  1. All Star performance does cross-fit and performance training for young adults and adults.  I have 3 children, two college athletes and one still in high school who have participated.  The training protects from injury as well as helps them gain strength, balance, and fitness.

This class is specific for soccer athletes.  Will include some foot skills as well as strength and conditioning work sports specific.

They offer other classes specific to other sports as well.  Their facebook page is a good source of information.

As the most active NDA poster, I'll put a wrap on our active and friendly coverage of this year's girls soccer season and final game.

If you were at the game, or followed on line, my (probably biased) opinion was that the score was closer than the game.  Others could've seen differently, but NDA could have easily been up several goals by half.  I think I read 7 shots on goal to none in first half, and we missed a few close opportunities.  South Oldham kept 4 on their  back line, seemed to mix up their midfield formation (mostly kept defensive) several times, and kept their Louisville committed, stud striker high.   They did not generate much of an offensive threat in the first 70 minutes of the game.  It was not because they were packing the box.  I think the Panda's defended so well in both midfield and final 3rd, and were able to counter so quickly that South Oldham could not get off their heels.  The SO defense and goalie were very busy throughout.

The Panda's seemed to fall back to more defensive formation in the final 13-15 minutes and did lose their composure a bit to make things a little uncomfortable.  A few unnecessary fouls allowed several set pieces for South Oldham in late stage of the game, but NDA was able to get it together and close the game out.

My comments are that (similar to the NDA vs. HIghlands regional final match) South Oldham is a well coached, very good team, but that NDA is a different level with D1 talent and experience all over the field.  I heard the South Oldham coach was complimentary (and classy) with post game comments toward NDA.  As @Frank commented, South Oldham is young and should be a top team in the state next season.

A lot to say about this team and this season, but best to share the final details.  Here is a copy / paste from Coach Suli's Facebook post summary of The Panda's season:

    28-0-1 Undefeated State Champs

    State record Most Total Wins

    State record Most Shutouts 24

118 goals scored and only 4 goals allowed

State record fewest goals allowed by a tea.

Unbiased opinion is similar.  We were there until half so Keelee could get her All state award.

NDA controlled the game, had plenty of decent chances and a few good.  South Oldham was physical and super direct with everything.  We saw as many as 6 along their back line with one striker up top...

I felt the need not to bury this within the 9th Region Preview/Updates thread.  A game like this deserves its very own thread.

The Birds will come into this game very much the underdog having lost to these Pandas already twice by the same score of 3-0 both times.

The game will be played on a very nice turf field at Boone County High School at 7:30pm.

This is going to be a WAR of a game!

Here’s my “homer” commentary on why the Birds in my mind still have a shot.

As I have said a few times before in other posts the Birds are a much different team with Meg Gessner in the box as keeper.  In the 2 losses to NDA Meg played the first half in the first game and gave up a very unfortunate fluke direct kick into the box where there was some miscommunication and the Pandas capitalized on it and punched the ball into the back of the net.  The 2nd game Gessner did not play at all.

Also our back line in the first game was missing one of our Sr Backline defenders Macy Hedenberg who has been a very nice tandem back with Jade Rehberger for the last several weeks.

Coach Norris has now found his starters and has been riding that wave for a few weeks now limiting substitutions to have these starting 11 grow out there.  There last few games it feels like the team has really gelled well together.

DO NOT GET ME WRONG, I truly believe for the Birds to win they need to have that “perfect” game. Anything less than “perfect” it will be a bad night for the Birds.

Here is a little interesting tidbit of trivia, since 2011 NDA and Highlands has played each other 3 times in a season in 2011, 2013, and 2019.  ONLY in 2011 has the same team won ALL 3 meetings (which was NDA).  The other 2 years either NDA or Highlands has pulled off a win.

We also don’t have to look far, look at the Boys 9th Region……I think a TON of people were already engraving Ryle as the Champ of that Region and they didn’t even make it to the finals.

At the end of the night we still have to play the game, anything can happen.

