  1. Stephenson is only 25 lets not act like hes some washed up vet. He had a 3.30 ERA 11 starts in the 2nd half of last year.

Last 10 starts in AAA have been excellent. 7-2, 2.28 ERA. He’s struck out 73 and walked 26. Going 6 innings or better in 7 of 10 starts. He's kept his walks down which has been his biggest issue. He's earned this, lets hope it's not just one start. Would be nice to see him finish out the year strong and hopefully he makes a leap next year.

Robert Stephenson will start the #Reds' series finale against the Mets tomorrow afternoon. In seven starts since June 25 with the Triple-A @LouisvilleBats, Stephenson is 6-0 with a 1.23 ERA and 55 K. He leads the IL in ERA, WHIP (0.91) and opponent average (.152) in that span.

Hope you're right, his numbers are impressive but he is still walking too many, over 4.5 per 9 innings, almost as many as he has allowed hits, 6 per 9 innings. That is kind of odd.

  2. What Reds miss in Devin Duvall, is his defense. Here in the 2nd game tonight, Preston Tucker has thrown to an unmanned base, and also air-mailed a cut off man on a throw home. Yes, the backup was able to get it, but still... Between what Ervin and he have done out there, good grief.

I'm sorry but who is Devin Duvall?

  3. I am just a casual fan, and don't know all of the intricacies of the business side of baseball, BUT what I do know is that the only two Reds I would pay to go see play are Billy Hamilton and Scooter Gennett.

Dealing guys who put asses in seats seems like bad business to me.

We are several years into this re-build (Sellout) and still in last place, ten games under .500.

Personally, I don't think trading Billy or Scooter changes that a lot right now.

I wouldn't trade Scooter either but I'm tired of waiting around for Billy to learn how to bunt and hit the ball on the ground. Heck he's not really stealing bases at the same rate anymore. About all he can do is play defense otherwise he wouldn't be batting 9th.

  4. I keep hearing talk about trading Raisel Iglesias. I hear people saying the Reds should trade Iglesias. Why? He is a proven, excellent closer. He is under Reds control for I believe 3 more years. If the Reds trade Iglesias, it says to me that the Reds don't think they will be able to compete for the playoffs for the next three years, the time they have control of Iglesias. If the Reds think they can compete in the next three years they should keep Iglesias.

    Agree 100%

  5. I assume you are not saying the Reds will be hard to watch just because Duvall was traded. Duvall is not worth what he is going to get in arbitration next spring.

On the prospects. Sims was a first round draft pick who has had success. There is definitely potential with him. The other two guys are surplus rolls of the dice. Anything the Reds ever get out of them is a bonus.

I agree that Duvall is hard to watch but where has Sims proven anything , the minors?

  6. I'm not sure I understand this move, can someone enlighten me? Looks like a pure money move to me to avoid paying Duvall in arbitration. I doubt that any of these guys they got will ever be on the 25 man unless they are dumping more pitchers today. Tucker and Wisler are both out of options after this year and Tucker is below average defensively. Going to be hard to watch this team the next 2 months.

    Tucker 28 yrs old 2018 - .256/.307/.752 Career - .227/.281/.693

    Wisler 26 yrs old 2018 - 5.40 era IP 26.2 K's 21 Career - 5.27 era IP 324.2 K's 230

    Sims 24 yrs old 2018 - 7.84 era IP 10.1 K's 10 Career - 5.96 era IP 68.0 K's 54

  7. This Reds team is as fundamentally bad as any team I can remember the last few years even going back to the Baker days. Just this week they botched 2 routine rundown plays and tried their best to give the Phillies a chance to win tonight by not securing a force play at 2nd in the 9th. Oh well a win is a win but it didn't have to be that stressful did it?

  8. Not sure there are many true, hard times Reds fans still out there. So this post might never be read. But, Joey is just not Joey this year. He has become a very re-active, defensive hitter, consistently behind in the count and the # of times he's been rung-up is unprecedented in his career. Noticed last night he appeared to be squinting. Could it be that simple a cure????

He, also, has more defensive and baserunning fax paus then what one would expect. Just concerned there is more than just a little funk going on.

Just wait until you start getting the Joey Votto "on base %" discussion, it's coming. I for one agree with you. He is too good a hitter to be taking the pitches he takes and he is looking at a lot of 3rd strikes especially since the break. Hitting around .200 the last 30 days.

  9. Is it just me or does it seem like Homer gets the short end of the “no offense to back him up stick” more than any Reds pitcher since he’s been there. It’s crazy to me how often he seems to pitch pretty well and doesn’t get a win.

Maybe the fact that he has given up 144 ERs in 194 innings since the 2014 season, (6.68 era) might play into how the offense feels when he is on the mound. They probably don't have a lot of confidence in winning with him on the bump.
