It was poor math on my part. Dropped the ball there. Sentiment still remains though, they play each other a lot.

We Meet Again

For the ninth time in six-years, the Warriors and Maroons will face off in the playoffs. Since Coach Jason Foley arrived at Southwestern, he boasts a 7-1 record against the cross-town rival, with the lone loss being at home in the 2020 regular season. On its face, the Maroons' season has been lackluster as they hold a 4-7 record. However, when looking deeper, it is clear that the Maroons have had an above average strength of schedule and seem to be peaking at the right time. 

Previous Meeting

Just three weeks ago, these two teams played in a slugfest that resulted in a 12-point victory for Southwestern. The game was close the entirety of the way, with the Warriors only pulling ahead by two touchdowns in the final two minutes. It was clear from that meeting that these two teams know each other inside and out— so another tight game is expected. 

What to Watch For

As was the case in the last meeting, Southwestern will likely be starting a backup quarterback in Owen Campbell. In four games as a starter, he is 36/50 with 595 yards, 8 TDs and 1 pick. It is safe to say that the backup has been more than good enough to win games, if not make Southwestern's office more powerful. 

On the other side, Pulaski will be starting Zak Anderson at quarterback who has been very good all season. In 11 games, he's thrown for over 2,000 yards with 22 TDs and 9 picks. In the last meeting, Anderson has 157 yards on 11/17 throwing with 1 TD and 1 pick. Can SW stifle the PC attack again, or will the air attack of the Maroons' be formidable as we have seen in previous days? 

Who Wins? 

Can Southwestern exert the same dominance they have of late; or can Pulaski County prove the mantra, "its hard to beat a good team twice"?

On one hand, I absolutely agree with this.

But there’s a little piece of my brain that thinks that the Jags possess the ability to play well enough defensively to make some weird stuff happen. I also have no doubt, should we see this matchup, that NL will be snapping the ball with 1 second left on the play clock every play. They will try to make it a slow, sloppy, boring, slugfest. 

Dixie is a solid team, but don’t let last week fool you.

I know Woodford was ranked all year but every decent team the Jackets played beat them by two-or-more scores. Great teams rarely get thirty pieced 3 times in a season.

Initially this screamed “trap game” for Bullitt East. However, now that a considerable amount of prognosticators are picking the Camels, it has untrapped the trap game. 
 

We are back to a regular game imo. 

Sideline to helmet communication is not coming within the next decade. The KHSAA just figured out play clocks like 5 years ago. 
 

Hudl Sideline is also less than a grand; which in my opinion is surprisingly doable for a lot of programs. However, I know many programs that don’t like sideline replays. Many kids play both ways for smaller schools, so yanking a kid off the field to show where he missed something 10 plays previously isn’t always the most beneficial thing in the world. 
 

I personally know of two programs that had Hudl Sideline in one season, then removed it the next because they thought it was a distraction and they did not like all the cumbersome aspects of it.

The West Jessamine Colts host the Pulaski County Maroons in the first round of the playoffs. Although Pulaski is 3-7, their schedule has been very, very difficult. West Jess boasts a 6-4 record that led them to a number two seed. 

Worth mentioning that this game has been moved to Thursday.

I feel like that is very bizarre considering that both teams probably see this game as a close one, and would like as much time as possible to prepare.

They've got a tough path to Kroger. I'd love to see them make that run, but it's a reach.

If they do make that run by some combination of getting hot and seeding; I would expect to see all 1,600 citizens of Munfordville to be in the stands.

Pulaski County at West Jessamine

Won’t be a good game, but will certainly be a seed upset. 

I’m starting to buy St. X as the best team in 6A.

I’ll go with them by a touchdown. 

The last time TC played Green County on the Dragons’ senior night it was 2017.

TC came in with a 7-2 record and a share of a 4A district title. Green was last in their district with a 3-5 record. All signs pointed to the Cardinals getting a running clock on their way to a victory. The Dragons had other plans though.

In the most miserably cold, sleet, slush, and snow weather that you could imagine; the Dragons exclusively ran a jumbo wildcat set and scored 30 points on their way to a two point win. Andrew Mosby toted the rock a whopping 34 times for 180 yards in his last game at home. 

I know some coaches from that TC team that still talk about how brutal that loss was.

Run a lot of Flexbone/Wing T stuff and some spread/gun.

IMO they look the best out of the spread and it has puzzled me to why it’s not their primary gameplan/set. I have heard they are leaning more towards the more “modern” offense of late, but I’m not sure if the facts reflect that.

LCA gets punished for their district games being so poor. Right now they have two 0-9 teams on their schedule. That destroys Eagles’ RPI. In my opinion, the best way to fix RPI quickly would be not counting district games (required opponents).

It would reward teams for playing a tough schedule and not punish them for playing a 1-9/0-10 district team (something that they can’t help).

I don’t think there’s been a year in the history of the KHSAA where Hart County was better than Raceland or Pikeville. This season is no exception.
