been stellar this year, so, expect Hibbitt and Co to put some points up, the Tigers have always had skilled offensive players and this year is no exception, but, in the past, they've had some very good QBs who could keep a team honest with his arm, which is lacking this year..I do look for Taylor to make a big play or 2 and the Tigers to play up to the level of competition, but, BGreen just has too many hosses on both sides of the ball...BGreen 31 Hopkinsville 14...

  6. I personally don't think tradition has any bearing on the outcome...Different years, different teams and Bardstown won't roll over or get flustered if things aren't going well..Yes, Danvilles out of district schedule was tougher, but, Bardstowns district was tougher and thats what each team has been playing for the last 5-6 weeks.. Danvilles speed will keep em close, but, imo, Bardstown will make a few more big plays and come out on top...If Danville wins, it'll be very close whereas if the Tigers win, it could be by alot...
