I don't see Cov Cath losing a game to in-state competition this year. They might drop the game against Oak Hill, maybe Beckley (admittedly don't know anything about them), and then that Florida tournament they go to is always a toss-up. But this Colonel team...is legit.

How long is Disken out? That could really hurt their chances of going undefeated.

You're probably right. In the grand scheme of things, once you get past the top 4 or 5 players, is #7 a whole lot better then #13? If I did the top 20 players, #14 is probably almost exactly as good as #15.

You’re off base. I love the Cooper program!! Year in, year out to be of the best in the region. This year just looks different, they will have a much tougher time than in the last few seasons. Keep supporting your squad, bud. And I’ll keep being a realist.

Very possible. Last year I had Highlands at #10 in the preseason and they cracked the top five a couple Of times. Every week, new rankings are released on Sunday or Monday.

I think the team rankings are very realistic. Now the top ten players I question. Lol

Also keep in mind that I am employed by Bluegrasspreps.com for this job, but it is just my opinion based on what only I see or know. Grant Disken, for example, is #2 on the list but if he sat next to me at Starbucks I wouldn't recognize him w/o his uniform. I've only watched Cov-Cath about eight times over the last two years. I go by stats, other news outlets, and the comments of what other BGP members, whom I respect, say.

 

I try to see every team play throughout the year. Every Sunday or Monday morning I write an article on team rankings with various notes and details from the previous week. At the end of the year, I do a big district and regional preview with a list of players.

 

Keep in mind that with such a passionate fan base that we have in the 9th region, you could pick your own Top Ten, and several people would wonder why a certain player was not included.

Thank you for the post. Just wondering how you came up with top ten? Did you just look up the top ten returning scorers from last year in the region and put them as your top ten?

Not sure I know who they are.
