  1. It was cold and the boys were wearing their traditional Beechwood game kilt/Braveheart outfits, but for a cheering section that is so proud of itself and gets such rave reviews (rightfully earned), they embarrassed themselves much more than the football team and Coach Wirth did. To leave in the middle of the third quarter when their team could use support the most, just embarrassing.

I can't think of anything that is more demoralizing to kids, than to look up into the stands and see little to no support for them. Watching your fan base get up and walk out during a game is bad enough but watching your fellow student cheering section do it has to be the worst. Keep your heads up Cov Cath. You have a proud tradition and a great group of young men.

  2. Conner was very good last night, well coached and physical. I think the bad officiating hurt them even though the calls went their way because it energized the Cooper fans and motivated the Jags on the field. Cooper's D was solid on those last two drives. Can't wait till they are full strength again!

On the topic of full strength again for Cooper. It's possible both Keller and Kuchar starting linebacker and cornerback will be ready for the South Oldham Game. Kuchar's boot came off Friday night and he did some running today at practice without any pain. He is highly probable for the game. On the downside. We didn't come out of the Conner game injury free. Not going to mention the position or name but one Defensive player came out with a likely concussion.

  3. I'm struggling to find something good to say about the Cooper win tonight. Saying they won ugly is an understatement. Oh wait. We ended up with 3 more points that Conner. Ok, I found something good to say. Other than that. Hats off to Conner. They fought hard and have come a long way since their earlier problems. My Jags were very very lucky to come out with a W.

  4. SK and Camp Co!

    Kidding...Definitely Cooper vs Conner

LOL Sorry RCC9 I couldn't resist. Honestly I think they are both hot tickets this week. Definitely IMO the two games with the most on the line for the four schools playing. Both games contain huge bragging rights for whoever wins. I don't really know which will end up being the BEST game to have been watching when the final scores come in but the anticipation for Friday night in the three counties has to be huge. My advice is to get to either game early if you want a good seat. Good luck to all the kids and hopefully all four teams will walk off the field injury free as we begin the final leg of the schedule into the playoffs.

  5. Conner looks like it's improving but I really like this Cooper team. How are they doing about getting their injured players back?

Last I heard as of Friday night at the game: One player that sat out with a concussion was due to be retested today. Hopefully he will be cleared to play. That still leaves two starters on D that aren't expected back till after the South Oldham game. One of these has an outside chance of being available for the South Oldham game. We won't know that till later in the week though. The only other player that I'm aware is unavailable is our starting safety, who had the broken arm early in the season. I'm not sure of his anticipated return date.

  6. Many folks picked the undefeated Scott who has been putting 40+ points a game up in teams until they faced Cooper. I understand you aren't a fan of Cooper after putting down their AD after they beat Your Ryle team, but Coopers D hasn't given up more than 7 pts in a game besides SK this season.

You say their offense is non existent against 3 teams thus far. Seeing how SK was the only game their offense was non existent so far is like to know what games you are talking about

Ryle was the first game of the year with a brand new offense full of first time starters (only 2 returning starters) yet they still scored double digits against Ryle and every other game this far except SK they have scored over 30 points.

You may want to re think your post.

Not to be picky HB but we were 7-17 agasint the Camels. With that said. I'm guessing a Ryle team that nearly and maybe even should have beaten SK was defeated by the Jags in our opening game isn't a quality team. Don't know but I do know the Jags are 2-2 against 6a teams and in the Camel loss led them into the third quarter. Didn't win that one but the game was in doubt up until the end.

  7. Fewer asylum candidates in Boone Co? (That should do it - you're welcome!!)
Sometimes it's just really hard to say. Gosh I guess I was wrong about this team. Although I am a bit concerned that no one has picked Conner in the poll. Don't like it when conventional wisdom all goes one way.
  8. If the Cooper team that played last night shows up. It's going to be hard for Conner to stop them. We've got a couple more defensive players returning this week but still at least two starting D players out and most likely both still out for the South Oldham game. I'll go with my Jags but based on last night's win over South Oldham, I'm expecting a closer game than what I would have predicted a few weeks ago. Jags 28-21 in a very hard fought game. May both teams walk off the field injury free.

  9. Obviously, it's a really tough season for my beloved Conner Cougars. Hate to see it but...it happens.

It's really easy to show up ready to practice when you know you are going to win or have a darn good chance of winning. Fans are excited. Community excited. You're excited. Easy.

It's TOUGH to show up when you know you're up against it and after giving up 50 the week before.

So I salute EVERY Cougar for showing up and battling. It sucks to go through but there are life lessons to be learned (even though you don't see them when you're 16 or 17).

Let the quitters quit the team. They'll regret it someday. For those that stay...you're part of the fraternity - W/L doesn't matter in the fraternity. We all know what it took.

Well said. I'm personally not a Conner fan but what you said is true. One day the quitters will regret their decision and those that stuck it out will be better for it. Good luck Conner. Even though I don't think you'll be able to hang with S O, I would like nothing better than for those young men to put an upset win in their column and a district loss on S O.

  10. Serious question what was up with Cooper players, are they hurt, injured, grades, what? There had to be 7-10 starters out, what gives?
Cooper had 5 Defensive starters out for the SK game due to injuries. I don't believe it would have made a difference on who won the game. Cooper was overmatched against SK. I don't think the score would have been as bad though. But we will never know. It is what it is.

This week Cooper has 4 Defensive starters that are missing the game against Scott that I know for sure. How much difference that will make, who knows. We'll find out Friday night.

  11. Ugly night for Cooper. Can't say I'm too surprised by the final. SK moved the ball at will. Not unexpected for playing a defense with four or five missing starters. Not taking anything away from SK offense. They owned Cooper tonight. Might have lost another defensive player with a foot injury late in the third quarter. Will know tomorrow after x-rays. I still believe Cooper is a good 5A team. If we can get healthy I believe we can make a run in the District and playoffs.
