  1. Congrats to Conner! Came in and took care of business. Good halftime adjustments. Cougars moved the ball well in the 2nd half.

After playing in the same district the last few years, I think this is really becoming a great rivalry/match-up for both the kids and the fans - with 3 straight THRILLERS! In Barker/Castleman's senior year it was tied at 20 with 6 minutes to go in the 4th before things fell apart for Scott. Last year it was a 62 yard burst by Pleasant late in 4th and a 2 pt conversion by London that got Scott by 16-15. Friday night was no different - another great thriller in the books!

  2. I have noticed a fair number of mentions regarding the running game for the Eagles and I think someone said they run a 1950's offense. Is there any hope of changing up formations at all moving forward? On average, how often did they pass per game last year? Changing things up a bit may help determine how good this team can be

Over 2700 yards rushing...Not bad for a 1950s offense. Also, speaks volumes about opposing defenses. Way to go Eagles!

  3. Who is the better back London or Pleasant? I can't wait to see how they use Perrin and see how good the big boys are Rice and Tucker.

I don't think you could - or even should for that matter - compare the two backs. They each bring very different styles of running that makes them both very unique, and together gives Scott a very dynamic back field.

  4. After reviewing films from the past 2 seasons , I still say the majority of the issues on defense , is the corners getting beat unfortunately, The line was causing chaos many times making the quarterback scramble and forcing them to pass on the run . The fortunate thing is many passes were either over thrown or the opposing teams dropped the football . Cooper game both years . Conner game , South oldham this past season and Anderson game , we got beat bad on long ball and penalties. I do believe the linebackers will be the key to making big stops on the run and short passes to the middle . The line does have improving to do , and have lost several good players in the past 2 seasons combined . That being said they have new and old talent returning on the line and linebacker positions . I also look forward into them entertaining the idea of utilizing Perrin in the secondary to help as I believe Danny Fitzgerald has also played saftey in the past . It should be interesting, I myself can't wait to see the outcome after the summers preparation.

So then you answered my question (the secondary). Are you suggesting Fitzgerald @ FS alongside Pleasant @ SS and Perrin and London at the corners? What about these "other talented athletes" that didn't come out last year that I keep hearing could very well be a good fit in the secondary should they decide to play this year?

  5. "To land an offer you have to perform on the big stage"...what stage are you referring to? If your talking about the stage of going deep in state, there's about 1,000 examples of where that isn't the case- headed by Damien Harris last year.

But I do agree with you about this years class of N Ky RB's.

Not just necessarily speaking on "going deep into the state" (although it won't hurt to show how you got there). But just being able to perform against those more formidable opponents period. Nothing against those programs but kids rush for 150-200 yards and 3-4 TDs on Holy Cross, Grant Co., etc. But then when they get into those bigger games...You know what I'm saying.

  6. And that's so unfortunate. But I guess that's the difference between good athletes and those destined to be great...You're amongst the leaders of your class, put up good numbers...You have to be able to perform on the big stage when it all counts!

I think everyone who participated in this thread will agree on two things: 1. Northern KY's C/O 2016 will field some of the top RBs in the state this year; and 2. Jacob Smith will be at the forefront of that group. So, no one is ragging on him.

He's very talented and the looks he's generating validates his abilities (as I stated, he can break a team's back if not contained). However, those looks only gets him on the recruiting board - alongside other talented backs from across the region/country. In order to actually land the offer (and this goes for every kid in that group) you have to perform on the big stage...

  7. Smith for New Cath is very talented, however, I was not impressed with him after watching the state title game. Scott should have no problem handling them.

And that's so unfortunate. But I guess that's the difference between good athletes and those destined to be great...You're amongst the leaders of your class, put up good numbers...You have to be able to perform on the big stage when it all counts!

  8. I believe the New Cath game will be a very exciting game to Open up the season with . Scott should do fine on the run defense, my concern is more with the passing defense. This seems to be an area , Scott has struggled with the big plays in the past important games.

I definitely share your concern. But where does the problem lie? (Up front or in the secondary?). And how do Scott fix it?

The general consensus is that a QB's clock is just over 3 seconds and after that the ball should either be out or the QB should expect the rush. In too many instances, I saw where opposing QBs had extended periods of time to make decisions/plays in a comfortable pocket, which puts enormous stress on and exposes any secondary.

  9. Only 7.3 miles separates these two teams. This is a big game for the Scott Eagles, and probably if not the best competition they will play this year. SK is 6A and Scott is a 4A, but who cares any A? Being its Senior night for the Eagles, I see them coming out with great focus and intensity that will prepare them for their state run.

Also, let's not forget about Dixie. They only APPEAR to be in a down year. Coach Brossart has found ways to win in the past, and with a very intense weightlifting program, they will play very physical, hard-nosed football and will field some pretty good athletes of their own re: Caple, Faeth, Schulte, Barrett and Barrmore just to name a few.

  10. With a scheduled scrimmage against Lloyd - whose backfield will include Scott transfer DaShon Lunsford and the elusive, very talented, very athletic LaShunn Townsend and a season opener against NCC (Jacob Smith), the Scott Eagles' run defense will be put to the test right from the very start.

The good thing is depending on how the defense fares against Lloyd, Head Coach Dan Woolley and DC David Simpson will have time to make adjustments before heading into the game against NCC, where Jacob Smith - who is fast and very athletic - could break a team's back if not contained.

  11. London had over 900 yards and Pleasant had over 700.

London - who is actually the featured back - rushed for 940 YDS, 9 TDS on 164 carries. Pleasant - who is on the field offense, defense & special teams - rushed for 843 YDS, 7 TDS on just 82 carries. If the game @ East Jessamine don't get called due to weather, then Scott could have had two backs go over 1,000 YDS on the season. But they definitely gel very well together sharing the back field(accounting for over 60% of Scott's scoring). They could arguably be the top 1-2 punch in NKY). To be considered a top dual threat on a statewide level, they'd have to lead Scott deep into the playoffs. Not sure they can do that without a passing game.

  12. I thought according to a certain SK fan that Powell had all kind of Colleges interested in him. I saw 0 colleges listed next to his name. Hmmmm

If you Google the following, Dillon Powell name shows up as a CMU prospect:
