  1. Very disappointed in the fact that the Web cast did not go off live last nite. For a full week this live cast had been planned and talked about throughout the community and the schoold district but unfortunately because of some internal glitch the Webcast was not able to go live apparently because Highlands does not have the technical support nor the skills to assist and advise the Webcast crew. The crew has been working hard for three weeks now behind the scenes preparing for the big game and NOTHING. A few hours before kickoff the crew was basically told they were on their own with getting live. These guys are not technical gurus or computer specialists they are common guys that sell things like real estate, salad dressings and clean swimming pools for a living and they just simply want to bring the Birds live to you. Its not that the district doesnt have the tools, equipment or the technology but simply not the personnel or support to utilize perhaps some of the best equipment money can buy. This is a real concern to me not just as a Football fan but as a tax paying, private funding donor citizen that our money is sitting dormant and not being used to the fullest extent. Our Superintentent of Schools pushed big for this type of technology in our schools and we gave it to him. Now, its time to use it and the problem is there apparently isnt anyone who knows how to drive the bus. These guys were willing to step up to the plate and bring Highlands Football live for all those not fortunate enough to attend the games, such as the elderly, sick and those relocated Highlands fans not able to attend the game and someone other than the Volunteers just simply did not perform their duties and dropped the ball. Highlands Football is the best in the state of KY and I would like to think that with a little effort and commitment the District can make the Webcast part of that Tradition on Friday nites and give those Highlands faithful what they want. HIGHLANDS FOOTBALL LIVE. :thumb:

The "three amigos" have worked hard over the last several weeks to prepare themselves for the webcast. There is no doubt that it will be first class from start to finish... real estate, salad dressings and pool cleaning? I oft wandered what they did for a living!

On a side note, as of last Saturday the person they jusy hired to run the communications department, I will leave his name out of this for now, was not even aware of the attempt to webcast the games. He seemed very excited about the news... has kids that are taking journalism classes, etc. I think it just boils down to lack of communication with the folks with the technical knowledge...

  2. Let's not get too carried away on Highlands. LOL ... kind of funny to say that on here. I am referring to the "unbeatable, move up in class" type of comments. This year's team may be unbeatable but HHS is not doing this every year. Look at last year's playoffs ... round 1 HHS 28 Bryan Station 22 in a game HHS was lucky to win; HHS 35 Johnson Central 21; and it was 21 - 15 in the 4th quarter of the title game. In 2005 and 2006 they didn't even make it to the state semifinals. Give credit to the current seniors of HHS. There is some great talent there that has made them virtually unbeatable but they will graduate this year. So keep it in perspective. HHS has been beat many times in the past and they will be beat many times in the future. It is up to their opponents to step up to the challenge because they are beatable (but not this year).

2005 and 2006 squads played during the non-watered down 4A classes. I think that is what most are requesting... a return back to more competitive play during the playoffs.

  3.

    H

No Sir - The Loyal Fans will travel and be there. What I am curious about is the 'unafiliated populace" - from the BG area - who will turn up just to watch the game.

Maybe will be proved wrong - will be a simple resolution. Compare the #'s from BG with Louisville. GReat for the WKY teams - but somehow I think that kids all over this State aspire to play on the Carpet at PJCS.

Now it will be time to see how BG hosts these 2 days - compared to the known in lou.

The kids all over this state aspire to play in a championship game. They could give a horse's pit-u-ay (sp) on where the game is played. As far as the fans are concerned, I think many were growing tired of Louisville and the thousands of empty seats in the stadium. Many across the state have been filling their cars or jumping on buses for the event... curious if 'Louisvillians will do the same and show the same courtsey to Bowling Green...

  4. I just cant wait until the football fieldturf does get replaced so we can finally remove the CovCath jersey that was buried in there along with Jimmy Hoffa so the that Highlands can come clean from that nasty spell that was imposed on them. We can maybe call in Geraldo and Friends and maybe get Highlands some more National Attention. Finally, maybe Highlands can win some games there. WOW! That really worked.

I understand one couple may have a special attachment to the "H" at mid-field. They may request the "H".... for remembrance!

  5. They should put the old turf from the field in Death Valley.

Yeah... just shake the rug a few times to get the dirt out and lay it down in Death Valley! :ohbrother:

Plus they may want to invest approx. $150K to get some drainage flowing towards the Ohio River.

