5th Region Week 4 Review
1. John Hardin (10-0): Frontrunner John Hardin remained in the win column during the first two rounds of the Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament, notching back-to-back wins over Broome (S.C.) and host Corbin. Through 10 games, undefeated John Hardin is averaging 82.3 points per game. 2. Elizabethtown (7-0): The 5th Region's only other undefeated team, Elizabethtown prevailed in the Campbellsvile High School Holiday Classic, claiming wins over East Jessamine, DuPont Manual and Pleasure Ridge Park. Jaquais Franklin is averaging a team-high 17.6 points per game for the Panthers. 3. Marion County (7-3): Splitting games, Marion County suffered a four-point loss to Aiken (Ohio) before bouncing back to edge Boyle County 73-72. Ten games into the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season, Jamison Epps is averaging a double-double of 17.6 points and 13.9 rebounds per game for the Knights. 4. Bardstown (6-6): The Tigers knocked off Cooper before falling to Frederick Douglas and Simon Kenton in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic High School. JJ Traynor and JaRel Montgomery continue to combine to lead the Tigers. Through Bardstown's first 10 games, Traynor and Montgomery were averaging 17 points apiece. 5. LaRue County (7-4): The Hawks rolled past Washington County before dropping back-to-back games in the Sunshine Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla.. Mark Goode averaged a team-high 25.6 points through LaRue County's first nine games. 6. Campbellsville (4-6): The Eagles compiled a 1-2 record in the Campbellsville High School Holiday Classic, edging Lyon County 64-63 before absorbing back-to-back losses to Louisville opponents Pleasure Ridge Park and DuPont Manual. Malachi Corley is averaging 15.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game for Campbellsville, a former region frontrunner. 7. Taylor County (5-9): Following two straight losses to DuPont Manual and East Jessamine in the Campbellsville High School Holiday Tournament, Taylor County notched a 20-point win to salvage its appearance in the event. Nick Knifley is averaging a team-high 16.5 points per game for the Cardinals. 8. North Hardin (3-8): The Trojans continued to slide, dropping back-to-back games to host Bowling Green and Glasgow in the Purples Holiday Classic. Naasir Johnson remains the leading scorer for North Hardin, which put together a three-game win streak earlier in the month. 9. Central Hardin (3-6): Splitting games in the King of the Smokies in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., Central Hardin beat Cumberland County (Tenn.) before falling to Bearden. George Gavin is the only Bruin averaging double figures in scoring thus far in the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season. 10. Adair County (5-6): The Indians notched wins over host Williamstown and McCreary Central before falling to Breathitt County in a holiday event. Lucas Pooler is averaging 14.6 points per game for the Indians. 11. Nelson County (8-6): The Cardinals won two consecutive games in the Nelson County Classic, defeating Frankfort and Bullitt Central. Nelson County lost to Anderson County in the final round of its holiday event. Leading Nelson county, Bryce Riley is averaging 19 points per game for the Cardinals. 12. Thomas Nelson (5-5): The Generals dropped to 5-5 after falling to Letcher County Central. Through 10 games, Thomas Nelson boasts wins over Burgin, Washington County, Green County, Metcalfe County and Edmonson County. 13. Bethlehem (4-5): Moving one game closer to .500, Bethlehem beat Letcher County Central, a former 14th Region title contender, 66-60. Kruse Harned leads Bethlehem with a 15.1 points per game scoring average. 14. Hart County (4-5): Showing some improvement, Hart County won two of three games in the Roy's Bar-B-Que/1st Southern National Bank Classic, beating Beth Haven and Green County. Jordan Burden is averaging a team-high 18.4 points per game for the Raiders. 15. Caverna (2-9): The Colonels' losing skid continued with losses to Cumberland County, Hancock County and McLean County. Caverna lost games to host Hancock County and McLean County in the Hancock County Classic. 16. Green County (2-9): The Dragons won one of three games in the Roy's Bar-B-Que/1st Southern National Bank Classic, defeating Cumberland County before falling to East Robertson (Tenn.) and Hart County. 17. Washington County (1-10): The Commanders dropped four games over six days, losing to LaRue County, Pleasure Ridge Park, Lyon County and Taylor County. Washington County finished 0-3 in the Campbellsville High School Holiday Classic. 18. Fort Knox (1-5): The Eagles haven't played since defeating the Louisville Tigers, a home school team, 68-52 on December 17.

5th Region Week 3 Review
1. John Hardin (8-0): The Bulldogs continued to roll in Week 3, notching wins over Central Hardin, North Hardin and Paul Laurence Dunbar. Alex Matthews is averaging a team-high double-double of 23.5 points and 11.1 rebounds per game for the John Hardin boys' basketball team. 2. Elizabethtown (4-0): The Panthers rolled past Grayson County to remain undefeated in the young 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season. Jaquais Franklin, Kam Sherrard and Kha Sherrard are each averaging double figures in scoring for the Panthers. 3. Marion County (6-2): After defeating Taylor County, Marion County split a pair of games in the Rowan County-hosted Kentucky Bank Challenge. The Knights suffered a three-point loss to Lincoln County before beating Montgomery County via the same margin. Jamison Epps is averaging 16.2 points per game for the Knights. 4. Bardstown (5-4): The Tigers finished 1-2 in the King of the Bluegrass, notching a win over Martin County in between losses to North Oldham and South Oldham. JaRel Montgomery and JJ Traynor are combining to lead the Tigers. 5. LaRue County (6-2): The Hawks opened the season 5-0 but dropped back-to-back games to McCracken County and South Oldham before beating Martin County. Mark Goode is averaging 26 points per game for LaRue County, which finished 1-2 in the King of the Bluegrass at Fairdale High School. 6. Campbellsville (3-4): Following a 3-0 start, Campbellsville stumbled in Week 3, dropping games to Adair County, Middlesboro, Pulaski County and Harvest Prep (Ohio). Malachi Corley is averaging a team-high 18.7 points per game for the Eagles. 7. North Hardin (3-6): After opening the season 3-3, North Hardin has suffered a trio of losses to Bullitt Central, John Hardin and Greenwood. North Hardin absorbed a three-point loss to Greenwood in the South Warren Shootout. Proven playmaker Naasir Johnson continues to lead North Hardin in scoring. 8. Taylor County (4-7): The Cardinals finished 1-3 in the Clinton County-hosted Twin Lakes Classic. Taylor County topped Hopkins County Central but dropped games to Logan County, host Clinton County and Eastern. Nick Knifley and Kybrin Smith are combining to lead Taylor County in scoring. 9. Central Hardin (2-5): The Bruins upended host Hart County 55-49 to halt a five-game losing skid. George Gavin scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds in Central Hardin's victory over Hart County. 10. Adair County (3-5): The Indians defeated Campbellsville 8-52 to halt a three-game losing skid. Through eight games for Adair County, Lucas Pooler and Connor Loy are combining to average 25.9 points. 11. Nelson County (6-5): The Cardinals defeated Daviess County but dropped games to Hopkinsville and host Webster County in the Fuller Physical Therapy Holiday Classic. Bryce Riley is pacing Nelson County, averaging over 18 points per game. 12. Thomas Nelson (5-4): The General posted three straight wins in Week 3, defeating Green County, Metcalfe County and host Edmonson County in the Rafferty's/Doubledogs Caveland Classic. Torian Keene, Andrew Hogan and Braden Smith are combining to lead Thomas Nelson in the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season. 13. Bethlehem (3-5): The Eagles suffered back-to-back losses to Iroquois and Anderson County following a win over Caverna. Laine Peake and Kruse Harned are combining to average around 30 points per game for the Eagles. 14. Washington County (1-6): Following a setback to Nelson County, Washington County remained in the loss column. Currently, Josh Burkhead is leading Washington County with a 16.2 points per game scoring average. 15. Hart County (2-4): After opening the season 2-2, Hart County dropped games to Central Hardin and Carlisle County. Through the Raiders' first five games, Jordan Burden averaged 18 points per outing. 16. Caverna (2-6): The Colonels dropped four consecutive games in Week 3, falling to Bethlehem, Barren County, Ohio County and Warren East. Caverna entered the week set to wrap up a stint in the Warren East Holiday Hoops Classic. 17. Green County (1-7): Determined Green County edged Edmonson County 74-73 in the Rafferty's/Double Dogs Caveland Classic to notch its first win of the season. Through eight games, Gunner Bush and Braden Sluder are averaging 14 points apiece for the Dragons. 18. Fort Knox (1-5): After opening the season 0-5, Fort Knox defeated the Louisville Tigers (home school team) 68-52 for its first win. Jonah Butts scored 20 points to lead Fort Knox to the victory over the Louisville home school squad.

