  1. Believe it. I've seen it 3 years in a row now. His system spreads the floor and simply gets open looks for his team throughout the game. Watching their consistency of execution, you wouldn't know if they were up 15 or down 15 without a scoreboard. Even in the Manual blowout, they got plenty of looks. They just didn't knock them down and it got away from them. All the players are open floor players and somewhat similar in skill set this year...maybe they are missing the knockdown shooter. I can see why more individually successful players might get frustrated in that system...they play a true team system and don't seem to cater to anything based on their personnel. Some could consider that a negative....including me.... but fun to watch. Manual has more talent 1-7, and one particular special player, but they don't know who they are yet. 7th region is in a league of their own. Oh, if anyone has the clip of Suttons dunk in the 3rd qtr...please post it. Filthy, filthy stuff.

  2. Matt Rose is the best "all-around" player in the state this year which is why I believe he should be Mr. Basketball. At 6'7" and 200 lbs., he is equally adept at playing on the perimeter or with his back to the basket. He plays the 2 thru 5 positions very well and has even played the point for Lexington Christian at times on a limited basis this year. He can guard the small guys on the perimeter and he can also catch the lob and finish with a dunk. He is a better shooter than the bigs and he rebounds better than the guards.

He does not always have to have the ball in his hands to be effective and he has the size for rebounding that Justice and Bolden lack. While both are great shooters, Rose is quicker and has more athletic ability than McDonald. He is a much better and more consistent shooter than Sutton, Perry or Matlock. He is a legit 3-point weapon playing the 5, unlike Spalding and Holman. Rose also has a greater upside than the others as he will be enrolled and playing basketball in college next summer while still only being 17 years old.

While most of LCA's games are played against teams from Lexington or the 11th Region, LCA has played 2 games so far this year against the teams of other players mentioned as potential Mr. Basketball candidates. In those games, Rose went for 25 & 7 against Trinity and 21 & 8 against Manual, posting better numbers than both Spalding and Sutton.

While his stats are comparable to or better than the other contenders for Mr. Basketball, his versatility is unmatched by any of them, which is why Matt Rose should be Mr. Basketball in Kentucky this year.

Nice Theme. Mrs. Shields gives you a C+

  3. Great thread

I'll go with this crew and take all comers to win today

    G - Weaver - Doss

    G - Perry - Ballard

    G - Harness - Manual

    F - Sutton - Manual

    F - Rose - LCA

    F - Elkins - Boyle

    C - Gaskin - Southwestern

Like coach Dale said.....My team is on the floor

  4. Exactly. Thats why the thread title is ambiguous. The initial post attached to the title is really just his observations about selected players not the top performers in the tourney. Like I said in my post if you are talking about the top performers then Schuh, Ramser and Hawes should replace Elkins, Thieneman and Levitch on his list.

And Dwayne Sutton could have been slotted in the 1 spot! Not a single player in the tournament I would take over him. I don't think many people in attendance would disagree.

    No question....as to tourney performance.

  6. I would still put Trinity at number 1. I have a feeling they will be the hardest team to beat when all the chips are down later in the season.

That's not what the ranking should be imo. It's not who you think has the best chance of winning it all. It is who has earned the right to be called #1 at this time.

I think regardless of ranking, most would agree that any team in the top 10 could beat any other.

    1. Ballard

    2. Knott Co Central

    3. Henderson Co

    4. Trinity

    5. Manual

    6. Taylor Co.

    7. Lex Catholic

    8. Doss

    9. Boyle Co

    10. NCC
