Walton-Verona is still in the class A for 2023-24 school year.

Probably wouldn’t happen. Play independent schedule year 1 do to 2nd year of 2 year contracts for district teams they would be aligned with. Join the district following year with new realignment and new 2 year contracts. Would be hard putting together a schedule that first year but it could be done.

The wording says students in private schools have till May 1st to tell school coming back, and they can not transfer to public after that date and be eligible to gain 5th year. “However, in order for students to qualify under section 4 of this act, the students shall submit the request to the non-public school by May 1, and the student shall only use the supplemental school year at the non-public school At which the student was enrolled on that date.”

Major problem if schools go thru all the work and guidance to start hosting events on 9/7, then be told on 9/4 that it is again suspended. Wasted time and money just like preparing for school and that being moved to 9/28 at the 11th hour.

One other point that was addressed in the meeting that winter sports still cannot do anything. Everything is still pertaining to only fall sports.
Actually that isn’t exactly correct, it was recommended that only fall spirts process but was not made illegal. Local decision.

Hazard High School has 9 Football players and a coach test positive for Covid-19.

That's one solution.
And who really plays more than 50 guys, anyway?
Other sports have roster limits.
Already assuming cheerleaders and marching band and dance team are out of the mix.
We are worried about kids standing next to each other on the sidelines, but fine with the contact of the 22 on the field? Seems like the locker room, play, practice, and even busing would be more of a problem.

“Those are definitely person-touching-person-all-the-time sports,” Tackett said. “So the health people are going to be involved. … Coaches are probably not going to have much say-so this year. Maybe we can get back to normal a year from now.”

If schools open, sports should happen. Less risk in sports than in a school classroom. Whether there will be crowds allowed is the question in my mind in that situation.
Disagree completely with this take. A few fall sports I would agree with you on (golf, cross country, and maybe volleyball) but soccer/football would be ALOT more dangerous conditions than in school for kids. In school admin can try to contain distancing, forget that in contact sports.

Yes, but how much patience? I think schools could be a good early implementer in the restart because the young have virtually zero risk of serious impact on them. There have also been some good points made above to the contrary about going back to school in May.
I still feel that the collateral damage to this (schools back in session in May) is far worse than other areas that could open up first.

I guess I will be the one to point out the obvious. Without widespread testing/vaccine aren’t we really just putting off the inevitable herd immunity? Whenever we open back up, without testing/vaccine what is different about March 13 till the day we reopen? i mean no matter when we start reopening the virus is still going to be out there, it’s not going away. Without a vaccine/testing when we reopen what have we really accomplished? I think people are more knowledgeable of the do’s and don’t’s but the virus is still going to be spread by people not aware they have it.

There is no safer group to begin the restart with than students 18 and under. A one or two week wrap up the school year session is a good first step towards "normal".
Not many under 18 year old teachers, custodians, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, and administrators. Throw in the parent volunteers and it will be a free for all. If I had children of school age, which I no longer do, I wouldn’t send them back to school for a week of babysitting.

I saw a website projecting Kentucky's "curve" and the decline begins at the end of April. By the middle of May Kentucky would be using 50% fewer beds than at the peak. Kentucky would be 30% of capacity on ICU beds and less than 10% of total hospital bed capacity with both declining to less than 5% by June 1.
We need to watch Ohio numbers this week to check accuracy of that site. They are showing Ohio's peak is tomorrow. If Ohio numbers go down this week, that supports the website's projections.
I understand that, and again I hope that the state can open up schools, but do you think that social distancing will be gone by the middle of May? If that is still in place, I can’t see schools going back. Also most schools are out by mid May with the skipping of spring break by some districts. Is it really worth schools going back for a week or 2?
-
I think some if not all schools in Kentucky will be in session on site for at least a few days this school year, perhaps as long as two-three weeks for some schools.
If that happens, there will be time for in class assessments about how the students did during online school.
So you believe that schools will be back in session in Kentucky in May? Find that hard to believe when colleges are doing online for summer classes and not on site. Hate to be the superintendent who makes the wrong call on starting school too early. If back in school, can spring sports have an abbreviated season in May & June. Hope your right, but I have my doubts.

If the KHSAA charges more to their annual dues they will not come down. I remember when the dues were raised for them to build there beautiful new building about a decade ago. Did that with the promise that the dues will go back down after it was completed. Dues have been raised 2 more times since then. If the annual dues go up, they will not go back down.

Gino Kirchner went on to be the superintendent of highlands!

I know most don't see it but for a start up program Walton-Verona and Jeff Barth get very little accolades. The facilities they have our the best in Boone County but I think they are usually an after thought due to their size and schedule.
-
I think any list about the 8th Region Top Players needs to have Travis Smith from Walton-Verona. 6'6 Junior pitcher who has already signed with UK. I would be hard pressed to think of 10 players in the 8th better than him.

This is not bashing basketball officials or coaches, but how about we call/play the game the way it is supposed to be played? Stop the hand checking/physical play, let players cut and move like the game was meant to be played. Today's game is not about the best basketball ability, its about the team that is physically stronger. I love watching teams like Cooper/Cov Cath play but that brand of basketball isn't enjoyable for most common fans to watch. I know this is not going to be very popular, and I am not trying to bash coaches or teams.

This is the ACC Semis correct?

Does Mike still teach at Highlands? If Ryle could fine PE spot for him I could see that, but Brossart should be too 4 in 10th next year. Also as good a coach Mike is not sure this late in his coaching tenure he would want a restart in the feeder, parents, and community.
-
Maybe I am naive, but I would think that Ryle would be one of the top 5/6 jobs in the 9th region. Large student body, nice facilities, and good feeder program. They have struggled recently but over the long haul they should have talented players.