5th Region Week 2 Review
1. John Hardin (5-0): Frontrunner John Hardin continued to excel in the second week of the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season, defeating Fort Knox and former 3rd Region force Owensboro Catholic. Through five games, Alex Matthews is averaging a double-double of 22.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs. John Hardin rolled past Owensboro Catholic 81-50 in the River City Roundup at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Saturday, Dec. 14. 2. Bardstown (4-2): After opening the 2019-20 season 1-2, Bardstown reeled off three straight weeks in the second week of the season, beating Washington County, Trinity (Louisville) and North Bullitt. JaRel Montgomery is averaging a team-high 18.7 points per game while teammate JJ Traynor is delivering a double-double (17.0 ppg, 11.0 rpg) for the Tigers. 3. Marion County (3-1): The Knights notched back-to-back wins in Week 2, knocking off Central Hardin and Adair County. Through four games, Marion County standout Jamison Epps is averaging 19.8 points and 17.8 rebounds per game. 4. Elizabethtown (3-0): The Panthers posted two more wins in the second week of the season, beating Nelson County and Central Hardin. Four different players are averaging 10-plus points per game for Elizabethtown thus far. 5. LaRue County (5-0): The Hawks continued to soar in the second week of the season, defeating Caverna and Hart County. Through five games, Mark Goode is averaging a team-high 28.2 points per game for offensive-heavy LaRue County. 6. Campbellsville (3-0): In an early-season 20th District boys' basketball battle, Campbellsville outlasted rival Taylor County 79-76 on Friday, Dec. 13. The win allowed Campbellsville to move to 3-0. Malachi Corley is averaging 21.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game for the Anthony Epps-coached Eagles. 7. North Hardin (3-3): The Trojans showed much improvement in Week 2, reeling off wins over Warren East Fort Knox and Taylor County. North Hardin dominated in a matchup versus Taylor County on Saturday, Dec. 14, pulling away to win 80-52. 8. Taylor County (3-3): The Cardinals suffered back-to-back losses in Week 2, falling to rival Campbellsvile and North Hardin. Taylor County is on a two-game losing skid after putting together a three-game winning streak. 9. Central Hardin (1-4): The Bruins faced a tough road in Week 2, dropping games to Marion County and Elizabethtown. Following Central Hardin's challenging five-game stretch, Gavin George is averaging double figures in scoring for the Bruins. 10. Adair County (2-5): The Indians slid in Week 2, dropping games to Allen County-Scottsville Marion County and Whitefield Academy. Lucas Pooler and Connor Loy are combining to average 25.4 points per game for Adair County early in the 2019-20 season. 11. Nelson County (4-3): Faring better in the second week of the 2019-20 season, Nelson County won three of four games. The Cardinals notched wins over Grayson County, Bethlehem and Model while dropping a game to Elizabethtown. 12. Bethlehem (2-3): Week 2 ended in a split for the Eagles. Bethlehem beat Thomas Nelson before falling to Nelson County. Through five games, Lain Peake (15.6 ppg) and Kruse Harned (14.6 ppg) are pacing Bethlehem. 13. Thomas Nelson (2-4): The Generals lost two of three games in the second week of the season, falling to Bethlehem and Southwestern. In between the two losses, Thomas Nelson topped Washington County. Andrew Hogan and Torrian Keene rank as the Generals' top two scorers. 14. Washington County (1-5): The Commanders are on a five-game losing skid following losses to Bardstown and Thomas Nelson in the second week of the season. Washington County is sliding after knocking off Adair County in a season opener. 15. Hart County (2-2): The Raiders are still at the .500 mark after defeating Green County then falling to LaRue County. Jordan Burden (18.8 ppg) and Trevor Blair (18.0 ppg) are combining to lead the Raiders. 16. Caverna (2-2): Remaining even in Week 2, Caverna split a pair of games. The Colonels beat Green County after losing to LaRue County 17. Green County (0-4): The Dragons dropped games to Hart County and Caverna in Week 2. Currently, Gunner Bush is leading Green County in scoring (14.2 ppg) and rebounding (9.2 ppg). 18. Fort Knox (0-5): Remaining in the loss column, Fort Knox dropped back-to-back games to John Hardin and North Hardin during Week 2. Following a loss to North Hardin, Fort Knox fell to 0-5.

1. John Hardin (3-0): Preseason 5th Region favorite John Hardin opened the season 3-0, notching wins over Bryan Station, University Heights and Christian County. Through three games, Alex Matthews (24.7 ppg, 10.3 rpg) is averaging a double-double for the Bulldogs. His teammate, Trevon Harris (21.0 ppg, 9.3 rpg), is nearly averaging a double-double. 2. Bardstown (1-2): The Tigers managed to knock off Marion County 57-51 in a season opener but dropped back-to-back games to Scott County and Bowling Green. Scott County pulled away to beat Bardstown 57-49. Bowling Green won more comfortably over the Tigers, prevailing 63-46 on a neutral court at Muhlenberg County. 3. Marion County (1-1): The Knights split a pair of games in the first week of the season. Marion County dropped a six-point decision to Bardstown before pulling away to defeat Washington County 79-52. 4. Elizabethtown (1-0): The Panthers rolled in their lone game during the opening week of the season, leveling Washington County 98-31 in the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame Classic at Central Hardin. Five different Elizabethtown players reached double figures in scoring as the Panthers pummeled Washington County. 5. Central Hardin (1-2): The Bruins are 1-2 following back-to-back losses. Central Hardin notched a win over Nelson County before suffering two straight losses to South Oldham and North Bullitt. South Oldham beat the Bruins 85-47. In another game played as part of the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame Classic, North Bullitt beat Central Hardin 78-64. 6. LaRue County (2-0): The Hawks started out strong in the opening week of the season, claiming back-to-back wins over Breckinridge County and Allen County-Scottsville. LaRue County beat Breckinridge County 80-65 in its season opener. Then, remaining in the win column later in the week, LaRue County edged Allen County-Scottsville 78-76. 7. Campbellsville (2-0): First-year head coach Anthony Epps has Campbellsville winning early. The Eagles posted wins over Cumberland County and Glasgow (overtime) during the first week of the season. Through three games, Malachi Corley is averaging 20 points per game for the Eagles. Along with Corley, Arren Hash (18.5 ppg) and Kameron Smith (14.0 ppg) are averaging double figures in scoring for the Campbellsville boys' basketball team. 8. Taylor County (3-1): The Cardinals dropped a season opener to Bullitt Central in overtime but bounced back to beat Washington County, Fort Knox and Casey County in three consecutive games. Kybrin Smith and Nick Knifley combined to average over 40 points per game for Taylor County over the three wins. 9. Adair County (2-2): The Indians compiled a 2-2 record in the first week of the season. After dropping a game to Washington County, Adair County defeated Cumberland County and Green County. Russellville edged Adair County 56-54 over the weekend to send the Indians back into the loss column. 10. Nelson County (1-2): The Cardinals compiled a 1-2 record during the first week of the season. In between losses to Central Hardin and Franklin County, Nelson County topped rival Thomas Nelson 61-50. 11. North Hardin (0-3): The Trojans struggled during the first week of the season. Opening the season 0-3, North Hardin dropped games to Oldham County, Moore and Clinton County. Following a lopsided setback to Oldham County, North Hardin suffered 10-point losses to both Moore and Clinton County. 12. Thomas Nelson (1-2): The Generals claimed a win over Burgin in between losses to Anderson County and Nelson County during the first week of the season. Thomas Nelson topped Burgin 93-64 for its first win. 13. Washington County (1-3): Another active boys' high school basketball teams in the state during the first week of the season, Washington County defeated Adair County in its debut before dropping games to Taylor County, Marion County and Elizabethtown. 14. Bethlehem (1-2): Following a busy first week of the season, Bethlehem is 1-2. The Eagles rolled past Hart County 81-48 before dropping games to Bullitt Central and Grayson County. 15. Hart County (1-1): After suffering the lopsided loss to Bethlehem, Hart County bounced back to beat Caverna. Trevor Blair and Jordan Burden scored 25 points apiece as Hart County handled Caverna 80-66. 16. Caverna (1-1): The Colonels split their first two games, defeating Fort Knox 67-59 in a season opener. However, Hart County dealt Caverna its first loss, beating the Colonels 80-66. 17. Green County (0-2): The Dragons are 0-2 after losing back-to-back games during the first week of the season. Green County opened the 2019 season with consecutive losses to Barren County and Adair County. 18. Fort Knox (0-3): The Eagles opened the season 0-3 following losses to Caverna, Taylor County and Louisville Collegiate during the first week. Fort Knox pushed Caverna for a win before suffering lopsided losses to Taylor County and Louisville Collegiate.

