  1. I expect them to be very good and in contention again. They bring back Brady Atwell and a lot on defense with a very talented 8th grade class who just won State. Expect Atwell and Vince Carrico to be a load on both sides of the ball and Rising Juniors Miles Edge and Cam James to play bigger roles on the offensive side.

  2. I think your Top 6 are definitely the right teams and as someone mentioned their could be a lot more roster moves. Mayfield benefited from Biggers transferring in last year and who knows who will show up at LCA. O Cath is losing a little more than Beechwood but should be pretty stout so those two make sense. I’d probably have Murray ahead of Somerset but Somerset has a much easier path to advance further in playoffs.

  3. I got to make this game. At no point during this game did it ever feel like Green County would get a stop. They simply didn’t have the athletes to slow down the Owensboro Catholic offense even with they Seymour kid playing who was ejected last week. Green put together a nice first drive and got right inside the red zone before Tut Carrico just completely took the ball away from #4 from Green. After that the Aces defense tightened up and didn’t allow another first down until it was 50-0.

Green didn’t punt on 3 consecutive possessions in their territory and gave the Catholic offense short field all night. #4 for Green was tough and run hard all night. He was a solid player but Green looked outmatched about everywhere else.

I wouldn’t put Catholic as the favorite especially with what Mayfield did last night. And of course the 3 time defending champ Beechwood still hanging around, but if they can get past a very good Somerset team who is playing their best football. However if the Aces do make it they will be an extremely tough out for whoever wins that other semi final game.

I don't see a path to Green winning. They are not very good considering their schedule. Catholic would kill Taylor Co and Hart Co. If I was a Catholic fan I would just stay home or in a deer stand.

This is spoken like a true Owensboro fan. Owensboro Catholic fans don’t get on here and talk like that.

If that kid is out that is a huge loss for Green. I thought I heard or read somewhere you can’t appeal ejections anymore. We will see.

As a O Cath fan I hope we get a big crowd out for this game. This is for a Regional Championship against a somewhat unfamiliar opponent and these kids deserve the support.

  5. 8/18 Apollo

    8/25 at Daviess Co.

    9/1 Greenwood

    9/8 at Owensboro

    9/15 Henderson Co.

    9/22 at Crittenden Co.

    9/29 at Todd Co.

    10/13 Edmonson Co.

    10/20 Ft. Campbell

    10/27 at North Hardin

The Aces return a lot of production and one of the best QB's in the Class of 25' in Brady Atwell. Do they have enough to compete with Mayfield and LCA in the West who both benefited from some transfers this offseason?

  6. Mayfield is a little more athletic in the secondary than Owensboro Catholic and I think that will be key for Mayfield. If Mayfield doesn’t turn the ball over they win here. If they turn the ball over and keep giving LCA some extra possessions this could be another instant classic just like Ocath and LCA was. As much as I’d like to pick LCA here since they beat my Aces, I’m going with Mayfield 35-27. Too long roads trips in a row and simply put Mayfield will not lose a home game in November, especially with the year that community has had.

Ok I see now after looking at khsaa scoreboard.  Christian self reported playing someone eniligible in the 1st game forfeiting their win to them. that's weird wonder what happened.

Apparently there were a few other self reported ineligible players this week that caused forfeits from earlier games. Either way Mayfield got a little bump and if everyone wins out tonight it will be interesting to see how everything shakes out. Whether you love or hate the RPI it has definitely made tonight a lot more interesting and must win scenarios for some teams.

Would both teams not receive the same amount of points from winning seeing as they both will be facing 2A competition?

Next week yes but then they both play up against Madisonville and Elizabethtown and could get class bumps to their Winning %. Then you have to take in consideration of your opponents Winning % and Opponents Opponents Winning %. A lot of moving parts in the RPI.

  9. Both teams either lost early or were missing a few key players. Really gritty performance from Owensboro Catholic after a heart breaking loss last week to Union County. This was an amazing atmosphere and high school football game to watch in person. Good thing for Owensboro they get to get in their district play and will be able hopefully work on opening up the offense against lesser competition. For OC, the next two games will be extremely tough road games: at CAL who looks like the best team in 3A and at at Hancock County who has a really good team this year and is a tough place to play.

OC is a good team and I think Atwell was hobbled a tad during game.  Love Reid Clark’s game for OC.  I think his brother was QB for Apollo a few years ago.  It looks like he had 3 catches and a TD, interception and a few tackles.  1st game he had 5 for 108 and a TD.  They will be a load to beat in November.

Reid Clark didn't play in the 2nd half and that was a huge blow to OC on both offense and defense. Atwell was definitely limited due to cramps or some type of injury in the 2nd half but give credit to Daviess defense for making plays and taking advantage and forcing a ton of turnovers to make the score look worse than it actually was.Daviess County is a solid football team, even without their QB from last year they have a lot of guys back from a team that went to the Regional Championship in 6A. Renfrow is probably one of more underrated players especially on this side of the state. Both of these teams could have some promising runs in November if they stay healthy.

  11. It was a good start to the Brady Atwell era for Owensboro Catholic. Atwell had around 250 passing yards with 3 TDs and close to 100 yards rushing in the first half. Cramps limited to Atwell to only a few plays in the second half as that didn't matter much as OC put a running clock on Apollo on the first play of the 4th quarter.

Despite having more turnovers and more penalty yards, Owensboro Catholic was the much more complete team last night as they had 6 different players score TDs and limited Apollo's playmakers to only score until the last minute of the game when Apollo tacked on the last TD. Bright spot for Apollo would have to be #6 their RB and #9 on the defensive line.

If your a Mayfield fan, you have to be excited, in 2019 it was the largest rebuild in 20+ years and this year the Cards made big strides but everyone was pretty sure the final 4 was the likely ceiling.  With the returning players the Cards should be the juggernaut of old. The steady improvement of Sophmore QB Cartwright was significant this year and if he contines to improve the Cards will have the other pieces of the puzzle needed.  The recieving corps should be outstanding with Stephenson and Jackson back who both had great seasons this year and Starks back at running back is going to be huge.  Having all state linebacker Rogers back from his injury on defense is huge and will anchor the best linbacking core Mayfield has had in some time.  I looked over the returning players and stats for LCA and Beechwood.   LCA lost 6 on defense and 7 on offense while Beechwood lost 5 on offense and 6 on defense.  Im guessing the QB spot will be the telling sopt for Beechwood next year and it looks like the replacement will be young.

It will be interesting to see what Murray looks like next year.  The new head coach Bowling has a handful of state titles in Tennessee and upset Mayfield this year.

Just curious how many of these Mayfield kids reclassified or repeated. I thought that the QB was a Sophmore last year too and it fills like Rogers has been there forever.
