  1. I’m thinking we are in complete agreement on his abilities and the level of play of Bellarmine. They would compete in the Horizon.

If Bellarmine had to play a full schedule in the Horizon conference with their current roster they would not be very successful. Bellarmine on a given night can compete with a D1 school but not when every game would be against D1 horizon level competition. NKU, Wright State, Oakland etc. just have more talent, depth and size than Bellamine which takes a toll when you have to play a 16 to 18 game conference schedule.

  2. Just give every school in Kentucky a state championship trophy before every season so everyone feels good. Kentucky can become the only state that proudly boasts "Every basketball team is a state champion here" and not be joking. It takes 1 or 2 good players to be a state contender in high school basketball regardless of Class you play in. The entitled few get their way again!

How does having a 2A tournament or a state going to a class system mean we should give every team in the state a championship trophy. Go watch the 1A tourney and see how hard the kids compete. I dont think anyone is wanting a trophy given to them by having more than 1 class. It will still be very tough to win a state title if you had 3 or 4 classes in Kentucky. The Class system just gives smaller schools a better opportunity. Try being a 1A school in the 6th, 7th or 11th region and see how easy it is to win a region title.

  3. Litkenhous and Cantrall shouldn’t be used at all. If they want to seed they need a seeding committee that consists of tried and true statewide experts on HS basketball in KY. 7 of them so there are never any ties when it comes to making a hard decision.

That being said there should never be seeding for the Sweet 16. The blind draw creates a randomness and excitement that can’t be duplicated. Folks this year are mad that Trinity and Scott County will play in round one. Make sure people lets everyone know in the 11th and 7th Region that they don’t need to play their region tournaments since Trinity and Scott County are scheduled to play in the first round of the Sweet 16.

I disagree, seeding could bring excitement by setting up games where a 16 seeds beats a 1 seed. Also, seeding eliminates 1st round games where top ranked teams play which in my opinion would be good for the tourney. The Litkenhous rating would be fine but I'm OK with a committee.

  4. Seed it Like the NCAA to create upsets and if not better matchups from 2nd rd. on. Eliminate the 30 minutes in between games. Install a practice floor to warm up in and put 15 minutes on the clock. I would do this after round 1. The teams deserve their full time for the first rd excitement/experience. If its a bad game late, lots of fans leave including me to watch NCAAA games. Move the tournament to the YUM Center at least once every three or four years (No Rotating). Get new ideas and maybe new fans at another venue who have never gone. Maybe they will enjoy the experience and want to go to Lexington to watch the following year. Yum Center has practice facilities in it. Maybe this forces Lexington to upgrade the area. Terrible restaurant selections around RUPP. Create something for fans/students in Rupp in between sessions. There is nothing but a bad overpriced food court and expensive shops down stairs. Put some portable goals up and have shooting contest between schools. Come up with something to entertain the kids. Work with participating schools with more money. Teams lose money going to the state. The only way students are going to come is with a bus ride. May not work and the ideas are up for debate. I would just like to see changes at least tried. Society is changing and the tournament needs to change to compete for the fans. I started following KY High School Sports on Twitter. 70's crowds in Louisville were packed. Wasn't as much competition then but there is now.

Totally agree the state tournament needs to change and you have some very good ideas. Seeding would create a chance for upsets in the 1st round and better probability of good match-ups moving forward. Love your idea of having the tourney in Louisville once every three or four years. I think Louisville would do a great job of hosting and the YUM center would be a great venue for the tourney.

  5. Newport has some talent but tonight they played with little focus or enthusiasm. Not sure what offense they were trying to run but 1 pass and then go one on one isnt going to be effective against a team like Cooper. Also, was surprised how they tried to defend Kunkel. Very poor effort from a team that has some good players.

  6. It’s just my opinion the mask bothered him more than the D

I was at the Boone/ CCH games and I believe the mask is bothering him. Also, Kunkle seems to be a bit leg-weary which is understandable given the tough schedule Cooper has played and all he is asked to do. That being said CCH did a great job of team defense on him. He had a difficult time getting the ball in scoring positions and when he did attack the rim CCH challenged all his shots. Both teams are very good on the defensive end when they are locked in.

  7. Kunkel not at 100% or just good defense on him?

    Stats per Cincinnati.com

    Boone County 65, Cooper 63 2OT

    Cooper - Pittman 2 0 4, Kunkel 4 2 10, Ollier 2 4 8, Runion 0 2 2, McNeil 4 8 19, Walters 6 2 16, Shidler 1 0 3, Spencer 0 1 1. Totals: 19 19 63.

    Boone County - Rogers 3 0 7, Haynes 14 10 40, Kyle 0 1 1, Gott 2 2 6, Robbins 3 1 8, Wheeler 1 1 3. Totals: 23 15 65.

    Halftime: C 24-22. 3-pointers: B 4 (Haynes 2, Robbins, Rogers); C 6 (McNeil 3, Walters 2, Shidler).

It was a combination of good defense, foul trouble and I would assume missed practice time that led to a sub-par performance for Kunkle. Boone did a good job of putting pressure on Cooper outside the 3 point line and challenging their shots. Boone has some decent talent but make a lot of mental errors which against top competition make it tough to win. If they can play more under control and bring the same intensity they can compete with most teams in the NKY area.