1. John Hardin (35-1): Despite losing two starters to graduation, reigning champion John Hardin is favored to repeat in the 5th Region. Senior guard/forward Alex Matthews (18 ppg, 11 rpg) is the top player back for the Bulldogs. Matthews averaged a double-double for John Hardin during the 2018-19 boys' high school basketball season. Along with Matthews, senior guard Trevon Harris (6-4) and senior center Preston Murrell (6-9) are back for the Bulldogs. 2. Marion County (22-9): With a senior-heavy lineup, Marion County is a 5th Region title contender. First-year head coach Maze Stallworth is set to guide the Knights. Tyshay Epps (16.3 ppg) is the leading player back for the veteran-laden Marion County team. Additional seniors who will excel for Marion County are John Adams, Mason Sullivan and Jamison Epps. 3. Elizabethtown (13-14): The Panthers will look to push 17th District nemesis John Hardin for the top spot in the 5th Region. Elizabethtown will be much-improved after concluding the 2018-19 season 13-14. All five starters are back for the Panthers. Junior guard JaQuias Franklin (20.5 ppg) is the top returnee for Elizabethtown. Along with Franklin, Elizabethtown features junior forward Camden Williams (17.6 ppg). Senior Myles Fields and juniors Kam Sherrard and Khia Sherrard are also returning players for the Panthers. 4. Bardstown (15-16): With 6-8 senior swingman J.J. Traynor (11.2 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 3 bpg) leading the way, Bardstown will push teams throughout the 5th Region. But Traynor isn't the only talented player back for the Tigers. Senior guard JaRel Montgomery (14 ppg, 4.6 rpg) is another leader for 19th District frontrunner Bardstown. 5. Central Hardin (19-10): After winning nearly 20 games during the 2018-19 season, Central Hardin returns a pair of players who averaged double figures in scoring. Seniors Gavin George and Deonco Wilkerson are poised to lead the Bulldogs. A veteran-laden team, Central Hardin will also feature seniors Chase Elmore and Shaun Hay. 6. LaRue County (26-5): After reaching the 5th Region Semifinals, LaRue County must replace three starters. A 6-6 senior, Mark Goode (14.5, 9 rpg) is the top player back for the Hawks. Junior guard Jeremiah Belton and seniors Warner Bryan and Chase Childress also return for 18th District favorite LaRue County. 7. Campbellsville (18-13): Former University of Kentucky star player Anthony Epps is set to guide Campbellsville in his first season as the Eagles' head coach. Senior point guard Malachi Corley is poised to lead the Eagles on the floor. Corley averaged 19.9 points and 8 rebounds per game for Campbellsville during the 2018-19 season. To compliment Corley, junior guard Arren Hash (9.0 ppg) is back for the Eagles. 8. Taylor County (23-8): The Cardinals will be under the direction of first-year head coach Montrelle Irvin. Taylor County excelled throughout the 2018-19 season but must replace some key players. Senior guards Nick Knifley (13.1 ppg, 2.3 rpg) and Kybrin Smith (9.6 ppg, 4.7 rpg) are back for the Cardinals. 9. Thomas Nelson (18-13): Junior Andrew Mason (9.5 ppg) will be expected to help lead Thomas Nelson as he's the team's top returning scorer. Additional players set to deliver for Thomas Nelson are senior Austin Burba and sophomores Braden Smith, Andrew Hogan and Garrett Downs. 10. North Hardin (12-19): A trio of guards are prepared to lead North Hardin after the Trojans' football team made a postseason run that included an appearance in the Class 6A State Semifinals, eSophomore Queshaun Davis (10 ppg), junior Jalen Sharps Jr. and senior Naasir Johnson are all back on the hardwood for the Trojans. 11. Adair County (12-19): The Indians face the tough task of replacing four starters from the 2018-19 season. Sophomore guard Lucas Pooler is the lone returning starter for former region title contender Adair County. In addition to Pooler, Adair County will feature senior D.J. Brown and junior Brice Starks. 12. Green County (10-18): Graduation didn't spare the Green County boys' basketball program. The Dragons will be minus multiple experienced players. But Green County returns junior Gunner Bush (15.4 ppg). Along with Bush, seniors Bryce Blakeman and Braeden Sluder and junior Jackson Johnson return for the Dragons. 13. Hart County (10-19): The Raiders will be under the direction of first-year head coach Justin Line. Five seniors are set to contribute for Hart County in the 2019-20 season. Swingman Jordan Burden (11.7 ppg) is the top player back for the Raiders. In addition to Burden, Hart County returns guard Braydon Bell (10.5 ppg), who connected on 45 3-point field goals last season as well. 14. Washington County (19-13): The Commanders face the chore of rebuilding after the majority of the scorers from last season graduated. Junior point guard Josh Burkhead is poised to pace Washington County from one of the Commanders' five starting positions. Washington County flirted with 20 wins last season. 15. Nelson County (3-28): Sophomore forward/guard Bryce Riley is back to lead Nelson County after excelling for the Cardinals as a freshman. During his freshman season, Riley averaged 12.6 points per game and drained 63 3-point field goals. Nelson County will look to show a vast amount of improvement early in the 2019-20 season. 16. Bethlehem (8-20): Two scorers who averaged double figures during the 2018-19 season are back for the Eagles. Bethlehem returns seniors Kruse Harned (11.3 ppg) and Lain Peake (10 ppg). Ranking as Bethlehem's top long range shooter last season, Peake drained 32 3-point field goals. 17. Fort Knox (2-24): The Eagles are expected to show improvement with the return of sophomore Corey Brown (9.5 ppg). While averaging nearly 10 points per game for Fort Knox, Brown connected on 54 3-point field goals during the 2018-19 boys' high school basketball season. 18. Caverna (1-26): The Colonels will enter the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season on a 26-game losing skid. However, Caverna returns four senior starters. Louisville Power Rankings - November 8, 2019 (Final)
1. Male (10-0): Reigning Class 6A champion Male wrapped up an undefeated season on Friday, Nov. 1. But it wasn't easy. Male managed to edge rival Manual 22-21 in a regular season finale. During the regular-season, Male outscored opponents 421-122. Quarterback Elijah Parish led Male throughout the regular-season, passing for 1,909 yards and 19 touchdowns. Emerging as Male's leading receiver, Izayah Cummings hauled in 47 receptions for 870 yards and nine touchdowns. Jaylin Bross rushed 129 times for 1,042 yards and 16 touchdowns. The Shamrocks are on a three-game winning streak after dropping two of three games midway through the current campaign. Trinity has outscored opponents 356-113. Quarterback Nathan McElroy leads the Shamrocks. McElroy has completed 126 passes for 1,759 yards and 18 touchdowns. The Shamrocks narrowly lost to Male during the regular-season. Trinity is set to entertain Marshall County in the first round of the Class 6A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl. 3. North Hardin (10-0): A Class 6A title contender, North Hardin pummeled Pleasure Ridge Park 48-20 to cap off a perfect regular-season. The Trojans have outscored opponents 359-88 and boast the best defense in Class 6A. Offensively, through the air, quarterback Manie Wimberly has completed 127 passes for 2,051 yards and 20 touchdowns. Josh Moore, who has reeled in 40 receptions for 799 yards and nine touchdowns, leads North Hardin in receiving. On the ground for the Trojans, running back Lavell Wright has rushed 191 times for 1,256 yards and 18 touchdowns. North Hardin is poised to entertain Barren County in the Class 6A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl. 4. Manual (8-2): Following the heartbreaking loss to Male, Manual packs an 8-2 record into the postseason. Through 10 games, Manual has outscored opponents 319-144. Quarterback Zach Recktenwald and running back JaWaun Northington are combining to lead the Crimsons offensively. Recktenwald has completed 59 passes for 916 yards and eight touchdowns. Leading Manual on the ground, Northington has rushed 93 times for 758 yards and 16 touchdowns. Much-improved Manual is slated to host Pleasure Ridge Park as the Class 6A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl kicks off. 5. St. Xavier (6-4): The Tigers slipped back into the loss column during a regular-season finale as rival St. Xavier from Ohio prevailed 35-30. During the regular-season, the Tigers outscored opponents 281-188 but dropped games to in-state opponents Male, Trinity and Manual, one of which is a district opponent. Quarterback Douglas Bodhaine led St. Xavier throughout the regular season, completing 108 passes for 1,570 yards and 13 touchdowns. Louisville-based St. Xavier is prepared to host Butler during the initial round