With the losses to graduation, the best thing you might say is that they still have Jim Black as head coach. He has a knack for bringing talant around and surprising people. The big question is whether he can find enough talant to fill a back field which is empty, and a defensive backfield.

Williamsburg has a excellant freshman class, they are moving up from the middle school when they had great success. They should fit in well with the returning vets that Coach Herron will field. The Jackets could make some noise this season.

Mike will get Letcher Central on track in 2011. He will build a power house there.
Based on what? Seriously the only place he has won was at Leslie with Tim Couch. Corbin, Christian Co, Powell Co? Never really seemed to get over the hump. Really never built the serious contender.
I think that defense was the serious shortcoming for LCC, their offense was good and I thought their QB was really solid and had a nice arm.

Whitley County fans are not only impossible to please in BB they are even more unrealistic!! Their current coach has been there longer than the last three combined and has has a winning record for three years running, yet becuase parents are too involved and parents of kids who have left the team for various reasons stay involved only to undermine the program. Just crazy.

It was a great day for a football game, Kentucky dominated but had two turnovers scooped and scored and TN had one TD on a short field.
-
Highlands plays Whitley Co at 2:30pm on Thursday.
Stewart and Crowley had big games for Highlands combining for over 30 pts. Crowley hit a big 3 pointer late in the game to put the Birds up by 1 pt.
Obviously Coach Flynn got into the kids at halftime and they responded after being down 7 pts at the half.
Whitley Co beat Perry Co Central in a very close game prior to Highlands playing. Whitley Co doesnt have a kid over 6'2 I heard and they run like 5 guards on the floor and they all can shoot the 3. (Live and die with the 3) is what they said. Stewart should have a big day tomorrow, If Towles was there I am sure he would feast as well.
I don't know who Coach They is but you better have somebody else doing your scouting reports....the Colonels have a couple of 6-4 kids and they can score inside or outside.....they are pretty athletic, maybe not as athletic as Highlands, but they can run or play in the half court.
Should be a great game.....

Good win for McCreary, one they can build on....
-
Colonels move to 4-0 on the season with a convincing win over the Barbourville Tigers. Whitley dominated from the opening tip and never look back with Jordan Akins scoring 21. The Colonels wiped the boards clean not allowing the Tigers many second shots.

I believe, without question, that Coach Wright at South Laurel probably whines and works the officials more than anyone I've ever seen. I've personally witnessed his griping and whining to the officials turn a good basketball game into a whistle fest among the referees. Nearly all of those instances end up with South Laurel gaining the advantage. His tyrades helped keep St. John in many games he should have fouled out of. I guess one could say that if it helps his team win,
he is just a good coach. No, I'm not a Corbin fan, just a basketball fan without an agenda.
I would agree, in fact, his whining kept his team close last night against Whitley. With a 14 point deficit, Wright called TO and did nothing but berate on official who immediatley called two violations on Whitley and two fouls....down to 4 point deficit. Now that is effective "coaching"

I generally think pretty much all the coaches gripe and complain too much, if they spent all that energy coaching, they would be miles ahead.
-
Crazy!!!! I think I would play the cheerleaders before a beat a team like that..just my opinion.
-
They are not the Ty Proffitt/Matt St. John SL Cardinals but they are still a very good team. I don't know if I would call it rebuilding or not. Probably a lot like GRC will be when Zollo and Co. graduate.
Whitley is a pretty solid team, good defensively and offensively

Looks like the Watts and Company hangover is moving from Football to Basketball.....Could be a long season for McCreary.
-
Whitley gets the district win over South Laurel on the road. The Colonels were leading by 19 with just over a minute left in the game. South had one lead in the game at 4-0 then the Colonels got going offensively. South made several runs at the Colonels but they withstood everyone.
-
It was at McCreary Central.
-
Tough loss for the Raiders to start the season.
-
Whitley starts on the right foot with a win at home over Leslie County who defeated them last season on a last second shot. Colonels take that out the equation this year.
-
Corbin had a great season, they should be proud of all the accomplished. Although the sting of the loss tonight hurts now, it should motivate them in the weight room.
Congrats to Corbin
Good Luck to NCC next week!!
