  1. I haven't seen Chandler Starks suiting up in any Freshmen tourney games, nor have I seen Conner use Hamilton or Campbell in their Freshmen Tourney games. To each their own, I guess.

Boyd doesn’t play much on varsity. JV yes but I think he has played freshman all year. BW is a small school so they don’t have a ton of kids to choose. Plus the more kids play the better in my opinion. Boyd is a good player but it’s not like he is some super stud that only plays freshman in certain games. I think he has actually played better in JV games than he has in freshman games.

  2. I’d bet a lot of money Starks is a D1 player and I think McHale has a shot if he keeps developing and his body continues to mature. So maybe your point is there for the senior class

Starks will be a very good high school player but I don’t think he will translate to D1. I don’t think he will get much taller than he is now and he is not athletic enough to be a small forward or shooting guard. I have said for a while he should play football. His prospects down the road will be better in football than in basketball in my opinion. He would be a beast of a tight end.

  3. So how does that work game wise, do they have to split the number of games they can play for the year between the two teams?

Not really sure. I think they have games on the same day with teams that have two teams. I know Mason and Moeller have two teams. The Blue team plays all the GCL schools and the white team will play GCL teams who have two teams and then other teams around the area outside the GCL. Moeller does the same. St X plays Cov Cath later in the year but not sure which team they will send. Beechwood also will play one of the Moeller teams.

  4. Mayfield

    Jayden Stinson- 12-15-188 2TD 1 INT

Kylan Galbreath rushed 17 times for 252 yards

Kade Neely caught 5 passes for 133 yards and 2 TD

    Beechwood

    Cameron Hergott 8-24 for 95 yards 1 TD, 1INT

Avery Courtney rushed 7 times for 33 yards

Parker Mason caught 4 passes for 65 yards, TD

I don’t think Stinson was that accurate, he seemed to miss a lot, but the running game for Mayfield was a killer for Beechwood. They just couldn’t stop it.

  5. Mayfield is battle tested, always plays a great schedule, including a good team out of Memphis, Paducah Tilghman, McCracken County, and Madisonville North-Hopkins. All very good teams.

I would say those are decent teams but not on the same level as teams BW has played. I will stick to BW being the best team they will have played. I believe BW will also be the most well coached team they will have played. This game could go either way.

  6. It would be a bonus if Beechwood could get pressure on the QB, but they have not done that much this year and Mayfield doesn’t seem to allow much pressure on the QB. It’s going to be really tough for Beechwood but the defense has been stingy lately against the run and they do seem to cover well. I definitely think Beechwood can put up a lot of points, so if they can limit the big play and force a couple of turnovers, they can pull the upset.

  7. Expected this score, and honestly surprised it wasn’t worse. Nothing against WC but Beechwood I think was just that much better talent wise. Now we have to really buckle down and focus. It’ll be a crazy upset to beat Mayfield but anything is possible.

I agree. I know Noel Rash has struggled with Mayfield, has Beechwood ever beat Mayfield?

  8. I don't know whether it would or wouldn't. But in most years I'd say SK can get the W in that game. They had a young team, first time I ever recall them having a freshman QB start. Not one of their better teams but they improved a lot over the course of the season.

They were not young. The QB was young but everyone else was all pretty much seniors. They lose a lot on the o line, the running back their top receivers and their best d linemen, linebackers and safety.

  9. Interested in seeing West Carter next week. Looks to be a stiff challenge for Beechwood. They seem to have a very strong defense and according to stats, unreal against the pass. Are the stats on KHSAA correct? Says they have only allowed 476 passing yards all year and allowed 0 last night. That seems like it can’t be right. If they are that good against the pass, it will be an interesting game because Beechwood’s offense moves the ball better by the pass than the run for the most part.

  10. The seeding should’ve been for the final 4 teams.

The way the current format is done doesn’t allow for the best teams to play in the semis for the most part. It may not be every year but this year it does. For example South Warren and Scott County may be two of the top 4 teams in 5a but they are out in the 2nd round. Lexington Christian may be one of the two best teams in 2a but they are out on the 2nd round. And you still have a ton of travel in round 3 and 4.

  11. I think for KY it is best to have 3 classes. You can take 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 and you would not only save money but usually crown the best teams. If you want 4, still do the same and have teams opt to play in that or have another playoff after state, with the highest seeded team getting a bye.

  12. Here's a likely scenario:

    A. Round 3

    Districts 1-4

    -(1st RPI v 4th RPI): Edmonson County at LCA/Somerset

-(2nd RPI v 3rd RPI): Owensboro Catholic at Mayfield

    Districts 5-8

-(1st RPI v 4th RPI): Walton Verona at Breathitt County

-(2nd RPI v 3rd RPI): West Carter at Beechwood

    B. Round 4 - Seeding no longer by district. Now based on RPI of remaining teams

    -(1st RPI v 4th RPI): Beechwood at LCA/Somerset

-(2nd RPI v 3rd RPI): Breathitt County at Mayfield

I believe that if Somerset were to beat LCA and Beechwood and Mayfield both win, BW will be at Mayfield because Mayfield would be the highest RPI team remaining. If LCA beats Somerset and BW and Mayfield win, then BW will be at LCA and Mayfield would host Breathitt if the seeds hold.

  13. I would say lack of talent at skill positions. The next couple classes coming in have some good talent and I would not scream for changes just yet.

I don’t know much about the Ryle history but it seems like they have been strong at the lower levels, middle school and freshman, for a long time, but it doesn’t seem to translate to success at the varsity level. If I remember correct the last couple of senior classes, last year and this year, were pretty strong when they got to Ryle. If that is correct, there seems to be a disconnect along the way.

  14. The only things I predicted differently were the following:

    * Edmondson winning the 3rd

    * Lexington Christian winning the 4th (what a game!)

    * Lloyd Memorial defeating Newport this week in the 6th

    * Shelby Valley winning the 8th

I think West Carter will beat Shelby Valley. They beat SV 33-7 and WC played a tougher schedule. West Carter has only allowed 377 yards passing on the year. They have a guy with 10 sacks and guy with 5 ints. That’s pretty solid.

  15. With this win over SK, Little Miami leap frogs into the Ohio playoffs just past Winton Woods. Winton Woods is a top 5 team in Cincy and finish 6-3. They had a team back out to play them, thus hurting them by not playing a tenth game this year.

Winton Woods three losses were to Elder, Cleveland St. Ed’s and Christian Brothers out of Missouri. Three really good teams and they get left out of the playoffs. Had they scheduled two wins and only played 1 of those teams, who are all really good, they would have made the playoffs. Kind of dumb.

  16. There are no brackets in round 4. The KHSAA now uses their new RPI to seed teams in round 4. If Beechwood makes it to round 4 and all the top RPI teams keep winning, Beechwood will face the top seed in the state who will be Lexington Christian. They beat Paintsville 35-7 tonight.

Beechwood has work to do to get there. Due to tonight's loss they will now have to travel to Breathitt County if they get to round 3.

    Ok thanks.