of the Class 6A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl. 6. South Oldham (9-1): After falling to Christian Academy-Louisville in a season opener, South Oldham has reeled off nine straight wins. The Dragons dominated during the final week of the regular-season, rolling past Central Hardin 43-7. South Oldham has thrived on the ground, rushing 253 times for 2,521 yards and 41 touchdowns. Leading South Oldham on the ground, Keaton Martin has rushed 116 times for 932 yards and 18 touchdowns. Quarterback Anthony Pierce has produced through the air for South Oldham, completing 45 passes for 963 yards and 13 touchdowns. South Oldham is due to entertain Atherton in the first round of the Class 5A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl. 7. Fern Creek (7-3): Another much-improved high school football team from Louisville, Fern Creek finished the regular season strong, shutting out Southern 45-0. Fern Creek has outscored opponents 260-155. As a team, Fern Creek has rushed 361 times for 2,328 yards and 30 touchdowns. Running backs Terrance Mitchell and Anthony Teague have each rushed for over 800 yards apiece for the Tigers. Fern Creek is headed into a Class 6A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl opening round game versus Bullitt East. 8. Central Hardin (8-2): After opening the season 8-0, Central Hardin has dropped back-to-back games. However, Central Hardin remains a Top 10 team. Quarterback Chase Elmore (2,1016 yards, 13 touchdowns), receiver Gavin George (1,068 yards, nine touchdowns) and running back Deonco Wilkerson (811 yards, 10 touchdowns) combine to lead the Bruins. Central Hardin is set to host Meade County as the Class 6A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl kicks off. 9. DeSales (7-3): The Colts fell to Meade County in a regular season finale. Following the loss, DeSales quickly turned its collective attention to Western Hills. The Colts will host Western Hills in the opening round of the Class 3A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl. DeSales outscored opponents 339-185 during the regular season, thanks in part to a stout rushing attack. Running back James Johnson leads the Colts. Johnson has rushed 145 times for 1,107 yards and 12 touchdowns. 10. Ballard (5-5): The Bruins built some momentum in the final week of the regular season, beating Henry Clay 20-7 to move back to the .500 mark. Offensively for Ballard, running back Jayden Farmer leads the way. Farmer has rushed 144 times for 1,541 yards and 16 touchdowns. Defensively for Ballard, linebacker Justice Thompson has posted 100 tackles, 22 tackles for losses and two sacks. Ballard is scheduled to host Eastern at Seneca in the opening round of the Class 6A KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl. 1. Male (9-0): The Bulldogs remained undefeated in Week 10, leveling Bullitt East 50-0. Running back Jaylin Bross led Male to the victory over Bullitt East, rushing 12 times for 140 yards and three touchdowns. A pair of quarterbacks — Elijah Parish and Chad Carroll — combined to complete 13 of 21 passes for 203 yards and one touchdown. VJ Anthony was on the receiving and of a 7-yard scoring pass from Parish. Linebacker Joe Kuerzi led Male on the defensive side, delivering seven tackles. The unbeaten Bulldogs are scheduled to visit Manual for a regular-season finale on Friday night. 2. Trinity (7-2): Rolling to its second straight win, Trinity shut out Eastern 44-0 in Week 10. Quarterback Nathan McElroy led the Shamrocks to the victory, completing 8-of-10 passes for 199 yards and four touchdowns. Armon Tucker, Ryan Miller, Wynton Johnson and Kaelan Racculia hauled in one touchdown pass reception apiece for the Shamrocks. Trinity rushed 21 times for 163 yard and one touchdown. Brad West accounted for the Shamrocks' lone rushing score. Kamron Hendrick led Trinity defensively, registering two sacks and returning a fumble 27 yards for a touchdown. North Hardin (9-0): Surviving in its latest outing, North Hardin edged rival Central Hardin 7-0 on Friday, Oct. 25. The victory, a district win, allowed the Trojans to remain undefeated. Manie Wimberly connected with Lavell Wright on a scoring pass for the game's only touchdown. Wimberly completed 15 of 21 passes for 125 yards and one touchdown while throwing two interceptions. Wright led North Hardin in both receiving and rushing. The versatile Wright rushed 23 times for 104 yards. Defensively for North Hardin, Octavious Oxendine, Darren Green and Michael Lunz posted six tackles apiece. The Trojans are due to host Pleasure Ridge Park in a regular-season finale on Friday night. 4. Manual (8-1): The Crimsons cruised to another win in Week 10, beating Butler 34-6. JaWaun Northington rushed for two touchdowns in Manual's most recent win. Leading Manual on the ground, DeAaron Robinson rushed nine times for 99 yards. Manual reeled off its sixth straight win. Much-improved Manual hasn't lost since falling to Scott County in early-September. The Crimsons are poised to host Male in the 138 Old Rivalry Game. 5. St. Xavier (6-3): The Tigers remained in the win column on Friday, Oct. 25, thumping Pleasure Ridge Park 36-13. Logan Davis and Mekhi Smith combined to lead St. Xavier to the victory. Davis rushed nine times for 88 yards and three touchdowns. Finishing closely behind Davis, Smith rushed four times for 83 yards and two touchdowns. The Tigers are scheduled to host Cincinnati-based St. Xavier for a regular-season finale on Friday night. 6. DeSales (7-2): The Colts pulled away to defeat Mercer County 39-23 in the McGinnis Home Improvement Game on the final Friday in October. Running back James Johnson led DeSales to the victory, rushing 28 times for 237 yards and three touchdowns. The Colts are prepared to visit Meade County for a regular-season finale on Friday night. 7. Central Hardin (8-1): The Bruins dropped a heartbreaker as rival North Hardin held on to win 7-0 in Week 10. Central Hardin was limited on the ground in the setback, rushing 26 times for only 27 yards. Quarterback Chase Elmore managed to complete 10 of 19 passes for 16 yards for the Bruins but threw two interceptions. The Bruins are set to visit South Oldham for a regular-season finale on Friday night. 8. Fern Creek (7-3): Bouncing back from a loss to Male one week earlier, Fern Creek shut out Southern 45-0 in its regular-season finale one week ago. The Tigers excelled on the ground in the convincing win, rushing 26 times for 234 yards and six touchdowns. Anthony Teague paced Fern Creek in the victory over Southern, rushing five times for 93 yards and three TDs. The Tigers are open in the final week of the regular-season. 9. Ballard (4-5): The Bruins experienced heartbreak in Week 10 as Scott County won 46-45 in overtime. Running back Jayden Farmer turned in one of the best single-game offensive performances thus far in the 2019 high school football season, rushing 28 times for 378 yards and three touchdowns. As a team, Ballard rushed 41 times for 415 yards and six TDs. Larry Cummins rushed five times for 27 yards and three touchdowns in the Bruins' setback. The Bruins are headed to Henry Clay for a regular-season finale on Friday night. 10. South Oldham (8-1): After being open on Friday Oct. 25, South Oldham is prepared to host Central Hardin in a a regular-season finale. The Dragons are riding an eight-game winning streak. Through nine games, South Oldham has outscored opponents 406-42. Quarterback Anthony Pierce and running back Keaton Martin combine to lead the Dragons offensively. Big Risers 1. Kentucky Country Day (9-0): Remaining undefeated, Kentucky Country Day leveled Eminence 62-13. Quarterback Luke Russo led Kentucky Country Day to the impressive win, completing nine of 11 passes for 197 yards and three touchdowns while throwing one interception. The Bearcats are slated to host Campbellsville in a regular-season finale on Friday night. 2. Christian Academy-Louisville (5-4): The Centurions returned to the win column on the road one week ago, shutting out host Western Hills 41-0. In the Centurions' win, quarterback Anthony Sabatino completed 10 of 14 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns. His top target, Luke Leeper, hauled in eight receptions for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Christian Academy-Louisville is set to host Bullitt Central in a regular-season finale on Friday night. Big Droppers 1. Central (5-5): The Yellow Jackets fell short as Franklin County held on to win 14-12 in a Class 4A, District 4 showdown on Friday, Oct. 25. Dayshawn Mucker rushed 33 times for 137 yards and one touchdown in the Yellow Jackets' setback. The loss forced Central to end the regular-season 5-5. However, Central will likely get another shot to knock off Franklin County in the postseason. 