I'll agree with potentially BG and CCH but totally disagree on Dixie and Ryle.  Highlands beat Ryle last year and Highlands will be better this coming year.

These kids are hungry and soaking up every bit of what this new coach is feeding them.

The youth program is already built.  The only thing that I saw missing is just the messaging from the top all the way down to the youth program.  I totally disagree with your wording in that the youth program needs to be built back up.

I keep reading your statement and just SMH.....

One of Birds biggest weakness (young and inexperience this past year) will pay big dividends this coming Fall and Fall 2022.....

    GO BIRDS!!!

Wording maybe off but the youth program is not competitive.  Playing each other over and over again is not competitive.  Plus kids that get mad at NKYFL go there to get away from there programs they are slated to play for.  Now if the retention was high on those kids then that helps some but we know that’s not the case.

The high school can be on an up swing but it will take time.  Programs are built from the base just like a house.  If foundation is weak it shows in the ceiling first.  I believe Repair work is in place but some are already painting a cracked foundation.

Dixie will be good this coming year.  Ryle will be good.  Those are not walk pass over games.  BG has a ton of returning starters from last year.  Covcath is loaded with a question mark at the QB spot.  Holtz was behind a  3 year starter.  Anyone that follows BGP knows Agee should have been the 3 year starter at Campbell. The sophomore qb will be coached by Eddie.  Any of them will be ready to fill that void come August 1. Find another weakness.  Plus if the basketball player plays at 6’6 TE with Jones and Wilson.  CCH vs HHS may look the same as last year. Or maybe not.

  2. 6-4.  Loses to BG,CCH,Dixie,Ryle.  New coach has been here for 30 days and some of you are picking out rings.  Highlands will get back to full competitive seasons but give the coach time to address his weaknesses.  Also he needs to build the youth program back up.  To date it’s struggling to keep kids and it’s not competitive yet.   I hope for NKY sake the program gets back to the early days but just not yet.

I guess I wouldn’t have had as much of an issue if he would have thanked Highlands and or apologized for wasting Highlands’ time. In his message he seemed oblivious to stepping on toes in the way he went about it.

Does this happen often? A new coach having a press conference and then backing out?

Did happen at Brossart right before Wiggins was given the job.

What is in the pipeline from the 7th and 8th grade levels?  I understand the 7th grade won their league but  I have heard nothing about the 8th grade.  How did they do and what are some names to be watching for?

    Jackson Reardon played QB 8th

    Caleb Cole played MLB/FB

    Mason Dietz played G/DT

    Dillion Ryan played TB/LB

From what I heard they struggled but was a month behind GCL in starting season

  5. I was way more impressed with BG defense than the offense.  I feel as if Covcath beat themselves very bad However,  BG wanted it way more and you could tell on the second INT where #14 caught the ball and the BG defender just took it like it was free.  I know it’s early but next weeks game could be interesting.  Good Luck Purples.  Congratulations on making it to state.

    Bowling Green Averages:

    Offensive Line - 282.4 LB  6'1"

    Defensive Line - 249.3 LB 6' 3"

South Warren Averages (Only using what Maxpreps provided)

    Offensive Line - 253.3 LB 6'2"

Defensive Line - No stats on Maxpreps, but I'd say similar size to BG, give or take

    Edit: Cov Cath was posted.

From those comparisons the battle looks to be somewhat even.  Matchups seems even at least.

Jacob is our overall top rusher for the season, yes, but he has only been the leading rusher in 3 games this season. I would agree that I'd like to see less reliance on the draw play, but I guess, hey, whatever gets the job done.

Nally is the only running back we had return this year with meaningful playing time on the varsity level, and he's been slowed by an injury the last few weeks. Reid Hummel is a junior, and is a speedster when he has room to get a head of steam, but he needs to work in being shifty and elusive. Brayden Collins is also a junior, and is a nice running back...he goes hard and runs hard. Our offensive line is where we've struggled as much or more than we have at running back. In addition to several new players starting (I believe Luke Stegman had basically played exclusively at linebacker until he was tapped as a starting O-lineman this year as well), there has been some shuffling due to injuries.

Geisler is a nice and fast running back, and shifty too, but I think he still needs time to learn the playbook as a mid-season freshman transfer, in addition to being the size of a freshman. And I can only speak from what I've seen on film, but Mason, to me, looks more built like a wide receiver and defensive back, and we desperately need those right now because of injuries.

I think your mostly correct. The offensive line has been the only constant all year.  Line play seems pretty solid as it shows with the run game.  What’s in question is the pass game.  Eddie’s offense is designed to throw the ball and he is the best at having a balanced offense.  When your QB runs for almost as many yards in passing that’s what needs tightened up.  QB needs to feel confident the WR’s are running routes and catching balls.  Will be tough to win state without a balanced offensive and putting up receiving yards. If anyone can fix it over night it will be that staff.

Cov Cath should do a free broadcast this week. $15 is way way too much. It would be a classy thing to do. At least make it the cost of admission to a game ($5-$8). $15 to watch a high school broadcast is about as tacky as it gets. Why not make it $80! We got grandma right where we want her.

Not sure why the cost matters.  Highlands travels to Park Hills in charter buses.  Like the drive is an hour away.  What’s 15 bucks when you spend $800 on a 15 minute bus ride?
