  1. Baseball has the same recruiting issue. It's a couple of things IMO:

    1. Game times. Hard for people who work traditional hours to make a 5:00 start.

    2. Perception that the fans are really awful to deal with. That's a lie. Fans are fine.

There may be other reasons but 1 and 2 cover 99%.

Game times are tough for sure.

Fans - some venues would be OK. Where there is clear separation from the fans. i.e. a track around the field. But some of those fields have the fans within a few feet of the sideline. No thanks!

  2. I guess he left because he came across a better situation for him personally. His role on the staff was the head JV coach, running backs coach and most importantly was able to break film down not only on Bird opponents, but on the Birds as well.

    Where'd he go?

I guess the schools website hasn't been updated yet.

  3. Lets not forget CC (Miami, FL. ) was the runner up in the 8A finals that year.

Highlands lost a close one to CC , not forgetting Hoge spent most of the 2nd qtr trying to get medical aid for his ankle. If Hoge had played the whole game, who knows what might have happened. CC's coach was very impressed with that Highlands team ,players. coaches and fans. I enjoyed that game very, very much. Both teams showed great class that day. I hope in the near future that Highlands can get some more out of state games.

I think I still have that game on DVR.

Those CC kids were BIG! Great game.

  4. I appreciate the spirit and the humor. But considering most people at a FB game would flinch if they heard a shotgun blast — especially a drone operator — don't you think actually shooting one down that way would be pretty difficult? Shotgun goes off, drone operator flinches, sending the drone off in another direction at just the right time for the shot to miss.

Finally... A solid reason to bring back the Highlands cannon!

  5. If a family is assessed for financial need, they must show financial documents such as bank statements and tax returns. If the 'secret booster' gave the money before the assessment then, they would receive proportionately less financial aid. If they gave money after the assessment then KHSAA would be aware that the money did not belong to the family.

And either way the IRS would have some pointed questions about the appearance of a large undeclared source of income.

This is putting aside the question of why the 'secret booster' wouldn't donate the money to the financial aid program which is perfectly legal and aboveboard.

In theory: After the assessment, the family would be responsible for $X.

Family "friend" gives them $X to pay the tuition. Tuition is paid.

What power does KHSAA have to compel said family to do anything? They're "investigative powers" are somewhat limited.

Where did you get the money? I saved pop bottles.

No you didn't. Yes I did.

It's not on your bank statements. I kept it under my mattress.

No you didn't. Yes I did.

    OK

IRS is a different situation. KHSAA could report their allegations to the IRS. It's up to the IRS whether or not they investigate. The KHSAA would have not be privy to any action taken or not taken by them.

    The question still stands...

What real power does the KHSAA have to prove it?

  6. No. For any school that's part of the KHSAA the tuition must be paid by an immediate family member.

A – Yes. The Kentucky High School Athletic Association, an organization we voluntarily belong to, has four rules that apply to tuition, financial aid and scholarships. First, we must use an agency approved by the KHSAA to determine financial need. Second, a student playing a KHSAA sport may not receive aid greater than their “demonstrated need.” Third, only an immediate family member may pay the student’s tuition. Finally, if a student playing a KHSAA sport receives a merit scholarship, the amount cannot exceed 25 percent of the tuition."

So some secret booster gives the "immediate family member" the cash, prepaid visa, etc etc etc.

What power does KHSAA have to attempt to prove where money came from?

i.e. require said family member to show bank statements(?)

I would not think that they have any.