2. Waggener (5-4): After reeling off five straight wins, Waggener suffered its third consecutive loss as Shelby County prevailed 34-26. But not before Wildcat quarterback Alijah Sickles did some damage through the air. Sickles completed 12 of 26 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns while throwing one interception. Waggener is scheduled to host Eastern for a regular-season finale on Friday night. Last Week's Game of the Week The game of the week for Friday, Oct. 25 lived up to its hype as North Hardin outlasted rival Central Hardin 7-0 in a Class 6A, District 2 battle. With the win, North Hardin moved to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in Class 6A, District 2. Central Hardin dropped to 8-1 overall and 2-1 in the district with the loss. The Trojans and Bruins are likely to meet again in the postseason. Player of the Week Jayden Farmer, Ballard, Jr., RB One of the state's most underrated high school football players, Farmer averaged 13.5 yards per carry in the Bruins' overtime loss to Scott County. Farmer, who rushed 28 times for 378 yards and three touchdowns in the matchup versus Scott County, leads Ballard offensively. In nine games, Farmer has rushed 29 times for 1,321 yards and 14 TDs. Game of the Week Male at Manual The Bulldogs are set to visit the Crimsons for the 138th Old Rivalry Game. Male is 9-0. The Bulldogs have notched wins over Floyd Central (Ind.), Ballard, St.Xavier, Trinity, Butler, Pleasure Ridge Park, Southern, Fern Creek and Bullitt East. Through nine games, Male has outscored opponents 399-101. Manual is 8-1. The Crimsons have posted wins over Central, Fern Creek, Oldham County, North Bullitt, Eastern, St. Xavier, Pleasure Ridge Park and Male. Manual dropped a game to Scott County earlier in the season. Through nine games, much-improved Manual has outscored its opponents 298-122. Male rolled to a win over Manual in a late-season game in 2018, blanking the Crimsons 48-0. With the win, Male improved to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in Class 6A, District 4. Fern Creek dropped to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the district with the loss. Player of the Week Jawaun Northington, Sophomore, Running back/Linebacker, Manual Northington lifted Manual offensively in Week 9, rushing nine times for 133 yards and three touchdowns. Among the Crimsons' top performers on the defensive side, Northington recorded four tackles. Game of the Week North Hardin at Central Hardin Two unbeaten teams from Hardin County will meet in a Class 6A, District 2 showdown on Friday night as Central Hardin (8-0) hosts North Hardin (8-0). Through eight games, Central Hardin has outscored opponents 373-121. During that same stretch, North Hardin has outscored opponents 304-68. Central Hardin is much-improved from the 2018 season. Player of the Week Kyle Feger, Trinity, Jr., RB Thriving on the ground, junior running back Kyle Feger averaged over nine yards per carry in Trinity's blowout win over Ballard. 1. Male (6-0): Undefeated top-ranked Male notched its first shutout win in the 2019 high school football season during Week 7, blanking Pleasure Ridge Park 47-0. Quarterback Elijah Parish led Male to the victory, completing 11 of 23 passes for 135 yards and three touchdowns. Parish completed two scoring passes to Vinny Anthony. Male rushed 34 times for 277 yards an four touchdowns. Quantrell Wright and Jaylin Bross each rushed for over 125 yards for the Bulldogs. Wright led Male on the ground, rushing 16 times for 132 yards and three touchdowns. The Bulldogs are scheduled to visit Southern on Friday night. 2. Trinity (5-2): The Shamrocks slipped back into the loss column on the road as Indianapolis-based Cathedral pulled away to win 28-7 on Friday, Oct. 4. Trinity was limited offensively in its latest setback. On the ground, Trinity rushed 24 times for 62 yards. Quarterback Nathan McElroy completed 12 of 34 passes for 169 yards and one touchdown while throwing three interceptions in the loss. Ryan Miller led Trinity in receiving, hauling in five receptions for 123 yards and one touchdown. The Shamrocks are slated to host Ballard on Friday night. 3. St. Xavier (4-2): Following a lopsided loss to rival Trinity its opening week, St. Xavier will host Manual on Friday night Through the Tigers' first six games, quarterback Douglas Bodhaine has complete 67 of 121 passes for 992 yards and eight touchdowns while throwing five interceptions. Running back Logan Davis leads St. Xavier on the ground. Davis has rushed 92 times for 446 yards and eight touchdowns. 4. North Hardin (7-0): The Trojans continued to roll in Week 7, dismantling Meade County 47-10. Quarterback Manie Wimberly and receiver Josh Moore combined to lead North Hardin to the victory. Wimberly completed 15 of 20 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns. Emerging as the North Hardin quarterback's top target, Moore hauled in seven receptions for 232 yards and three TDs. North Hardin is open the week of Friday, Oct. 11. 5. Central Hardin (6-0): Another team perfect thus far in the 2019 season, Central Hardin beat Butler 47-22 in Week 7. Quarterback Chase Elmore led Central Hardin to the win, completing eight of 12 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns while throwing one interception. Elmore's top target, Deonco Wilkerson, hauled in six receptions for 172 yards and one touchdown while adding two rushing TDs. TreJean Sanders led Central Hardin on the ground, rushing seven times for 102 yards and one touchdown. The Bruins are due to visit Barren County on Friday night. 6. DeSales (4-2): Class 3A title contender DeSales claimed its third straight win in Week 7, upending host Paducah Tilghman 49-14. Running back James Johnson and quarterback DeMarcus Avery combined to lead DeSales to the win. On the ground, Johnson rushed 13 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Through the air, Avery completed all three of his pass attempts for 117 yards and two touchdowns. The Colts are due to visit Christian Academy-Louisville for a key district matchup on Friday night. 7. Manual (5-1): In a dominant effort, the Crimsons rolled past visiting Eastern 49-8 in Week 7. Much-improved Manual notched its third straight win. Manual thrived on the ground in the victory over Eastern, rushing 31 times for 304 yards and six touchdowns. The Crimsons will face a tough test versus visiting St. Xavier on Friday night. 8. Fern Creek (5-2): Notching its third consecutive win in Week 7, Fern Creek topped Oldham County 35-13. Running back Terrance Mitchell led Fern Creek to the victory, rushing five times for 181 yards and three touchdowns. Fern Creek piled up yardage on the ground, rushing 35 times for 385 yards and four TDs. The Tigers are poised to visit Bullitt East on Friday night. 9. Ballard (3-3): Following a week off, Ballard will face the challenge of visiting Trinity on Friday night. Offensively, running back Jayden Farmer continues to lead the Bruins. South Oldham (6-1): After falling to Christian Academy-Louisville in a season opener, South Oldham has reeled off six straight wins. The Dragons leveled Atherton 50-6 in Week 7. Central (3-4): Reigning Class 3A champion Central has claimed back-to-back wins after suffering through a three-game losing skid. The Yellow Jackets blanked Shelby County 14-0 in Week 4. Central is set to host Waggener on Friday night. 2. Kentucky Country Day (6-0): After being open in Week 7, Kentucky Country Day will have an opportunity to notch another win and remain undefeated when it visits Berea on Friday night. Both Kentucky Country Day and Berea are unbeaten. Big Droppers 1. Butler (3-4): Following a lopsided loss to Central Hardin in Week 7, Butler has dropped back-to-back games. After three straight games on the road, the Bruins will look to return to the win column when Pleasure Ridge Park visits on Friday night. 2. Eastern (2-5): After wining back-to-back games Eastern has suffered two consecutive losses. The Eagles have been held to eight points in each of the last two weeks. However, Eastern is open the week of Friday, Oct. 11. Last Week's Game of the Week Central Hardin pulled away to beat Butler 47-22, thanks to an offensive attack which rolled up 477 total yards. The Bruins' offense was balanced. Central Hardin rushed for 234 yards in the win. Defensively, Central Hardin limited Butler to 135 rushing yards in its impressive victory. Player of the Week Deonco Wilkerson, Central Hardin, Sr., RB/WR/DB Wilkerson led Central Hardin in receiving while finishing as the Bruins' second-leading rusher. He hauled in six catches for 172 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Wilkerson rushed nine times for 83 yards and two TDs. Defensively, Wilkerson returned an interception 29 yards for a touchdown and registered two tackles. Game of the Week St. Xavier vs. Manual St. Xavier (4-2) and Manual (5-1) will meet on the Crimsons' home field in a key Class 6A, District 3 matchup. The game will serve as a district opener for each team. St. Xavier defeated Manual 25-7 when the two tradition-rich Louisville high school football teams met in 2018. Pacing Male on the ground, Jaylin Bross rushed 18 times for 138 yards and three TDs. The Bulldogs are set to visit Pleasure Ridge Park on Thursday night. 