  1. My son attends Lindsey Wilson College, and he heard on campus last year that Boise State gave LWC a check for not installing a Blue Turf Field, which they had planned to do. The Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders will start their football program this fall for the first time.

They are getting a great D-line coach by the name of Bert Bathiani.

  2. Everyone talks about how good of a person Tebow is, but McCoy gave a very respectable and impressive interview after the game.

Couldn't agrre wtih you more! I such adversity to himself and to the team, he did one heck of a job. Speaks very well of the young man and of his parents.

  3. To the credit of the news reports I saw, not one single report mentioned the fact that he (or the other coaches) are African Americans. I think it does speak well of the state and the fans of all the schools that we have made strides, much more so than many of the other SEC schools.

I don't really care if the coach is purple, green, or chartruise, as long as they Win...GO CATS

:thumb: Just win! and we will all be happy.

  4. I can honestly say, I assume the money is for the rings the players receive. That's my guess.

I would say the admission money and sponsors pay for most everything else.

Thanks Ram! I did not realize they received rings. I now see it discussed about 23 posts prior to this one...

Hopefully, the $250 in years to come can be taken care of by sponsors and gate admissions.

  5. This is like AAU basketball, you pay, you play. It is not because you are chosen, it is because you choose to play.

    Kat:

Per the website, coaches nominate their player(s) and the panel of coaches for the respective squads select the player. I do not see anywhere in the website where a player chooses to play...

Each player must be nominated by their coach. All player profiles are reviewed by a panel of coaches from their home state to field the best possible team.

Northern Kentucky has an East West game in the Spring. Each player keeps their game jersey, there is probably a smackling of scouts watching the game... small admission to get into the game. So, I am still confused why the charge of $250 to participate. I had a son participate in the Kentucky East West game a few years ago and we did not pay a dime for that great experience. Both squads spent several days at WKU for practice and had meals provided.

Can someone take another shot and explain to me what the $250 is for? I am sure that an admission is charged for the fans... so let's not use that as an excuse...

  6. That is Chris Thurman, the defensive back coach. He is scheduled for hip replacement surgery in January. It has been very painful to watch him walk out on the field before the games some five minutes before every other coach so that he had time to limp to the sideline. I can imagine how he feels.

I wish Coach Thurman a very successful surgery.

Whoops... that was coach Thurman. Sorry for error regarding my comments about coach Brown. Coach Thurman looked like he was really struggling to get out on the field Sunday. Good luck and hoping for speedy return back to the field.

  7. Newton played because Hartline got hurt...not at his expense. He played over Fidler because he gave them a better chance to win.

I will disagree with you on that one... I think Fidler won the Auburn game that Newton couldn't finish.

  8. There is a disconnect between Joker Phillips and Steve Brown. Some of it has to do with recruiting.

Joker is really high on David Lockwood who succeeded Chris Thurman as defensive back coach and is now at West Virginia.

If Coach Brooks does retire (I don't think so), I do not see Steve Brown on the Kentucky staff.

The way coach Brown looked at the hotel and at the game Sunday evening... I wouldn't be surprised to see him step down. Looks like he is fighting one heck of a hip problem. I wish him well whatever his decision should be...

  9. So your doctor advises you to take it easy. You say your family is excited to have you home and you have neglected your health. You then have a "spirited practice" and the rest goes out the door?

If, and I seriously doubt this will happen, UC trounces Florida in the Sugar Bowl, will Urb return back to the media and say he is retiring?

  10. I have heard many of these same things. I see Chuck Smith staying at Kentucky.

I still say Coach Brooks will be back.

I hope coach Smith stays as well... he is a great recruiter and a real asset to the team. However, if he is going to make a run as a head coach, the clock is ticking...

Brooks is good for Kentucky and great for the players on the team... let's hope he stays at least one more year and makes some minor coaching changes before handing the reins over to Joker.

