  1. Kaleb Cole suffered a series of injuries during his junior year and missed significant time.   Still was a major contributor especially during the playoffs.  He has played varsity since his freshman year. Very physical with a high-speed motor and hits like a freight train.   Look for him to have a big season as a leader for the Breds.  Breds bring back an experienced offensive line and depth at receiver.  Keys to the defense are in place.  Look for some of the younger players to step up and contribute right away.  Strength of schedule will help with the RPI and hopefully get a home game for the payoffs.

  2. Very physical game.  I don't think Campbellsville knew how to handle Newport Catholic's physical nature of NCC's running game.  Welch and Cole punished people.  Campbellsville made some nice adjustments at half. Both teams committed critical penalties. NCC had a TD called back on a penalty and a miscue on a punt created a turnover inside the five which led to a Campbellsville TD.  Campbellsville certainly had their share of penalties and errors. It was a great game to watch.  Both teams deserved to win.  Both teams left it all on the field. Good luck to Campbellsville next week.  I have a feeling they may need it.

  3.  Kaleb Cole, RB/MLB was the compliment to help Welch.  Thunder and Lighting is what I have named them. Totally different styles.  Touches were about the same in the first four games.  NCC will need to find a replacement for Cole after his injury in the Campbell Game.  He is a big contributor on both offense and led the team in tackles on defense. Return unknown at this point.  Injuries and inexperience have shown.   Good luck to the Breds at Raceland.

  4. I have no problem with cheerleaders and school band during a game. That adds to the high school experience.  I have no problem with an announcer acknowledging a first down, touchdown or a big play within reason.  I do take exception to an adult announcer blaring music while the visiting team is trying to call a snap count and the players can't hear.  The visiting team lost to the better team that night. It was so unusual Friday night I thought it deserved a conversation.

It sounds like those of you at Male games have your hands full. It seems like as long as the announcer is not on the school board the administration should be able to deal with it.  Doesn't reflect well on the school.

  6. Has anyone experienced a home team announcer play blaring music up until the visiting team offense snaps the ball.  I was always of the opinion they would be subject to an Un sportsman like penalty. Fans were going nuts trying to get them to stop doing that. The visiting team got beat by the better team that night, but it seemed like a cheap tactic.

  7. Congratulations to LLoyd on a nice win.  They dominated the offense and defensive line the entire game. Lloyd had great team speed and confused NCC at times.   NCC needs to go back and regroup to try to find some answers.  They certainly left the crowd scratching their heads. Their upcoming games will continue to test NCC.  Hopefully they can get things on track quickly. Good luck to both teams going forward.

  8. As far as NCC is concerned I expect Kaleb Cole to be a major contributor.  He saw a lot of varsity action as a freshman.  Started every game as a sophomore.  Plays both sides of the ball as a running back and linebacker.  I see Smith, Welch and Cole as a three headed monster.   The line and receivers will be young and will develop as the season goes on.

Does anyone have confidence that Bellevue will be able to field a team this year in !-A?  With them cancelling their season last year it left team scrambling to fill their schedule.  It also had an effect on the RPI of the competing teams.  If there are doubts if they can field a team, it may be better withdraw from the district play a schedule games that allows them to rebuild their program.

  10. Player Reclassification.

As another football year comes to a close, I still look at players that reclassified due to Covid.  I think there should be some type of class that identifies theses players.  Something like an (R) associated with their school year.  Like R-Sophomore, R-Junior and R- Senior.  Knowing this went down into middle school in some districts we will be dealing with this issue for the coming years.  It is misleading to see teams show players in a certain grade when in reality they are a year older than others in the class.  I know not all schools allowed the reclassification.  There is a big difference in a 15-year-old sophomore and a 16-year-old sophomore and so on up the ladder.  The media makes some reclassified players out to be super athletes when in reality they are a year older and more mature. Just food for thought.  Any comments.

  11. Congratulations to Beechwood.  You are a well-coached team.  NCC defense played well in the first half. Turnovers put the defense in bad field position in the second half.  NCC offense never really got rolling. Overall, I thought NCC defense played pretty well.  Runyon was the best player on the field tonight. Two kickoffs returned for TD's.  Unfortunately, one was called back for a penalty.  Beechwood kept pounding the ball. I wasn't overly impressed with Beechwoods passing game.  NCC did not appear to make any adjustments on offense or defense during the game.  Hard to stop a team like Beechwood with NCC running a three-man front on defense.  NCC had to many turnovers to stay close to a team like Beechwood.   That being said, I think both teams will make a deep run in the playoffs. I am sure NCC will get things on track next week and the following weeks.  They have the talent.  They just need throw a couple of wrinkles on offense with some personnel to change things up.