2. Trinity (5-1): Shaking off a double overtime loss to Male, Trinity rolled past nemesis St. Xavier 35-3. Trinity quarterback Nathan McElroy completed 13 of 22 passes for 244 yards while throwing one interception. Continuing to lead Trinity on the ground, Armon Tucker rushed 18 times for 112 yards and two touchdowns. The Shamrocks are slated to visit Cathedral (Ind.) on Friday night. 3. North Hardin (6-0): The Trojans dismantled another opponent in Week 6, leveling visiting Bullitt East 42-6. Quarterback Manie Wimberly led North Hardin to the win, completing 24 of 39 passes for 370 yards and three touchdowns while throwing one interception. On the ground, Wimberly rushed four times for 49 yards. Three different North Hardin receivers finished with over 100 yards. Through the air for Central Hardin, quarterback Chase Elmore completed 12 of 16 passes for 273 yards. Thriving on the ground, Central Hardin rushed 33 times for 274 yards and five touchdowns. The Bruins are due to host Butler on Thursday night. 6. DeSales (3-2): Class 3A title contender DeSales pulled away to defeat Henry County 43-6 in Week 6. Darren Hollenkamp and James Johnson rushed for two touchdowns apiece for the Colts. As a team, DeSales rushed 21 times for 243 yards and five touchdowns in the convincing victory over Henry County. After returning to the win column, DeSales is set to host Henry County on Friday night. 6. Manual (3-1): The Crimsons were open in Week 5. Quarterback Zach Recktenwald has completed 26 of 44 passes for 394 yards and five touchdowns while throwing only one interception in Manual's first four games. Manual is poised to entertain North Bullitt on Friday night. 7. Central Hardin (4-0): Remaining undefeated in Week 5, Central Hardin outlasted Elizabethtown 57-40. Central (1-4): Another reigning state champion, Central suffered its third straight loss as South Warren prevailed 22-8 in Week 5. However, Central has shown improvement and will be looking to claim a victory on the road at Meade County Friday night. Last Week's Game of the Week Defending Class 6A champion Male persevered in Week 5, knocking off rival Trinity, the state's top-ranked team, 20-17 in double overtime. Louisville Power Rankings Top 10 1. Trinity (2-0): Prevailing on the road and notching its second straight win, Trinity upended host Warren Central (Ind.) 17-14 in Week 2. The trio of quarterback Nathan McElroy and running backs Brad West and Armon Tucker combined to lead Trinity to the victory over the rival from neighboring Indiana. After being on the road in Week 2, Trinity is set to entertain Ohio powerhouse Archbishop Moeller on Friday night. 2. Male (2-0): Pulling away to win convincingly, Male beat visiting Ballard 41-14 in Week 2. Numerous playmakers contributed as Male amassed 478 yards of total offense. Quarterback Elijah Parish led Male to the win, completing 14 of 17 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns. Joe Kuerzi, who picked up 148 yards on the ground, rushed for three TDs. Male is slated to visit St. Xavier for a showdown on Friday night. 3. St. Xavier (2-0): Continuing to roll in Week 2, St. Xavier leveled Henry Clay 48-7. As part of a balanced offensive effort, quarterback Douglas Bodhaine (184 passing yards, two touchdowns) and running back Logan Davis (128 rushing yards, three touchdowns) combined to lead the Tigers. Through two games, St. Xavier has outscored opponents 86-14. St. Xavier will be looking to knock off rival Male in Week 3. 4. Christian Academy of Louisville (2-0): Reigning state champion Christian Academy of Louisville recorded its second shutout in the 2019 season in Week 2, blanking Christian County 36-0. Quarterback Anthony Sabatino led Christian Academy of Louisville to the victory, completing 12 of 20 pass attempts for 128 yards and three touchdowns while throwing one interception. The Hunter Cantwell-coached Centurions are scheduled to host Eastern on Friday night. 5. South Oldham (1-1): After suffering an overtime loss to Christian Academy of Louisville. South Oldham leveled Eastern 49-7 in Week 2. Running back JT Benson led South Oldham to the convincing victory over Eastern, rushing four times for 117 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively in the win, South Oldham held Eastern to 88 yards of total offense. The Dragons are due to host Bullitt Central for a home opener on Friday night. 6. DeSales (1-1): Antoine Johnson scored three touchdowns — two rushing and one receiving — to lead DeSales over Butler 37-8 in Week 2. The victory over Butler allowed DeSales to even its record to 1-1 after a loss to St. Xavier in a season opener. DeSales is on its bye week. 7. North Hardin (2-0): Determined North Hardin defeated Elizabethtown 20-13 in Week 2 to move to 2-0. Quarterback Logan Coleman completed 14 of 23 passes for 237 yards and one touchdown in the Trojans' win. His favorite target, Josh Moore, hauled in seven catches for 143 yards and the scoring pass. Then there was running back Lavell Wright, who rushed 22 times for 169 yards and two TDs. North Hardin is set to entertain Ballard for a home opener on Friday night. 8. Ballard (1-1): Following its lopsided loss to Male, Ballard will look to knock off North Hardin on the road on Friday night. After erupting for 50 points during its season opener at Doss, Ballard was limited offensively in the loss to Male. Ballard is prepared to take the field for its third consecutive home game to start the 2019 high school football season. 9. Manual (2-0): The Crimsons fended off Fern Creek 22-18 in Week 2 to move to 2-0. Quarterback Zach Recktenwald completed a scoring pass to Curtis Reardon while running backs JuWuan Northington and Ramont Townsend rushed for one touchdown apiece in Manual's hard-fought win. Manual will face a tough test when it visits Scott County on Friday night. 10. Fern Creek (1-1): Less than a touchdown separates Fern Creek from being undefeated in the young 2019 season. The Tigers will have an opportunity to knock off a reigning state champion when it visits Central on Friday night. Big Risers 1. Oldham County (2-0): Dominating in Week 2, Oldham County dismantled North Oldham 58-14. The win, which featured 576 yards of total offense, allowed the Colonels to move to 2-0. Quarterback Sam Young was a perfect 11-of-11 passing for 197 yards and two touchdowns. Leading Oldham County on the ground, Juan Tapia rushed 20 times for 205 yards and three TDs. Oldham County is set to host Shelby County on Friday night. 2. Central (1-1): Shaking off its season-opening setback to Manual, Central leveled outmatched Iroquois 46-0 in its bowl game in Week 2. Running back Dayshawn Mucker led the Yellow Jackets to the win, rushing 14 times for 137 yards and three touchdowns. Louisville Power Rankings Top 10 1. Trinity (1-0): Tradition-rich Trinity flexed its collective muscles in the opening week of the 2019 high school football season, topping visiting Carmel (Ind.) 41-14. Quarterback Nathan McElroy, who has earned the role of starting signal-caller, completed 17 of 24 pass attempts for 207 yards and three touchdowns while throwing one interception. The Shamrocks are set to host Warren Central (Ind.) on Friday. 2. Male (1-0): Reigning Class 6A State Champion Male won its 2019 season opener as well, pulling away to defeat visiting Floyd Central (Ind.) 42-13. The Bulldogs piled up 400-plus yards of total offense in the winning effort. Helping to lead Male to the victory, University of Kentucky commit Izayah Cummings hauled in seven receptions for 173 yards and four touchdowns. Male is poised to host rival Ballard on Friday. 3. St. Xavier (1-0): Behind a Douglas Bodhaine-led aerial attack, St. Xavier picked apart DeSales 37-8 in a high school football season opener. Bodhaine completed passes to five different receivers, passing for over 290 yards. Michael Duddy, Elijah Byrne and Meki Smith emerged as top targets for the Tigers. Defensively for the Tigers in the season opener, Hale Bohler recorded a team-high 10 tackles. St. Xavier is slated to face host Henry Clay in the Bluegrass Bowl at 6 p.m. on Friday. 4. Christian Academy of Louisville (1-0): Determined Christian Academy of Louisville managed to outlast South Oldham 6-0 in overtime in a season opener. Brandt Babin led Christian Academy of Louisville to the hard-fought win. Babin was held out of the endzone but rushed 23 times for 131 yards. Former University of Louisville quarterback Hunter Cantwell is in his first season as the Centurions' head coach Christian Academy of Louisville is set to face Christian County in the Toyota of Hopkinsville Jerry Claiborne Bowl on Friday. 