  6. I disagree. I was on a team that was the first in history to make it this far for their school and we were in a very similar situation going against a big time program. Weren't a bit scared as we felt we were invincible and ready to make history. I'm betting PC is feeling the same. BTW, we lost. :idunno:

Now when they get out there and experience the atmosphere first hand I expect they may get awfully nervous. At that point it can be very overwhelming and things very well may get out of hand in a hurray if they can't handle it.

I expect the Birds to win comfortably since I have faith in the coaches and senior leadership on this team. They're staying focused and overlooking no one. Go Birds!

You flippin have to be kidding me???

  7. I have read the articles regarding this case... I agree something doesn't make a whole lot of sense here... I realize the $600K life insurance policy recently taken out, but did the father take out the policy or the adopted son? Hmmm!

The FBI and State Police invested a lot of time, resources and money into this case... I am sure there are facts that are yet to surface.

  8. http://news.aol.com/article/investigators-say-kentucky-census-worker/766376

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 24) -- Authorities are saying a Kentucky census worker found hanging from a tree with "fed" scrawled on his chest committed suicide and staged his death to look like a homicide....

For months this implanted a very negative thought of eastern Kentucky in my brain. The "fact" a person or persons would do such a harmful thing to another person. I am sure this gave the state of Kentucky a black eye to the nation as it made national headlines.

    A very selfish act...

  9. I had my first sip of this excellent Lager beer last night while celebrating Halloween Festivities at some friends house. From what my buddy told me you cannot buy that beer anywhere near NKY and he bought every case a small convenience store had while on a golf trip in WV last weekend. It is brewed by the oldest brewery in the US and I believe somewere in PA.

Just curious if anyone else out there has had this or can buy it where they live.

My son turned me onto Yuengling during my visits to Annapolis, Md. He likes the the Black and Tan version. I preferred the light.

    Good stuff for sure!

  10. As far as I know, metal cleats have been illegal in football for a good 15 years, regardless of playing surface.

As far as your field drainage goes though, I suppose a mixture of sand and rubber would create a better subgrade...the rubber allows for superior drainage and the sand for a more natural "terra firma" feel to the field. However, in the end, the drainage all comes down to the actual drainage piping that gets installed under that subgrade.

I've built a handful of the new artificial turf fields, and it's the piping that makes all the difference. I'm just finishing up the new soccer stadium at NKU, and they put about $150k into their drainage piping. That field will be bone dry - even in the worst of weather. However, I can think of a field I put in up towards Dayton, OH, and it had virtually no drain piping. The playing surface itself was great, but there have been occasions where the football and soccer teams were literally playing in standing water.

Also, if you guys have 7-8 years of use on the playing surface, I would guess they're probably already making plans to replace it. The manufacturers usually rate the surface for 10 years of "well cared-for usage".

I have not heard anything about the replacement yet... my guess is the school and community are going to get every second of playing time out the surface as possible. I may be mistaken, but I think we are still paying for this surface... I am now starting rumors that the next field will be bluuuuuuuue field turf!

as far as the drainage systems, I will let some of the BGP construction experts comment on that. IMO, the field drains fine for the hardest of rains.

  11. Navy is already in the Texas Bowl and the Texas Bowl is set up to host a Big 12 team in the other slot. The SEC has nine bowl slots, not including the two BCS games. There will be enough bowl-eligible teams in the SEC to fill all of those bowls, therefore none will be available to be selected by the Texas Bowl; ergo, the Cats will not be playing Navy.

Thanks for the detailed explanation! :thumb:

  12. You WOULD enjoy that one.

    I would as well.

That would be my dream match-up! I love the triple option... love NAVY and would like to see Vince Murray from Ryle High School!

Of course I would love to see a UK vs. U Cincinnati match-up in a major BCS game... perhaps next year!

  13. Making it even worse, is the fact that their spotter and behind the scene analyst is from Campbell County High School :D (and folks don't start with the '75 win by the Camels. That still a sore spot almost 35 years later). :madman:

Between the three of them, they probably wouldn't know a good block from a hole in the ground. Just funning with you boys, just funning with you.

Sounds like you should join the crew in the 'bary! But, you wouldn't know a good qb read if you bumped into one. :ohbrother:

  14. I have learned that the game is going to be broadcast over the Internet for the first time by Highlands. Sorry I do not have the link, but it will be live and also available as an archive for those that want to listen to this dynamic duo of broadcasters. Hopefully they will be able to give a good description of the game action since they have both been away from the game for a loooooooooooooooooooong time. :D

Who is the spotter for the duo? IMO, he or she is the most important tool in the shed...