GOOD LUCK and LET’S HAVE SOME FUN!  This is where we expected in Mid August (at least I did) to be at, let’s finish this story.

    I can’t wait….

    GO BIRDS!!!!!

The game should be fast paced, it will be interesting to see if Highlands can use their width, speed and back side runs against Bain and Spivey to create chances.
NDA is skilled and keeps their shape well.

I’d definitely say the best two teams in the region are playing for the title.

I would say that Ryle is probably cut from a similar cloth.  Unfortunately, the Birds didn’t see Ryle this season but based on their results I have to assume they play a very similar style.  Staunch defense, great keeper but no offensive firepower to have multiple attacking opportunities. I think @Big Redmentioned this before when Ryle played NDA.

I forget who mentioned it earlier but for one shining moment a team might win a game like this but this strategy I don’t think is a strategy that will go far in a single elimination run which we are heading into.

    Just my opinion….

Only because this got fun do I feel the need to chime in.

There is a difference between trying to possess the ball and move it forward (and failing) and not playing offense.  It goes to my earlier season question as to comparing Beechwood to Ryle. Not one Ryle goal has been from a centerback kicking it as far as they can to have someone go run and get it. (yes, i know because we score so few)

As for the Ryle offense, well the Dixie game managed to take out our #2,3 and 4 scorers......(they will be on crutches until sometime in the spring)

Regionals should be fantastic (please read the sarcasm), we will see how tonight goes.....

Agreed very physical game.  I was surprised they blew the whistle so quick on the handball.  Kaia is an amazing player.  My daughter said “that double scissors she pulled on me was beautiful.  I didn’t have a chance”. Lol. Good luck at Xavier.

    Thank you.

With it being senior night, they moved a couple of the girls up to play more attacking positions (Kaia and Poe) so it made for a different looking game. I think everyone but Keelee enjoyed it being a little more wide open than normal.

The Ryle Holy Cross game ended up being a nail biter.  Ryle went out to a 2-0 lead mid to end of the first half with two goals by Griffin one on a nice drive and the other on a free kick.  Holy Cross junior RyLee Veneman scored on a beautifully placed PK to bring the score to 2-1 at the half.  Veneman tied it up with a score midway through the second half.  Ryle took back the lead with maybe ten minutes later with a long kick by Griffin.  Lots of penalties and three yellow cards given out.  The last yellow card was on the Ryle goalie as she came far out of the box and ran fouled Ivy Hoffman who had a breakaway and only the goalie to beat. There was some controversy as to the goalie being the last defender and shouldn’t have been a red card. It went so quick I’m not sure. Holy Cross had several free kicks in the last few minutes of the game but was unable to convert into goals It was a beautiful night for soccer and a great game.

Agreed, if I were the ref I’d probably have given Keelee a red. Sounds like the 40 yards from goal skewed his decision on the card.

I would have also not played advantage, let Kaia score for Ryle then call it back for an infraction? We probably should’ve had a few more PKs (both teams). Lots of loose arms flying around hitting soccer balls and he only whistled one?

Par for the high school soccer course to me.

Good questions.  I think there are varying viewpoints that all can be valid.  My general answer is, it depends on the situation.  High school is very communal in our area.  The kids, the parents, general spectators come out to watch, and is more often than not a very cool environment to play in front of that you don't get in club soccer.  How was the environment at the Ryle vs. Cooper game?  My guess is packed stands, cheering sections of kids, etc.  It's fun, low stress, and the overall soccer play is not the same as club.

Also, If they weren't playing high school, wouldn't they still be playing a club fall league.  Is there less chance of them getting hurt playing club vs. high school?

I'd say the environment was decent, not the US Youth or ECNL national finals with the sidelines packed but not your typical parents only club game.  The crowd definitely skews younger and more fun.

Fall team here is a mash of 8th grade through senior, so is it better? meh...just different. The chance of injury is always there.

I am all for a trip to Louisville being my furthest game over a trip to Buffalo.

