Miguel Merritt of Hopkinsville was outstanding in '95 and became a starting LB for Alabama. But it was was a tall task to beat out Tim Couch even though Merritts team beat Couch's team 60 something to 0.

No question what Chuck Smith accomplished is short of amazing. But I do believe he caught "lightning in a bottle". Nobody knew his name nor cared who he was his first 15 years as a head coach, because he won nothing. I sat in the stands and watched Danville beat his Boyle Co. team 60-7 in the last regular season game of 1998. Of course by the end of 1999 his legend was begininng to grow, and in spite of what you may think, a tremendous run of high school talent mixed with 5-6 division 1 calibar players over that time span created a dynasty. It was a perfect storm, so to speak.Chuck Smith is arguably the greatest KY high school football coach ever considering what he achieved but the most impressive part is he did it without D1 skilled athletes. -
Trinity should handle BG to about the tune of 42-20. But for the record, BG also handled Bob Redmons Male team in Louisville. They also handled Ballard and Butler in Louisville in recent memory. The only time they've lost to a Louisville school in Louisville was to Waggener in '98.

Why would Hines need a locker room? PC is less than a mile from Somersets field and they could dress in their own locker room, load a bus for 5 minutes, and go play. The only team that actually needed a locker room to dress in is Rockcastle.

I don't disagree with what LN is saying. However, while other teams may actually return more on offense and/or defense each year, the players that must be replaced are a lot of times replaced with sophmore and junior players and not seniors that have been in the program for 4 years. That, IMO, is where T and X ultimately end up gaining an advantage whether it is early in the season or late.

BG gets killed most every year they make it to the finals..Until they beat a Northern or Eastern Kentucky team in the finals. They won't get my respect or my vote for top 3.......
I won't disagree with that, but they are pretty good in the finals if they get Highlands.:thumb:

No disrespect intended, but what exactly has Highlands and Dixie done the past 2 years to be ranked 1A and 1B? Johnson Central won more playoff games last year than in the history of their school! They are going to have to be more than a one year wonder for me to consider them a 1C. Highlands hasn't done anything but get beat by the eventual state champion the past 2 years. That is exactly what BG has done, yet you talk about BG not deserving of their ranking the past two years and Highlands should be? Highlands was ranked #1 all last year and Cov Cath was an after thought until they beat the Birds. The regular season victory was considered a fluke until Cov Cath dominated them even more in the playoff game. Not to mention that Highlands has been dominated by St X two years in a row while BG lost by 7 in '05 and 8 in '06. There are only 3 teams that can claim anything over BG the past 2 years and that is St X, Lex Cath, and Cov Cath (all private schools).Back to the thread, I'd probably have Highlands 1A, Dixie 1B and Johnson Central 1C. No disrespect to BG intended, but they still have not proven to me that they deserve the rankings and hype that they have been given the last two years based on their championship game performances. -
Look for this team to turn some heads for real and meet up with B.G. in the regional final, and moving on to play the Highland Bluebirds for the 5A state.
If they meet up with BG it will be in the State Semi finals, not the region final. I like Hopkinsville or Christian to take care of Owensboro in the second round. Owensboro has won 1 playoff game in 5 years.

The very short history of John Hardin does not incline me to believe they are a top 5 5A team when considering all that are in 5A. They had a very good year in '05, but other than that they've been 3-7 in '01, 6-4 in '02, 6-5 in '03, 6-5 in '04, 11-2 in '05, and 7-4 in '06. They have been very successful for a program that has been in existance for just 6 years, but to proclaim them a top 5 team ahead of defending champs Cov Cath and an unranked defending champion Mercer Co. team is a stetch IMO. John Hardin's best wins in 2006 were against a 6-5 North Hardin team and a 7-6 Meade Co. team that came back to knock them out of the playoffs. They also lost to 2A Larue Co.

Why not play baseball at Vanderbilt? He has the grades and the ability. They were the number 1 team in the nation in baseball most of the season. Just my opinion.
There is no such thing as a full ride in baseball. All division 1 baseball programs have approximately 11.5 scholarships to divide up amongst the 30 or so players on the team. Most big time baseball players get drafted and start playing professional baseball right out of high school. Unless he is going to get drafted pretty high and put a significant amount of money in the bank, football is the best route financially.

My preseason vote goes to Aaron Boyd of 6A Henry Clay.He plays in a big media market and returns the QB that will get him the ball. He already has more than a dozen division 1 offers.

Is Henderson County a better job than Oldham County?
Personally I think I would rather have been at Oldham than wither Pikeville or Henderson County.
Henderson is a much better job than Pikeville and Oldham isn't even in the same universe as Henderson.

This past year Mercer played 3 teams their own size, one bigger (S.Laurel), and two a little bigger than (Boyle Co. and LaRue Co, both 4A schools with enrollments over 800, and Boyle being closer to 900). Mercer beat S.Laurel 53-6, Boyle 27-14 and a very talented LaRue Co. team 56-14. I dont care what anybody wants to say about Boyle being down, because they were a very good team, just so happened that the 5 teams they lost too in the regualar season had a record of 47-3, four of those teams went undefeated in the regular season. Im not making predictions, but if Mercer stays healthy this year, then theres a going to be a lot of people eating crow as the season goes along, mark that down.
South Laurel was 3-8. Boyle was a .500 (6-6) team that lost to teams with glowing records, but of their 6 wins, only 2 came against a team with a winning record and that was a 6-5 Marion Co. team which Boyle beat twice once by 8 and the second time by 12. Mercer will be a good team, but things will not be as easy as they were in 2006. In defense of the Titans, I remember after Boyle had won consecutive 2A titles in 99 and 2000, everyone said they'd never be able to do those things when they moved up to3A. Of course they went on to win 3 consecutive 3A titles as well from 01-03and was the 3A runner up in 04.

My guess is that it will go to a first time Head Coach. Possibly a current defensive coordinator.
...and he may come from a military base. :sssh:

Congratulations to Coach Lovelace.
I would guess other coaches weren't interested because they knew Lovelace was the lead candidate from day one, as he should have been.

Madisonville now looks for their fifth head coach in five years.
That is almost unbelievable. Am I the only one that believes Madisonville could be one of the best jobs in West Ky? What are the problems at Madisonville? I understand that Burcham is from Trigg, but isn't Madisonville a better job than Trigg?

Anderson has 2pts for Central...If the crusaders hold him to that in the second half they'll stand a good chance of winning.

I hope Pardue, Hester, Mason and co. can right the ship for this year and from now on.
This gloom and doom attitude towards the exact same coaching staff minus Chuck Smith is amazing to me. There was no way Boyle was going to maintain the level of winning they had for 6 years. Pardue and staff went 11-2 their first year and went 6-6 last year. The year before the Rebels started their amazing run of 5 straight titles and a runner up finish, they were 7-5 and were blasted by Danville 60-7 in the regular season finale. That was in the 8th year of Chuck Smith's tenure! If Boyle has 3-4 losing seasons in a row then maybe the Boyle contingent will have a reason to complain but not before then IMO.

If JBS can get it past halfcourt they'll be looking at a tough in your face man to man. Long rebounds on missed 3pt attempts lead to easy layups for the Dragons.
-
I'll take Warren Central by 30 over JBS and by 15 over the Elliott/Shelby Valley winner.

Not long. Hard to believe he's not one of the top 2 kickers. If he's not, then the other 2 are top-notch.
Both kickers on the team signed D1 scholarships.
Is this Chris Pardue's last year at Boyle County?

The question the Boyle faithful need to ask themselves is who would they get that is better than Chris Pardue?
I can tell you. Nobody.
