  1. Some of you guys need to cut DreamKiller some slack. He's under a lot of pressure because his Atlanta Braves are in the playoffs and are going to disappoint him AGAIN this year!

    Go Cardinals! :thumb:

Also, everyone's invited to Princeton for this big DeSales-Caldwell semifinal! I just hope neither team overlooks anyone before then.

  2. I applaud Caldwell County for not running up the score on Union County, Ohio County, Trigg County and Ballard Memorial when it had the chance. However, if the Tigers had, their computer rankings would certainly look a lot better and maybe people would perceive the Tigers better in some areas than they currently do. Even against Fort Campbell, Caldwell was up 48-21 before getting out of its game and trying to run the clock instead of continuing to score.

The Tigers have played a lot of players in a lot of games this season, 1) to not get their starters hurt and 2) because there's no sense in just trying to see how many points you can score after the game has been decided.

The fact that Caldwell also beat DeSales when they met head-to-head just last year might also be enough to justify Caldwell being No. 1.

However, I can certainly understand putting the Colts at No. 1. They have been on a tear this year. You could see the hurt in their eyes after last year's loss to Caldwell and I'm guessing they are putting that to good motivation this season.

You could probably call one of them 1a and one of them 1b and be OK at this point.

It will be interesting to see where they both are in 5-6 weeks and who else has emerged at that time as well.

  3. Getting way ahead of ourselves but I believe Mayfield has the all the ingredients to beat Caldwell.

Fast, good QB, getting better on defense and played a much better schedule. A loss won't hurt either team but nobody wants to lose. In a few years I believe these teams will be in the same district.

I wonder how close Caldwell County is to going 3A in the next realignment. If memory serves, Caldwell and Union County were the two largest 2A schools the last time.

  4. Caldwell County isn't worried about how many yards it gives up. It just wants to create a couple of turnovers and get a couple of stops.

Caldwell simply wants to have more points on the scoreboard than you at the end of the night, whether that's 17-16 or 57-56.

The difference in the Fort Campbell game was Caldwell won the turnover battle 3-1 and made a pair of defensive stops on 4th and short. And Caldwell turned most of those into points.

The only mistake Caldwell made against Fort Campbell was trying to run some clock after it got up 48-21. The Tigers should have just kept trying to score, IMHO. Fort Campbell took advantage by making a couple of stops of its own, getting a couple of scores and very nearly making a game of it at the end.

  5. Fort Campbell actually outgained Caldwell County 560 yards to 552 tonight.

We had Luke with 228 yards rushing and 4 TDs and the one reception for 30 yards and a TD.

Sindelar finished with 380 yards and 6 TDs passing. Eli Pepper caught 3 TD passes while Jordan Young, Dee Cain and Elijah Anderson each had one.

It's the second-most yards in a game ever for Sindelar.

A good hard-hitting game. A shame about the personal fouls and ejections late in the game.

  6. I've already heard people say they aren't coming to Fort Campbell-Caldwell County if it's raining.

I don't mind a little rain. Just hope we don't see any of the lightning like we saw last year. Maybe we'll get lucky and this line will break up before it gets here.

Here's hoping we all catch a break, weather wise, Friday night.:thumb:

I wasn't at the 1985 game at Mayfield but I was on the sideline in 2009. What a mess!

  7. Hey, PTown, if the Mayfield/Graves game were to be moved to Saturday, I may stop at Caldwell/Fort Campbell!

7:00 Central time Friday at Tiger Stadium, which is easy to get to off the Parkway, Interstate or whatever we're calling it these days!

Coming from the east, just hang a right at the second Princeton exit and the schools and stadium are just a little ways out on your right.

I'm expecting a big crowd and a good game.

  8. 1917 Owensboro team went 7-0 and outscored foes 509-2.

    That's averaging 72.7 points a game ... and it was 1917!!!

I have no idea how long quarters were back then. From what I can tell, they just kinda made things up as they went.

From my research of old Princeton/Caldwell County teams, I've seen football games where the quarters were listed as 10 minutes, 12 minutes and/or 15 minutes.

  9. How much thought was given to Ballard Memorial? Bombers are 4-0 and have scored 206 points (the same as Caldwell County).

I realize that Ballard has played a weak schedule (and plays 0-4 Hopkins Central this week) but that's still pretty impressive.

As for Caldwell, I think a team with a lot of speed on defense will give them some problems (see: Murray 2012). I don't think anyone will completely shut down the Tiger offense, but a few stops in a high-scoring game could be all someone needs.

I agree with DreamKiller. Teams that primarily run the football aren't going to have a lot of success against Caldwell's defense. Teams that can throw it well, or at least mix up the pass and the run pretty good, should be able to have some success.

I think Fort Campbell will be another good test this week for Caldwell.

  10. Scribe, i would think it would be easy to have all day to throw, weave blankets etc....when the head official was from Caldwell and the mighty tigers had maybe 1 or 2 penalties called on them the whole night. Are they good,,,, YES, are the perfect???? .... poor number 53 for trigg will have to have a new jersey cause the one from this week got ripped to shreds by the tigers OL while they were "blocking" ...i am not making excuses simply stating facts. The Tigers WILL win the Class AA championship! and will probably go undefeated in doing it... however it will become a little more difficulty as they make it in the playoffs and have to play solid teams and the head referee does not live in the same county as the blue and gold...

The bad calls went both ways. Quit your whining.

That just wasn't a very good officiating crew.

  11. Powerhouse in football in the past

maybe not but they have several state titles and might have had more if not for being traditionally stuck in Mayfield's district

Caldwell was ranked 4th in the state one year. Didn't make the playoffs because Mayfield was No. 1 and Fort Campbell was No. 2. That's how tough the district used to be.

I think the Tigers have a pretty solid schedule this year. Christian County will normally be a tough matchup for Caldwell. Ohio is 5A and beat the Tigers 2 years ago. Fort Campbell is a quality 3A opponent. Green County is a good 2A trip this year and Mayfield is still Mayfield. Trigg typically plays Caldwell tough.

The Tigers played Franklin-Simpson the last 2 years, but Franklin chose not to renew that contract this year. Caldwell wanted to keep that date.

Caldwell has a really strong team, maybe the best team it's ever had. But it's not like they should load the schedule with Bowling Green, Trinity and Highlands. The Tigers got banged up enough playing Christian County.

Caldwell was actually fortunate to put together the schedule it did. I think this new scheduling grid is making it tougher for teams to fill out schedules.

  12. Caldwell Co. is FOR REAL, that's for sure.

Scary thing about Caldwell is, I didn't think they played very well offensively against Union County, especially in the passing game, and still scored 57 points and rolled up 560 yards of offense.

Caldwell also had a punt return and a kickoff return for touchdowns called back by penalties in that game.

It will be interesting to see what the Tigers can do when they put it all together. Right now, they're still looking for a couple of receivers to step up and they need to solidify some spots in the secondary.

But maybe I'm just being picky.:lol2:

  13. U-G-L-Y

One ugly game. Caldwell had over 200 yards in penalties. Tigers didn't really play all that well, except for a pretty good start.

Defense gave up just 11 yards rushing, but well over 300 passing. Got to get some things figured out in the secondary.

Union was very close to getting back in the game in the second half, 34-20 and with the ball. But Caldwell got a couple of stops defensively and used the ground game to regain the upper hand.

Good to look bad for a good portion of the night and still win 57-20 though.
