  1. Transplant if you want a cheerleader to pump up the guys, go be that guy.

I’m telling you what I have seen from my perspective. Everyone keeps bringing up the state championships. Go ask those guys, were there games they could have lost?Absolutely, Johnson Central and Lex Cath were games that could have went other way.

I get it you don’t care for staff. Your choice. These boys will do everything within their power to win the game and prepare for the next one.

Now, there is something we can agree on for sure. The kids play their hearts out, and I've yet to see them quit - even when we were getting crushed. Lots of heart here.

  2. I agree to disagree here. The tackling is terrible from this team, and that's due to being soft...not having contact in practice. There is zero emotion or enthusiasm from this coaching staff, which trickles down to the team - and it's been like that.

You can't honestly tell me that this school had so many athletes that they won 7 in a row, and now barely get a winning record - solely due to the talent of the kids? I don't think there's a possible way to make that argument. Is this a State quality team talent wise? No, I do not think it is, but an 8-2 regular season team sure.

  3. S Oldham has gained 2,900 yards this season. Highlands has given up 2,975 yards this season. Boone had 255 yrds rushing against Highlands a couple of weeks ago. No team has had less than 150 yrds rushing against Highlands and most had 200+ yrds including one 410 yrd game.

I don't know who Will is, but I am guessing S Oldham is going to run at will, all night long.

Highlands' offense will need to score quickly and score often to stay in this game. I do wish them well as they represent NKY football.

The run has been the weakness of this defense all year long, BUT, I feel like with Huddleston back in play it will help A LOT. The kid is game changer.

  4. Are you insinuating that they might still do this? Good gracious I hope not. Like I said somewhere else, Grady would of had a few Reps as a Soph. It would of only made him better. Is the Schoellman kid even 100%??? Word around the water cooler that he is back playing this week. What have you heard? I have no skin in the game.

No, I actually have zero inside knowledge on this one. What I meant was that at the start of the season, Grady should have been the starter BUT if not, at least split time with Carl.

Again, I preferred Cramer at QB last year on JV when these two split time and I preferred him in summer workouts and 7v7. Although, he also has made a pretty good receiver out of himself as well!

  5. In truth, I've thought Cramer should have been the starter day one...if not a split time with Schoellman. I've watched both play for years, and Cramer is a better fit for what Highlands tries to do. Carl is a great kid, and not a bad player by any stretch (see the stats for QBs in NKY for proof), I just think Cramer is a better athlete, better arm, better size. As with many things in HS football, there is more in play here.

  6. Cramer should have been the starter, and at least got reps as a sophomore at QB last year. I’ve said it for two years. He is a prototypical QB. 6’4” 190-200. Cannon for an arm and poised. He looked great.

And Huddy is what we have missed through most of the year with his injuries. He is one hell of a ball player.

  7. Not to derail the thread, but the only thing that needs work in Ohio is to separate the publics and privates/open-enrollment schools come playoff time. It makes no sense having teams play each other with two different sets of rules in regards to how they got the athletes that wear their uniforms.

Once that problem is fixed, all will be well.

PS: The GMC has 10 teams. We actually have 4 teams in the playoffs this year.

That's a massive improvement from when I played. I thought they expanded the league further in the last 5-10 years, but I was wrong.

  8. Moeller made it at 4-6 and Elder missed out by the smallest of margins to Fairfield. Ohio needs a better system.

I played high school football in Ohio, and I agree here. The system needs work. Not when I played, but a few years after my alma mater went 9-1 and missed the playoffs. Blew out most teams on the schedule too.

The GCL teams tend to get in with worse records because they play better competition out of their league...which is 4 teams. The GMC, for example, has like 11 or 12 teams in it now so they spend the majority of the season beating up on each other and one or two teams make the playoffs. Just not a great system.

  9. I won't make it tonight, unfortunately, but I'll be keeping an eye on the update thread. Thanks to everyone that can contribute to it!

Also, I think if this ends up as a losing season, the coaching position should be looked at. That doesn't mean I say the coaches are out, just that it should be looked at closer. This team was on the cusp of beating SK (outplayed them for sure), and lost against Lex Cath in the last possession. They can't close when necessary (or hold when necessary, however you look at it). That seems more of a coaching issue than a talent issue, IMHO.

    GO BIRDS!

  10. Outside the fact that they are a veer team and don't pass, I know nothing about them.

With that said, with Huddy in the lineup, I really feel like the Birds will be able to stack the box and run man coverage in the secondary to put a stop to that veer. Birds by 28 (assuming they run Veneman deep more than 3x).

  11. Casey is a quality RB, and a quality kid. He always seems to have great games against HHS. I don't know if he is the best we will see this year, but he is top two or three for sure.

Unfortunately for my Birds, this one gets ugly I think by the start of Q4 with a running clock. Huddy helps the run, but I don't see us stopping them on the ground. If they throw the ball enough, HHS will get a few picks.

Disclaimer: I predicted a running clock in the third for the SK game as well, and we should have won that game.

  12. If you think that Wilson didn't make a MASSIVE difference in that SK game, you're either biased against the kid for some reason, or you didn't see the game at all.

The sophomore RB's didn't do anything in that game at all. The same line was blocking. Without Wilson, we would have lost that game by halftime. It was a stud performance. Obviously, take out the line and NO running back gets yards, but you can't sit here and tell me that the RB playing didn't make a huge difference when the same line was blocking for all 3.
