  1. Most D1 or D2 schools aren't remotely interested in high school soccer. If they have already been scouting a club player they might check them out at a high school game. There is no comparison between a top level, hand picked club team and a high school team. Even a good school with a traditionally strong soccer program pales in comparison to a good club team.

  2. Bryce Day was not in the starting lineup for the second straight game and that has an effect on overall play. For the most part it was the regulars playing the entire first half, which ended 3-0 CCH I believe.

On a team with a wealth of talent, it seems there are still players who think the rest of the team has come to watch them dribble through 3-4 defenders. Another issue is shooting from an extreme angle instead of the easy pass/assist to an open teammate who has a much better chance of scoring. If these things aren't fixed in the offensive third, they simply can't beat good teams (see Elder and Trinity).

The passing, technical ability and possession out of the back last night was horrendous. No offense to Boone, but it was good enough to work last night but against other teams, it simply won't happen.

Colonels are without two key players for the Ryle game tomorrow. Combined with what I saw last night, a loss would not be a surprise for me at all.

Why is Bryce not starting? He is easily one of the best players on the team. Even against potentially easier teams he should still be started and taken out when the momentum gets going.

  3. You know this is high school soccer, right?

This soccer forum, especially when certain schools are involved, is message board filled with adults bashing high school kids, living vicariously through them, and against them, so as to achieve a sense of fulfillment, and diminishing efforts and accomplishments of those in a fragile state. It's sad that moderators allow talk like this to continue...

If this forum bothers you so much why do you continue to be part of it? Let the moderators do their job. If you think a comment or thread is over the top, report it. Also, a lot of high school kids aren't as delicate and thin skinned as you might think. Kids that play high level club soccer are used to having their strengths and weaknesses pointed out frequently, and loudly, by their coach and team mates.

  4. I'd say that until you have seen most or all of the teams in N. Ky. play, it's best to hold fire on any 10 best player lists. How would anyone know all of the players? Some of the kids like Bryce Day are obviously going to be on the list which is why I mentioned him. I really have to laugh at the stat quoters though.....Bryce had 6 goals and 5 assists last year. Does that mean he had a bad year or wasn't a good player last year?

Imo it means he was a good player. They faced tough competition, unlike some teams who had kids who scored 16 or 18 goals, and assists in the high 20s. It's all relative...

  5. I made the first half of the CCH v WHS game and happen run into his father whom I've seen reffing club games and asked about this. He's narrowing down his list but it sounds like he has about 4-5 DIs as the focus with a couple DII & DIIIs in the mix still. As three of the WHs players on his club team were out on the pitch it appeared they were doing some fun ribbing during the match. Haven't seen him play since Wisconsin but IMHO he's a good example of how a greater player can make those around him/her better. He sees the full field, knows where it needs to go the next two passes before receiving and is extremely smooth and knows when he can and should just take on defenses with the technical skill to penetrate back lines. I can see why the CCH faithful are excited about their prospects. If they can combine their athleticism with ball control at pace they should be able to advance far come end of season.

Day is a real athlete. He has a great knowledge of the beautiful game, and makes it look effortless at times. I would not be surprised if some colleges are hoping to pick him up for their swim team also, he had a heck of a good high school swim season last year. On top of that he is one of the nicest kids you could meet, and no, I'm not related to him! :)

  6. Carter Kunstek of St. Henry should be in, or close to, the top 10. He is a solid and reliable defender, and has a very good "read" of the game. Very vocal, but usually in a positive way. He's only a sophomore but has been a varsity starter since the start of freshman year.

  7. YC, thanks for the great match analysis. I agree, it's unfair to punish kids by making them run sprints after a game. Especially in warm, humid weather. What does the coach hope to achieve by doing that? Or perhaps it was not a punishment for losing, maybe for some other infraction we don't know about.

  8. I'm surprised at that score line. I would have thought Scott would have no trouble beating SK. The season might get more interesting when Scott has to face tough teams. They've had it pretty easy up until now. Although with so many teams having lost a lot of last year's strong seniors, this could be a "nice" year for some teams...

  9. Hmm... Not sure why such a benign comment has hoops5 so agitated. But I will explain my thinking. The 4-5 boys that play defensively have never played together as a back 4 until this year. It's a hard game to play and then you have 4 trying to play together as one. It's tough. I was not putting any players down at all and if that's the way it was taken that was not the intent. I think these defenders are all good players. Also with Tate Johnson. I said this on a previous post I think he could be considered in the top 10 in the region and am one of his biggest supporters.

So agitated? Did I miss something. All I saw was a question.
