I give you credit, you stick by your convictions in the face of criticism. This should be an active thread with Beechwood still listed at #3. That was a very good win for Beechwood over one of the top 3A teams in the state and it certainly bolstered your position. It was one of the best wins by a N. Ky. team this season. However, I don't think it will change the views of those who question Beechwood at #3. Ryle has some good wins as well and IMO deserve to be #3 at this point. CCH, Highlands and Ryle are the only teams with better wins than Beechwood's Corbin win. Even after that Corbin win, I would have Beechwood no higher than #4.

Corbin jumped up to 4A this year.

  2. I don’t think Hergott was necessarily “on” last night. Corbin gave them the middle of the field numerous times last night where he hit his 6 or so completions. Otherwise, he struggled to see the field. Numerous occasions he had guys wide open, especially the RB in the flat, but he never took his eyes off his first target. He had the TE wide open in the back of the end zone twice. A couple times he had the entire side of the field to run and he’d cut it to the middle. The kid is talented, he just needs to work on seeing the field.

Beechwood rebounds after getting blown out last week, and beats the number 5 ranked team in 4A, and the response is to tear down the QB?!

The kid threw for over 200 yards and made quite a few big throws on 3rd down to extend drives.

  3. Do you think we are Destined for this Goliath vs. Goliath matchup? These teams were on the same side of the bracket from 2007-2014. Mayfield made the leap from 1A to 2A in 2015 leaving the Beechwood Tigers behind. Now after another 4 year alignment has passed the Beechwood Tigers have made the jump to 2A for the first time ever. These two teams have only played once for the Title and that was in 1995 with Mayfield edging Beechwood 28-27. If not these teams who has a chance to ruin the dream matchup in 2A?

They played in the finals in 2002 as well. Mayfield scored late in the 4th quarter to win 14-7.

  4. I was looking at the baseball stats for the teams left in the tournament and I have to update the stats for Logan Castleman. It is hard to fully appreciate the season this young man is having this year. He is literally in the top 25 in every offensive stat posted by the KHSAA. Here is where he ranks as of this morning:

    Batting Average: #2 at .619

Home Runs: Tied for #21 at 7

Hits: #2 with 60 (1 behind the leader with 20 fewer AB's than most on the leaderboard)

    Doubles: #18 with 14

    Triples: #22 (tie) with 4

Base on Balls: #7 with 31

    Slugging: #2 at 1.062

    RBI: #2 with 57

    Runs: #1 with 68

    Stolen Bases: #11 with 33

On top of that he plays fantastic at shortstop.

In yesterdays round 1 state tournament game, the opposition played a 4 man outfield leaving 2nd base open. Castleman hit every ball right through that hole at second base. Unfortunately for him one hard hit line drive was caught in right center. He had two hits through the hole the defense gave him scoring the tieing run after one of the hits and driving in the winning run with the other hit. He was on base 4 of his 5 AB's (BB, HBP, 2 game changing singles through the shift). Masterful display of hitting by the best hitter in the state.

Logan's offensive stats are off the charts, but he plays a great Centerfield, not Shortstop.

  5. As I mentioned, I have not seen Montgomery Co. and the KHSAA website stats make it hard to conclude who the Indians #1 is. They have 3 pitchers with very similar work loads and pitch counts. My guess would be Jr. Tyler Jacobs at 7-1 with 2 saves will be their horse. ERA is a stellar 1.33, WHIP of 1.21, 59 Ks versus 26 BBs in 58 innings pitched averaging 15.6 pitchs per. Or, it could be another Jr. Seth Adams with an 8-3 record and 6 saves. ERA is 1.82, WHIP of 0.95, 68 Ks and only 16 BBs in 61.2 innings averaging 13.8 pitcher per. Their #3 pitcher is not far behind these two.

On the Beechwood side their workhorse is Jr. Noah Carter with a 12-0 record. ERA of 1.55, WHIP of 1.11, with 64 Ks and 19 BBs over 67.2 innings averaging 15.2 pitches per. Fr. Brett Holladay sports a 7-0 record and 2.03 ERA, WHIP of 1.27 with 23 Ks and 12 BBs over 48.1 innings at 13.3 per.

Is "Noah Carter" a new player?

Otherwise ... I think you mean Carter Noah.

  6. 2004 was a special year and set the table for 2006 but I believe the batting order in 2006 was deeper and made a huge difference in the runs. That Trinity game should have been a victory had the rains not come. Once again Curley was absolutely dominate and no way Trinity comes back on him.

2006 was definitely a better overall team than 2004. I am just stating that Beechwood has had multiple really good teams. 2006 had 2 very good starters in Curley and Chas Moore, and a deep lineup.

I think people forget how good Chris Curley was. He was a complete player. Very good hitter, super smooth infielder, and a true Ace on the mound.

This years team is very good, but they still have work to be done. I'm rooting like heck for them to make a deep post season run. If they do that, then they will be in the conversation for best Beechwood team ever.

  7. The 2004 team won the 9th region and the sectional. They lost in the Final 8 against Trinity. An interesting tidbit from that game, is that Beechwood was leading either 3-1 or 4-1 in the 6th inning. Chris Curley was pitching and he was blowing through Trinity's lineup. The rain came rolling in and the game was delayed until the next day. Curley was not allowed to pitch the next day, and Trinity came back and won the game in extra innings. If the rain never happened, then Beechwood wins that game. Curley was dominant that night, and was in complete control.

  8. Pitchers duel between Beechwood Freshman Brett Holladay and CovCath Senior Evan Stallman. Both pitchers pitched their tails off and Beechwood came out on top after a RBI groundout by Dylan Doverspike in the 4th. Expect to see these teams play again in a couple weeks for a district championship.

By the way, it’s been a while since I’ve been to a game at CovCath but I have to ask, when did the field get in such bad shape? It used to be one of the top fields in the area.

  9. Tigers came out swinging tonight as they looked to avenge their only loss at GABP last Friday night. The atmosphere felt like a Regional game with a very big crowd at Beechwood High. Carter Noah started for Beechwood and Grimme started for Highlands.

Noah struggled at times but the bats of the Tigers had his back. John Odom went 1-2 with two walks and a single. Logan Castleman was 2-4 with HR #7 (grand slam), a 2B and 7 RBI. Senior Ayden shutting was 1-2 with a 2B and an RBI. Senior Devin Johnson was also 2-3 with his 3rd HR and 2 RBI. Both Dylan’s Doverspike and Alex Harper went 2-2 w/ RBI’s.

  10. All A Quarterfinals
