  1. Sorry TAC.....but I have to ask KYTN.....I wont go down the whole list, will just pick a few from top to bottom....

Boley doesnt get noticed if she doesnt play AAU?

    Hammonds----same question?

And the kids on the list that went to D-3 and lower schools wouldnt be where they are without AAU?

I guess I am not following the injection about McDonald's All Americans in this conversation?

I'm not saying that those players don't play college ball if they do not play AAU. Clearly. But they definitely do not get the accolades and awards they received without being put out in front of these evaluators.

The injection of McDonald's All-Americans was due to the fact that Derby listed McDonald's All-Americans in his post above.... Follow along.

  2. Jesse - go back down that list and tell us how many would not be exactly where they are if they had not chosen to play for Premier? Boley's success based on Premier? Hammond's success based on Premier? Epps success based on Premier? I understand being proud of alumni but be careful not to overstate the role of AAU in all of them.

    Derby...

Do you know who the McDonald's All-American Committee Members are? They are all very very involved in AAU. They are all AAU people or are closely connected. Regardless of how talented these players are, they would not be picked as All-Americans without being on one of the highest travel circuits.

Last year 18 of the 24 Girls McDonald's All-American's played on the Nike Girls EYBL circuit. (Kentucky Premier had 2 of those). The other 6 were on very high level independent AAU programs. Not one player was a McDonald's All-American that did not play travel ball. Those days are over, there will never be another MCDAA that does not play AAU.

I don't know how you think this stuff works, but it is no different than the boys side. Travel basketball dominates the game, and you will not be seen if you do not play.

PS - Igo is rated way too low. She is much better than 5th in the region.

  3. 2016 Ohio Kentucky All Star Game Girls Box Score

KENTUCKY (71) – Breanna Glover 14, Tamiah Stanford 0, Katie Downey 9, T’Laya Lyvers 4, Whitney Creech 4, Bailey Cummins 3, Madison Faulkner 4, Sydney Anderson 6, Malaka Frank 2, Kaylee Cotton 4, Jynea Harris 2, Kayla Bruner 8, Samantha Fitzgerald 0, Sara Price 5, I’Layah Green 6.

Free Throws: Ohio 19-30; Kentucky 13-22. 3-pointers: Ohio 5 (Hall, Rogers 2, Barrier, Van Kluenen). Kentucky 6 (Glover, Downey, Cummins, Bruner 2, Price).

  4. Bottom line is if you want a successful program, as a coach you better be involved throughout the year including the summer. Hooking into an AAU program for have a pipeline into your program is a must.

Most of the top programs in the 6th and 7th region have this.

I can't agree with this statement completely. If you link with the wrong AAU program it can actually hurt you..

  5. I'm not sure about other people commenting on this thread.. But I personally see THOUSANDS of girls basketball players each year.

And I've seen each player on this list at least 10-15 times each. I have no argument whatsoever with the committe's decision to leave Creech out of the top 10. She is a good player. But she is a low D1 player in terms of talent. All of the other players on this list are talented enough to play at BCS schools and will probably do so.