  11. I, evidently was watching a different ballgame than were you last night.

Defending some of the UK receivers for dropped footballs, it is very difficult to catch a ball thrown very hard that is wobbling miserably. Morgan Newton throws a very difficult to catch, inaccurate pass.

Morgan Newton completed two passes of over 10 yards. The first was the touchdown pass to Chris Matthews for 17 yards. It was a beautiful throw and an even better catch.

The second was a pass/run of 14 yards by Randall Cobb in the fourth quarter.

To this point in his career, he is a very poor passing quarterback.

I agree with you 100%. Matthews was wide open in the endzone and had to make a circus catch to pull in the TD. I will stand by my opinion, that Fidler should have been given an opportunity to play...

  12. My observations:

    1. Attendance stated 57,897, the stadium holds 68,700. There were not 57,000 people there IMO.

    2. Nashville is a great city.

    3. Did I see where this will no longer be the Music City Bowl in 2010, it will be a Mortgage Company Bowl?

    4. For the 1 millionith time we run the Wildcat, Cobb still doesn't get to hand it off and Clemson recognized that all night long. We have one play out of Wildcat basically, Cobb run right or left.

    5. We throw down field twice. Once was a TD, the other was a bad decision on Newton's part and keyed in on Cobb when there was an obvious TD had he thrown it to Matthew's I believe. Wide Open. Yet we throw 2-3 yard routes all night when we need 7-8 yards.

    6. Terrible game management by coaches, not sure who is responsible but I understand burning a TO to get a punt into the wind but, bottom line that whole series was a WASH.

    7. I was 15 rows from the field on the 50 and felt like there was no atmosphere there.

    8. Brooks, please stay. Pretty please.9. Surprised Seiber hit his FG's. That is a positive.

    10. Are our QB's taught not to run the ball when there is nothing but green in front of them? So many times when we attempt a pass on 2nd down Newton throws incomplete when there was at least 6-7 yards to gain on a rush.

    11. All of Clemson's players look lean and tall, and fast.

    12. Over-rated = Lindley

    13. Moncell Allen = Under-rated.

    I agree 100%!

Nashville is a great city! Our family had a blast the three days we were there. Gaylord Hotels is dropping sponsorship for some sort of bank? Lindley and a few other DBs are over-rated. Soft tackling, missed assignments...

I am a huge Brooks fan... but I still think that Fidler is the man! I would have gone with the senior leadership at QB once Newton struggled with the short, medium and long passing attempts.

It was cold, windy and just plain frigid in Nashville last night... that may have sapped the enthusiasm a tad.

  13. I was at the game last evening in Nashville. I did not see any player that is worthy of leaving early for NFL play! Including Locke.

I am a fan of the team... but come on. There are plenty of RBs out in the colligiate ranks that are above Locke's level of play right now. His interests would be better served to come back next year... stronger, faster and showing a little more team leadership.

  14.

Not according to the Bowl website. I think this Bowl is morphing into the State of Ky vs the State of Tenn all star game. Take a look at it. Now the reality may be different than what the web site states. I guess we'll know the answer to that question when the rosters are released if the players on the team come only from eastern Ky.

LN, I got this from the website...

The Border Bowl is a non-profit organization established to promote high school football in Kentucky and Tennessee. The objective is to provide an All-Star game featuring the top players in Eastern Kentucky and Eastern Tennessee. High schools eligible to nominate players for this game are geographically located along the I-75 corridor from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Covington, Kentucky and east. This game allows players to have the opportunity to play, practice, and battle it out for the rights to the border. It also allows high school seniors an opportunity to gain additional exposure and, perhaps, earn a scholarship for college. Each player must be nominated by their coach. All player profiles are reviewed by a panel of coaches from their home state to field the best possible team.

We once had the Kentucky vs. Tenn All-Star and unfortunately, it went by the way-side a couple of years ago. Sounds like this is E Ky vs. E Tenn. to me... so schools east of Covington, Kentucky are eligible. Now is Holy Cross east of Covington? :idunno:
