They only only won by 6, that doesn't seem head and shoulders above their district opponents ( I know point differential doesn't always matter.) I wasn't at the game but it seems like it was pretty close
The game was very close. WH got up by 14 and Woodofrd cut it to 4 in the closing minutes. Western Hills will have to work extremely hard to comptete in this district. Franklin Co. has good shooting (Meyer and Hall) and a 6'7 transfer from Lexington Catholic (Donovan), a fast point guard (Hicks) and some very good players to compliment them as well as a deep bench. Woodford has everyone back and a 6'6 transfer from Indiana. Frankfort is really fast and has a ton of heart and as soon as they get some practice time (after football) they will be tough.
-
I hope they do, but I think if you ask most people they have Franklin County as their pick. Western Hills lost a cllose one to Anderson Co. last night and in overtime to shelby last week. Franklin Co. is still undefeated. But I think we will all agree this will be a very competitive district.
-
I picked Western Hills as the favorite in the district this season. They heads and shoulders better than their district opponents.
You might be sandbagging a little.
Franklin Co. is extremely talented this year and haven't been beaten yet. Woodford also to WH to the wire last night.

This hasn't always been the case. When Coach Strong was here Freshman played only on the Freshman team...didn't matter how good you were ( Wes Burtner) You played varsity when you were Juniors. When Coach Humphry came in...he started a Freshman his first year here....Preston Knolwes. Last year he started a 8th grader, Robbie Stenzel. He believes if you are good enough...you will play. I like his approach.....watch out for this Freshman team in the years to come.:thumb:
Although they always played freshman ball sometimes they did play JV and varsity with Coach Strong. Jerome Embry almost always dressed for varsity games as a freshman in 89-90.
-
When does Mercer Co. scrimmage?
-
If Lafayette doesn't get the Super-Staph infections as reported on the news this morning straightened out they may not get to play this one.
-
North Hardin and John Hardin are seperate schools. Both are part of the same schools system though (Hardin County Schools).
-
I would be all for Scott Co. staying but I would like to see the Frankfort area schools move over to the 8th. It is way too far to play Richmond and Lexington schools when they are surrounded by 8th region schools. It seems more like the KHSAA leaves them in the 11th more out of comfort than necessity.
-
It make sense to move Western Hills, Frankfort, and Franklin Co. to the 8th (which means Simon Kenton would go to the 9th) and move GRC, Bourbon, and Montgomery to the 11th. Then they would have to drive to Maysville for the region every year or every couple of years if MC gets to host.
-
Players really suffer in situations like this. How well do they matchup against Western Hills tonight?
-
Western Hills has lost talent over the year. I'm not even quite sure who their main player is along with their go to guy. Does Darius Reed still play or did he graduate?
Darius is a Junior this year, but has played varsity since 9th grade.
-
The Flyers should be strong with Myer and Hall shooting the three and Hicks attacking the rim. They also ahd a tremendous freshman team last year. They got a very nice transfer in the post with Andy Donovan coming over from Lex Catholic.
-
Sorry! Don't know why I was thinking 11th??? Also, I forgot about Madison Central (although this is not about the 11th).
Easy mistake to make Western Hills, Frankfort, and Franklin Co. are right next door and they are all stuck in the 11th.
Anderson has a good young post player in the Russell kid and some younger guards who are decent shooters. Drury's teams always play good defense so if they develop some ball handling I think they could make some noise in the 8th.
-
I saw Shelby Valley in Frankfort at the BGC and they looked good. They pass the ball really well and communicate on defense which makes up for their lack of size. I was impressed with how well they handle pressure and knock down shots in transition. I haven't seen the other two teams this summer.
-
Lexington Catholic, Madison Central and Henry Clay all looked very good as well. Looks like the 11th will stacked with talent again this year.

Cuba, Brewer, Carr Creek, Edmonson County, Simon Kenton....all good stories.
I agree. The Cuba Cubs. If you haven't read the book "When Cuba Conquered Kentucky" you should. It is a great book.
-
Then if Travis wants the same kind of treatment, he needs to come back to Kentucky and run for office or apply for a cushy bank job...
We should also be reminded that Travis "stiffed" EKU after they spent a lot of money building him an office and trying to get him to stay at EKU. EKU tried to hold him to the contract but was unable to. If loyalty is an issue he (Ford)hasn't shown much of it in the past.
-
Gene Kirk should be at the top of the list.
I agree.

I am not sure which coaches were given that choice. I am just getting this info second hand. Hopefully someone else out there can fill us in.