5. South Oldham (0-1): Despite being held scoreless, South Oldham came out of the season-opening loss to Christian Academy of Louisville with some positives. South Oldham and Christian Academy of Louisville finished the season opener with similar yardage. The Dragons rushed for 148 yards in the loss to the Centurions. Six South Oldham running backs rushed for positive yardage and quarterback Anthony Pierce completed half of his passing attempts one week ago. South Oldham is scheduled to visit Eastern on Friday. 6. DeSales (0-1): The Colts were limited as St. Xavier pulled away to win in the season opener. However, DeSales is expected to show signs of improvement in its next outing. In the Colts' 2019 debut versus St. Xavier, quarterback DeMarcus Avery completed seven of 13 pass attempts for 100 yards and one touchdown while throwing one interception. DeSales is due to host Butler on Friday. 7. Ballard (1-0): Ballard dominated in its opener, dismantling host Doss 50-7. Several players contributed to Ballard's convincing victory. Ballard excelled offensively and defensively throughout the game versus Doss, limiting the Dragons to only one touchdown. The Bruins have a tough test in front of them. Ballard will be looking to pull off an upset when it visits Male on Friday. 8. North Hardin (1-0): The Trojans are fresh off defeating Waggener 48-14 in the Fairdale-hosted King of the Bluegrass Bowl. North Hardin quarterback Logan Coleman completed 19 of 25 pass attempts for 355 yards and five touchdowns but threw four interceptions in the season-opening game versus Waggener. The Trojans amassed 544 total yards one week ago. Lavell Wright led North Hardin on the ground, rushing 31 times for 175 yards and two touchdowns. A North Hardin-Elizabethtown matchup looms for Friday. 9. Manual (1-0): Making noise in its season opener, Manual knocked off reigning Class 3A State Champion Central 7-0. The Crimsons sowed much improvement throughout their 2019 debut. Sophomore running back JuWuan Northington, one of the state's top players in the Class of 2022, scored Manual's lone touchdown. The Crimsons are prepared to visit Fern Creek on Friday. 10. Butler (0-1): The Bears showed much improvement in a season-opener versus South Warren. One of the state's top high school football programs, South Warren beat the Bears 33-20 in the Rafferty's Bowl at Western Kentucky University. Quarterback Chaz Burks paced Butler in the season's opening week, completing 10 of 24 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns. Following the loss, Butler quickly turned its focus to DeSales, which awaits on Friday. Big Risers 1. Fern Creek (1-0): Defeating an out-of-state opponent, Fern Creek upended host Jeffersonville (Ind.) 25-6 to start the season 1-0. The Tigers used a balanced offensive attack to notch the win. 2. Oldham County (1-0): Fresh off a 10-win season, Oldham County started 2019 victorious, beating Eastern 27-12. The Colonels limited Eastern to around 200 yards of total offense. Big Droppers 1. Central (0-1): The Yellow Jackets were held scoreless in a loss to Manual. Central failed to carry any momentum from its latest state title campaign over into the 2019 high school football season. 2. Moore (0-1): The Mustangs were limited in a loss to Lexington Christian. Held to 16 points, Moore showed some inexperience throughout the season opener. Game of the Week Ballard at Male Longtime rivals Ballard and Male are prepared to meet in an early-season showdown between two of Louisville's most tradition-rich high school football programs on Friday. The Bulldogs rolled past the Bruins 47-0 when the two teams met on August 24, 2018. However, the 2019 edition of the Ballard-Male gridiron get-together isn't expected to be as lopsided. Kickoff for the Ballard-Male football game is set for 7 p.m. Last Week's Game of the Week Pulling off an upset, Manual shut out Central 7-0 last week. One of Louisville's most-improved high school football programs, Manual entered 2019 looking to record its sixth winning season in seven years. Manual used a stellar defensive effort to beat Central. The Crimsons reached the endzone for the game's lone touchdown at the 7:06 mark of the third quarter. Player of the Week Douglas Bodhaine, St. Xavier, Quarterback, Sr. Strong from start to finish in St. Xavier's opener versus DeSales, Bodhaine completed 12 of 18 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns. Bodhaine finished interception free against DeSales, which picked off 14 passes in 13 games during the 2018 season.

Louisville Power Rankings - Preseason 1. Trinity (7-7) After winning back-to-back state titles, Trinity fell to Male in the 2018 Class 6A Semifinals. But the Shamrocks have reloaded. Tradition-rich Trinity has captured 25 state titles and heads into the 2019 high school football season as the Class 6A favorite. Senior quarterback Seth Jutz is back to lead the Shamrocks. Along with Jutz, Trinity features numerous playmakers, including sophomore running back Armon Tucker. Legendary head coach Bob Beatty continues to guide the Shamrocks. 2. Male (14-1, Class 6A State Champion) Despite Trinity carrying the title of preseason favorite, defending champion Male remains a force. Male must replace several graduates, including quarterback Dennis Garrett. One of the state's most underrated high school football players in 2018, Garrett accounted for 51 touchdowns. Male is without its entire secondary from the 2018 season but returns wide receiver Izayah Cummings, a Kentucky commit. Along with Cummings, sophomore defensive tackle Selah Brown will help to lead the Bulldogs. 3. St. Xavier (9-4) Another tradition-rich program, St. Xavier will be pushing for its first state title since 2009. The Tigers finished the 2018 season 9-4, falling to eventual Class 6A champion Male in the quarterfinals. Seniors Logan Davis (RB) and Hale Bohler (OLB) are among the leaders back for the Tigers. St. Xavier has shown much improvement throughout the preseason. 4. Christian Academy of Louisville (15-0, Class 2A State Champion) Defending Class 2A state champion Christian Academy of Louisville is under the direction of new head coach Hunter Cantwell. The Centurions' offensive attack starts up front along the offensive line with Kentucky commit John Young (OT). Along with Young, Christian Academy of Louisville returns quarterback Anthony Sabatino and running backs Brandt Babin and Harrison Zimmerer. Following realignment, Christian Academy of Louisville made the move up from Class 3A. 5. DeSales (11-2) After compiling a 11-2 record with a pair of losses to Christian Academy of Louisville, DeSales will be looking to knock off its rival during the season ahead. The Colts and Centurions are slated to compete in Class 3A, District 4. Running back Antione Johnson, tight end Demetri Scott and running back/linebacker Darren Hollencamp are leading returnees for the Colts. 6. Ballard (8-5) Ballard returns nearly 20 seniors along with a talented junior class. Leading the way for the Bruins will be senior defensive back/wide receiver Josh Minkins, who has committed to Kentucky. In addition to Minkins, Ballard returns juniors Demetrius Huguley (TE/DL) and Justice Thompson (LB). Ballard ended the 2018 season 8-5 after finishing as a region runner-up. 7. South Oldham (12-2, Class 5A State Semifinals) The Dragons compiled a 12-2 record in 2018. South Oldham remains a district frontrunner following a move to Class 5A, District 4. Senior running back/outside linebacker Keaton Martin is the top player back for the Dragons. A longtime leader for South Oldham, Martin has rushed for 4,325 yards and 55 touchdowns in three years. 8. Central (13-2, Class 3A State Champion) Central is the reigning Class 3A state champion but must either rebuild or reload. The Yellow Jackets have some holes to fill after losing several playmakers and key contributors from the 2018 season. Seniors Aiden Moore (DE) and Benjamin Bush (LB) are back to lead the Central defensive unit. Thriving offensively and defensively, Central managed to outscore opponents 568-101 in 2018. 9. North Hardin (9-3) On the rise, North Hardin returns 15 starters from the 2018 season. Eight of the returnees for North Hardin are on the defensive side. Senior defensive tackle Octavious Oxendine (6-4, 305) is back to lead the Trojans. Offensively, junior running back Lavell Wright is back for the Class 6A, District 2 favorite. North Hardin finished the 2018 season 9-3. The Trojans are fresh off winning their first district title since 2004. 10. Moore (11-2) Quarterback Rae Von Vaden is back for his senior season under center for the Mustangs. 6th Region Tournament Wrapup/Butler - State Tournament Preview
