I dis-agree with the rankings a little bit personally. I like John Hardin at 1 but then I like Elizabethtown and LaRue County as a toss up for 2 & 3 followed by Adair County and Taylor County as a toss up for 4 & 5. As for players, Harmon is the best player in the region but understand why Pearson is listed as #1 to start the season.

The players obviously are, I am not sure about the teams. I have to think the teams listed are this years edition, no way that going into last season South Oldham was projected 6th entering the season. Either way it is a joke that the most highly anticipated preview magazine in the state of Kentucky makes blunders like this in multiple regions. Many people across the state buy the magazine solely for the high school basketball preview then they produce a preview with multiple teams and players in each region from the 16-17 season.

Looking at the 8th region it is messed up as well. Preview has Joe Griffin as the 2nd best player in the region which he is now at Louisville and Dominique Turner the 4th best player in the region and he graduated as well.

Look at the new edition of the Cats Pause last night, I don't know the whole state in and out but do the 4th region. The glitches or errors regarding 4th region, one picture in the book is Scott High coach and is captioned as D G Sherrill. Then the whole 4th region team preview, the top 10 has to be the order for the 2016-2017 season, it is the same exact top 10 as last year preview with Franklin simpson 2 and Russellville 3. Zero chance either are top 2-3 going into season with Clinton co 4 and they lost 5 of top 6 kids. I think it is time the Cats Pause hire one person to cover the whole state and do the preview rather than local. Guys submitting the previews then the nonchalant effort of the mistakes, how that team mistake happen is beyond me.

The point guard for Taylor County last year was the best player in the regional tournament. He single handily willed them to a win against Bardstown in that 4th quarter. Scoring 80 a game in high school is a lot, only team in the 5th i seeing able to put up those type of numbers is John Hardin. The Bulldogs have three guys capable of scoring 20-25 a night plus enough garbage men around them to add bonus points.

I don't know enough about Adair County to know what they emphasize one way or another. I was referring more to the fact that you said LaVar Ball brand of basketball doesn't win championship. I was making the point of yes they did have D1 talent but the D1 talent was developed by LaVar and his brand of basketball and electing to send them to a public high school with no tradition. If you are good enough at your brand of basketball, football, tiddlie winks etc you can championships.

LaVar Ball's kind of ball went undefeated and was the #1 team in the nation for high school basketball at a program which had no tradition until his sons and their style of ball arrived. In fact, all three of his sons have division one scholarships to UCLA and one is making millions to play basketball coming up in LaVar Ball's style of ball. There is more than one way to skin a cat and more than one way to win a basketball game. Can win 35-30 or 95-90, regardless doesn't matter as long as you win.

I really like Eizabethtown team his season. I think this is the year the Panthers return to the regional tournament. I personally think Harding had a chance to be in the conversation for top player in the region with Pearson and Harmon. He has improved his shot a ton this off season.

I seen Adair play four times last season (at Elizabethtown and the three region games at Central Hardin) and I never thought the defense was that bad. By no means was it the best but not worse and numbers back it up. While leading region in scoring at 79.6 ppg they gave up only 57.3 ppg, of teams that made regional tournament only one was less in allowed ppg was LaRue County. Adair and North Hardin were essentially the same while Adair averaged more possessions per game presumably than the rest due to a higher ppg average. North Hardin allowed 57 ppg John Hardin allowed 60.1 ppg Bardstown allowed 59.3 ppg Taylor County allowed 65.1 ppg Nelson County allowed 59.4 ppg LaRue County allowed 53.8 ppg Caverna allowed 74.6 ppg

Don't believe they had anyone much over 6'3 or 6'4 last season. Taylor County won the region and didn't have anyone over 6'1 when Gaines was out.

I think the new addition will have to be pretty good to equal M.J. Embree from last year, he was really good for them and played alongside Goode. Adkins could possibly be their version of Embree and the new addition be a bonus. Only other starter they lose was Cameron Dawson, he will be replaced by freshman Jeremiah Belton at the point guard position. Derek Goode had a monster junior year but an injury plagued senior season for the Hawks and his shooting will be missed.

And that was the same final four as last season in the 5th region. I am willing to bet that isn't the final four this year for multiple reasons.
