  1. THIS MAY BE A LONG RANT SO BE PREPARED........ :-)

I'm a big stat guy, always have been. I never realy paid much attention to defensive stats because I'm an offensive guy. Now that my son is playing and he plays defense, I've been looking at them more and more. I've always did stats so I know enough to make me dangerous. I know that on any given play there can ONLY be 1 solo tackle or 2 Assisted tackle. This is universal from high school on up. Every stat program, including HUDL, only allows this.

So, looking over MAXPREPS stats for the state of kentucky I came across this gem.

The leading tackler in Kentucky has 32 solo tackles in 2 games. So i decide to check out his and his teammates stats.

So looking at the box score for their first game they lost 27-8. The team they played ONLY ran 52 total plays. They scored on 4 of those plays so that leaves 48 plays that there could be a tackle. They do not have the passing stats but lets just assume he did not have any incompletions, highly unlikey but what the heck, so there are 48 plays left to make a tackle. They did punt the ball 6 times and kick off twice so that makes 56 times there could be a tackle. The coach has entered into their official stats that his team has 71 solo tackles for that game. Lets repeat that, 71 SOLO tackles on 56 PLAYS??????????

The second game was just as bad, 54 plays, not including however many incompletes the QB threw, and his team has 53 solo tackles.

Puts a damper on his kids stats because they are not beleivable. So in 2 games EVERY tackle has been a solo and no assists.

OK, rant over. Sorry so long. :-)

  2. Oldham's defense kept their offense in check. They only gave up 1 first down the first half. Oldham was able to score first in the second quarter after (SO) Jacob Ratliff recovered a fumble a the North 17. 5 plays later (SR) Tommy Grogan punched it on from 3 yards out. Norths next possession (SR) Jared Grantz intercepted the pass and returned it to the north 30. 5 plays latter (JR) Erix Edwards connects with (SR) Trey Tucker for a 21 yard TD with only 20 seconds left on the clock. Great defense by Oldham County. Tough game next week.

  3. Oldham County had a few bright spots in the loss. I think they may have found some young diamonds in the ruff. Freshman QB Parker Caudill - 2-3 18 yards 1 TOUCHDOWN, 2 carries, 7 yards. Ran the offense very well, OC's 3 best drives of the night. On defense, Jacob Ratliff, Sophomore Outside LB - 12 Total Tackles, 1 interception, 1 Pass defended, 1 Tackle for Loss and 1 Forced Fumble. Now on to play 0-1 North Oldham.

  4. The schedule for tonight:

    Varsity Quarters 1 & 2

    JV Quarter 3

    Freshman Quarter 4

Special teams are not live on the return. Just snap, kick, field the ball, start from there.

I will update the thread tonight after the scrimmage. Hope to provide a few highlights from the game also.

  5. Good Read:

Despite the difficult season, OCHS head coach Mike Shatzer said100 student-athletes showed up to play football this season, a sign that the program is doing something right.

“I’ll say this about our kids, they worked hard all season, and they didn’t give up. The chips were down against us a lot of times, but you do what you have to do to make it work. I think we had fun at times,” Shatzer said. “No one likes to lose. We want to get rid of that taste in our mouths.”

Shatzer said the team is still developing, but had great spring practices and offseason conditioning programs.

A difficult schedule from a year ago doesn’t lighten up as OCHS plays the same opponents with the sites flipping. OCHS hosts 6-A Ballard in the season opener on Aug. 19 before traveling to rivals North Oldham and Shelby County in consecutive weeks.

“Our program doesn’t take a break any week this year,” Shatzer said.

For the first two games of the year, OCHS will be without last year’s starting quarterback Ammon Harding, who is suspended based on an administrative decision made by the coaching staff and school officials. Junior quarterback Erix Edwards will most likely take the reins after starting for the junior varsity team a year ago.

  6. So Oldham County got theirs in last week and tested out Monday. It is nice how it works. Films directly to the ipad and streams automatically to the devices on the sideline (up to 6). That way when the O or D comes off the field the coach has the Video in hand to make adjustments. WOW, how times have changed. I know Pete from Fern Creek tested theirs out yesterday and He also said it was a success. What's everyone opinion on it?

  7. It's been re-worked a bit recently:

    100 degrees (above 99

    degrees) to 104 degrees

    Heat Index

     All sports

 Water should always be available and athletes should be able to take in as much water as

    they desire.

 Mandatory water breaks every 30 minutes for 10 minutes in duration to allow for hydration

    as a group

 Have towels with ice for cooling of athletes as needed

 Watch/monitor athletes carefully for necessary action.

 Alter uniform by removing items if possible and permissible by rules

 Allow for changes to dry t-shirts and shorts by athletes at defined intervals.

 Reduce time of outside activity as well as indoor activity if air conditioning is unavailable.

 Postpone practice to later in day.

 Contact sports and activities with additional required protective equipment

 If helmets of other protective requirement are required to be worn by rule or normal

practice, suspend practice or competition immediately

 For sports that do not have mandatory protective equipment, reduce time of outside activity and

consider postponing practice to later in the day.

 Re-check temperature and humidity every 30 minutes to monitor for changes in Heat Index.

From 100 degrees upward if extra protective equipment is required then activity has to be suspended, if it can be removed then play can continue so if they opt to play 7 on 7 without helmets they could.

At 104.1 all activity has to stop.

They probably need to update the KHSAA website since I copied and pasted from there, lol

  8. From KHSAA website

    100 - 105 heat index:

 Provide ample amounts of water. This

means that water should always be

available and athletes should be able to

take in as much water as they desire.

 Mandatory water breaks every 30 minutes

    for 10 minutes in duration

     Ice-down towels for cooling

     Watch/monitor athletes carefully for

    necessary action.

 Alter uniform by removing items if possible

 Allow for changes to dry t-shirts and

    shorts.

 Reduce time of outside activity as well as

indoor activity if air conditioning is

    unavailable.

 Postpone practice to later in day.

 Contact sports and activities with additional

    equipment

 Helmets and other possible equipment

removed if not involved in contact or

necessary for safety. If necessary for

    safety, suspend activity.

     Re-check temperature and humidity every 30

minutes to monitor for increased Heat Index.

So basically since the 7on7 does not last longer than 30 minutes and only the 7 players on the field has to have their helmets on, it seems as though as long as it does not get above 106 degrees they should be fine. Also want to put out that this is just my opinion and I don't know much besides what I read, lol.