After being the frontrunner for most of the 2018-19 season, Butler outlasted Bullitt East 52-48 to capture the 2019 6th Region boys' basketball title at Valley High School on Saturday, March 2. Butler's journey to the 6th Region championship started with a convincing victory over Jeffersontown in the opening round of the tournament. The Bears pulled away to defeat Jeffersontown 73-52 in the 6th Region Quarterfinals. In the other games played in the 6th Region Quarterfinals it was Bullitt East 58, Moore 46; Pleasure Ridge Park 75, DeSales 59 and Bullitt Central 65, Fairdale 55. The Bears downed Bullitt Central 57-44 in the 6th Region Semifinals. In the other game played in the 6th Region Semifinals, Bullitt East topped Pleasure Ridge Park 45-42. Cameron Underwood scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Willard Minter netted 11 points as Butler beat Bullitt East in the 6th Region title game. Butler shot 42.9 percent (21-of-49) from the field in the region title matchup. The Bears were 6-of-20 (30 percent) from 3-point range. Butler pulled out the hard-fought win in the region title game despite shooting only 36.4 percent (4-of-11) from the free throw line. Nine different Butler players provided scoring in the title-clinching victory over Bullitt East. Maurice Tolley tossed in seven points while Marquis Dorsey posted six points. With the win, Butler improved to 25-7. Butler is on a nine-game winning streak heading into the state tournament. Through 32 games, Tolley (13 ppg) and Minter (10 ppg) are averaging double figures in scoring for the Bears. As a team, Butler is shooting 43.4 percent from the field, 34.4 percent from 3-point range and 66.9 percent from the free throw line. Butler will face 14th Region champion Perry County Central (19-12) in the opening round of the Boys' Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena in Lexington at noon on Thursday, March 7. The Commodores defeated crosstown rival Hazard 53-48 in the 14th Region title game on Saturday, March 2. Perry County Central will carry a seven-game winning streak into the state tournament. Noah Back (18.0 ppg) ranks as the Commodores' leading scorer. Both Back and Noah Caudill (12.8 ppg) average double figures in scoring for 14th Region title winner Perry County Central. As a team, Perry County Central is shooting 46.5 percent from the field, 34.7 percent from 3-point range and 66.9 percent from the free throw line. In the 6th Region, reigning champion Fern Creek won't have a chance to repeat after falling to Bullitt East in the 24th District Semifinals. Moore, Bullitt East, Pleasure Ridge Park, DeSales, Bullitt Central, Fairdale, Butler and Jeffersontown are set to compete in the 6th Region Boys' basketball Tournament. Following games played at four different sites in the quarterfinals, Valley High School is set to host the 6th Region semifinals and championship game. A closer look at the 6th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament follows. Moore at Bullitt East (Monday, Feb. 25, 7 p.m.): The champion out of the 24th District, Bullitt East (18-12) is set to host Moore (16-13) in the opening round of the 6th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament. Moore finished runner-up to Bullitt Central in the 23rd District. In the two teams' lone meeting during the regular-season on January 29, Bullitt East pulled away to beat Moore 65-55. Bullitt East, under the direction of head coach Jason Couch, has notched six straight wins. DeSales at Pleasure Ridge Park (Monday, Feb. 25, 7 p.m.): After capturing the 21st District title, Pleasure Ridge Park is poised to host DeSales in the opening round of the 6th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament. Pleasure Ridge Park will carry a 23-8 overall record into the postseason matchup. The Panthers have won more games than any other 6th Region boys' basketball team. DeSales, which finished runner-up t Butler in the 22nd District, owns an 18-11 overall record. The Cougars beat Moore 51-39 in the 23rd District title game and are set to host 21st District runner-up Fairdale in the opening round of the 6th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament. Currently, Bullitt Central boasts a 22-10 record. Bullitt Central beat Fairdale (13-18) 72-65 during the two teams' lone meeting in the 2018-19 regular-season on February 2. Jeffersontown at Butler (Monday, Feb. 2, 7 p.m.): With the second-best overall record in the 6th Region, Butler is slated to host Jeffersontown in the initial round of the 6th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament. Butler is 22-7. The Bears are on a six-game winning streak of their own. Butler edged DeSales 57-56 in the 22nd District Boys' Basketball Tournament title game. 1. Butler (20-7): The Bears leveled Southern and edged Jeffersontown in the final week of the regular-season. Butler went undefeated in the 22nd District during the regular-season. The Bears have already advanced to the 22nd District Boys' Basketball Tournament Semifinals. Maurice Tolley is averaging a team-best 14 points per game for the Bears. 2. Bullitt Central (20-10): The Cougars compiled a 2-1 record in the final week of the regular-season, beating Beth Haven and Whitefield Academy before falling to Spencer County. As part of a balanced offensive attack, Aiden Terry, Jacob Mann, Chander Ocasio and Tyler Tatum are averaging double figures in scoring for the Chargers. Bullitt Central is already in the 23rd District Boys' Basketball Tournament Semifinals. 4. Jeffersontown (16-10): The Chargers went 1-1 in the final week of the regular-season, defeating Doss before falling to Butler. Blake Butler, Chris Trigg and Brandon Rayzer-Moore are averaging double figures in scoring for the Chargers. Jeffersontown will face Whitefield Academy in the semifinals of the 24th District Boys' Basketball Tournament. 5. DeSales (17-10): The Colts are on a three-game winning streak. DeSales notched back-to-back wins over Shelby County and North Oldham during the final week of the regular-season. Keegan Brewer and Matthew Ruckreigle are combining to average 41 points per game for the Colts. DeSales is set to face Doss in the 22nd District Boys' Basketball Tournament. 6. Fern Creek (14-11): The Tigers won back-to-back games in the final week of the regular-season, downing Western and Fairdale. Heading into the postseason, Fern Creek has won three of its last five games. Fern Creek is poised to battle Bullitt East in the 24th District Boys' Basketball Tournament at Jeffersontown High School. 7. Bullitt East (16-12): The Chargers exited the regular-season on a four-game winning streak. During the final week of the regular-season, Bullitt East knocked off Nelson County and Elizabethtown. Zak Perdew is leading Bullitt East with a 15.4 points per game scoring average. 8. Moore (15-12): The Mustangs dropped two of three games during the final week of the regular-season, defeating Fairdale in between losses to Taylor County and Pleasure Ridge Park. Holy Cross (13-14): The Cougars lost to St. Xavier before rolling past Bethlehem in the final week of the regular season. Since its regular-season finale, Holy Cross has turned its attention to a postseason matchup versus Beth Haven in the 21st District Boys' Basketball Tournament. 14. Western (9-19): The Warriors split games during the final week of the regular-season, falling to Fern Creek prior to defeating Shawnee. Western will be looking to advance in the postseason with a win over Iroquois in the 22nd District Boys' Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals. 15. Evangel Christian (12-18): Evangel Christian had a busy final week of the regular-season, winning one of five games. The Eagles knocked off Heritage Academy but dropped games to Burgin, Brown, St. Francis and Portland Christian. Iroquois (7-22): The Raiders suffered back-to-back losses during the final week of the regular-season, losing to Valley and Southern. Iroquois will face Western on its home floor in the opening round of the 22nd Boys' Basketball Tournament. 19. Beth Haven (6-22): The Bearcats compiled a 1-3 record in the final week of the regular-season, falling to Bullitt Central, Pleasure Ridge Park and Louisville Collegiate before defeating Fort Knox for their sixth in the 2018-19 season. Through Butler's first 22 games, Maurice Tolley was leading the Bears with a 13.5 points per game scoring average. 2. Bullitt Central (18-9): Remaining in the win column, Bullitt Central beat Washington County and Louisville Holy Cross. Four players - Aiden Terry, Jacob Mann, Chandler Ocasio and Tyler Tatum - are averaging double figures in scoring for the Cougars. 3. Jeffersontown (16-10): The Chargers picked up wins over Bullitt and Iroquois following losses to Seneca and Central one week earlier. Blake Butler is leading Jeffersontown with a 16.5 points per game scoring average. 4. Pleasure Ridge Park (18-8): Pleasure Ridge Park added victories over Heart for Christ, Doss and Shawnee to extend its winning streak to eight games.
