You still have to win. Is coach Cal not a good coach or does he just have talent. I dont know what more Haitz has to do. Not one of her top players has ever left the program. Scherr only glows about her in her interviews. Schwartz has had a great year at Rice University, so Coach Haitz definitely got her prepared and played a key role in developing all of these girls. The other coaches in the 9th voted her COY last year. I would not be surprised if I saw some top colleges asking about her availability once her top tier talent leaves.

Talent is by far the most important factor in winning. Much more important than coaching.

Coaching is what we are talking about. It was suggested shes the best coach in the state.

I've never been at a Ryle practice or sat in the huddle or even really talked basketball with the Ryle coach. With that said I'm having a hard time with the best coach in the state comment. Just this years team she has a McDonald's All-American two additional starters with D1 offers and two 8th graders that more than likely will play pretty high level college ball. You add Dofitt in on that group she's a 1000 point scorer it might be harder to lose than it is to win. Again no idea if she is a good coach or not hard to tell with all that talent.

What's great about the top teams in this region is the great coaching. Scherr and Haitz have been quite a duo. It is easy to trust Ryle when they have possibly the best coach in the state and the best player in the state. Should be a fun 9th region tournament.

Tonight Highlands beat Dixie. They now have wins over Notre Dame and Dixie. Both those teams beat New Cath.

I'm not really a huge Girls basketball follower but enjoy when all Sports are doing well at a school they follow. Don't we all? Hard to believe Highlands couldn't win and win big with the likes of Tara Booth back in the day. Didn't she go to Xavier and become one of the greatest to play at X? Sure Highlands won but in all perspective not like they should have a couple of those years with the players they had. A couple of trips to the sweet 16 in helps with everything.

She is probably the best player to ever come out of NKY granted that does not always make you a good coach but she's pretty good at that as well. She is almost always in the region tournament her teams are always prepared they are always competitive. Never has there been accusations of wrong doing in her program. She's a teacher a mother an all around good person I for one would love for her to coach my daughter. With all of that you would like to see her replaced because you care about ALL sports at Highlands?

Also without a Regional title in that 20 year tenure with some pretty good Squads. That shows you the complacency that Highlands is with that particular sport. It's okay just to be just okay.

So what you're saying is this thing runs much deeper than ODD substitutions & not playing the correct kids at crunch time. You are thinking that Highlands keeps Coach Richey around because they just want to be OK? Just curious do you think keeping her around as been the cause of limited success for the boys as well? Maybe and this is just a thought maybe the school board and the AD at highlands has something against basketball? I'm checking in to these things and will report back once I get to the bottom of this which looks to be a basketball conspiracy in Ft. Thomas. I mean come on no regional championships in 20 years the good people of Ft. Thomas deserve better.

Well they won but only scored 33 or so. My guess would be the staff is up to their old tricks again. ODD substitutions at crunch time would be my guess for the low score.

Maybe NewCath was just better that night. Nah... that's no fun. :laugh:

Yea thats not really an option here on BGP. Has to be a conspiracy or sabotage. No way someone was just better. Something or someone made the Highlands coaches not play the right kids. Dont even gets started on the 3 foul shots. I've put a call in to KHSAA they assured me someone is looking in to this. If anything ODD goes on from this point forward someone will be on double secret probation.

Is there any other way? I missed sports center that night so that was my only option.

After further investigation I've found out that Highlands only shot 3 foul shots. I'm thinking not only the coaching staff but now the refs are in on this odd situation that developed in Newport last night.

I guess you're right they will play again. Just seems odd that seasoned coaches wouldn't have the correct players in at crunch time. I'd like to get to the bottom of this is there something going on in Ft. Thomas? Are the Richey's trying to sabotage Highlands basketball? This whole things seems "odd" the turnovers the missed layups the poor defense seems like a plan to take down the program.

Well to start Highlands had open shots all night NDA gives you all the open looks you want just have to make them. NDA has one shooter thats it everything else is a weak-side put back points off steals from the press or Bradshaw driving left to the basket. NDA very physical which may look like good D but if they are calling fouls it can be a long night for the Pandas.

That's a strange way to see this game.