  9. As a parent of girls who play both HS and Club,(and committed to play college) I would love some others view on how they treat HS soccer season.

For mine, its fun...or they try to have fun

Its close to home compared to our club travel

Its with their friends, fellow students get to come watch, etc.

With the Ryle girls team now having 5 (I believe) on crutches due to injury during our season that will not allow them to play club.  Do other parents see HS as important? From some of the coaches demeanor during games...do they see what they are involved in as life changing?

  10. I'll take the Ryle v Cooper game.

First half was back and forth.  Cooper has some speed up top and they are good on the ball.  One cross slid all the way through the box with a couple of swing and misses on it.  Ryle had one off the post on a free kick and a couple other decent chances.

Second half started all Cooper keeping it down on the Ryle end the majority.  Didn't result in any "real" opportunities or Keelee being tested but they maintained the pressure with a few Ryle counters.  About 15 minutes left, Kaia hit one from outside the box to score. After was kind of your typical frantic district minutes of back and forth.

From the negative comments the Cooper Coach had for our girls, they thought we were the more physical team.

For the parent who yelled "Kick her" when our keeper had the ball at her feet waiting for someone to give her a reason to pick it up, Wow, just Wow.... It works better when you pass the ball to your own team not the other's keeper, sorry the Ryle keeper has decent feet?

Ryle holds typically high scoring Dixie to 1 goal to earn the TIE (see above)!  I would have liked to seen this game.  Can anyone provide a bit of color on this match?

    I’ll give you my take.

I’ll start with why I understand the Dixie conundrum. They have the talent/speed to be second/third best in NKY. Their physical play actually to me hinders that.

First half was pretty much controlled by Dixie.  Quite a few attacks making Keelee make some decent saves. Ryle hit the post off a free kick.
Goal one - controversial because the Ryle head coach sees it out of bounds played up in the air and across set down and finished for the goal. AR conference with center for a minute - goal stands. He allowed a lot of contact making the game a bit ugly.

Second half was back and forth - center ref tried to get the contact back under control with I believe 5 yellows on Dixie. Ryle committed maybe 4/5 fouls all game and receiving two yellows (same girl) so ended with 10.
goal two - controversial- ball played through to forward , in the box center back comes over for the clear and gets the ball and the forwards ankle (she did not play again) center points for Dixie kick then AR conference leads to a PK.

Following the tying goal, the game was just back and forth up in the air and not enjoyable unless you like chaos. Ryle hit what looked like the inside of the goal post on our side but treated as outside of the post. Interested to the see the video on that shot.

Again, it's just my opinion from seeing each team one time, and in the context of ranking a top 10, #5 vs. #10...

The strength of both teams is on the defense.  Both have high level goalie play with a solid defensive line and holding midfield.  I'm not sure I can comment on style, but it's more strength of the team and result.  Both teams very stingy in allowing goals, but do not score much themselves.  Beechwood has 6 shutouts and allowed only 1 goal in 3 games.  Ryle has 5 shutouts and allowed only 1 goal twice.  Ryle probably played tougher schedule, but in terms of ranking, look similar to me.

    Thank you

As I said before, Ryle and Beechwood are the same from what I saw.

Obviously ooking forward to this week.  Sacred Heart is undefeated vs. NDA.  Lex Cath looks to be playing well, but I'll lean Highlands in what should be a great game.

South Oldham is not playing in the Lex Cath tournament, but they look to be a top team in the state going 2-0 at Zionsville.  They beat Indy power Brebeuf Jesuit last weekend, and handled Lexington Catholic earlier.

@Big Red OK, I tried my best to read this and understand the thought process behind it, but I can't.

Saying Ryle and Beechwood are "the same".  The same style? The same talent? or are we just going with the same results at the end of the game?

Yes, I'm jaded but a team trying to pass the ball up the field and not getting there and a team who's defense has two plays (long forward or long out of bounds) are in no way the same for a lack of offense.

I have yet to understand Kentucky High School soccer (4 years later), so just looking for some help.
