  1. Anyone who has been on BGP for the last 8-10 years knows that I am a huge fan of Steve Adams as a coach and person. I spoke with him yesterday and it bears repeating....I will always be appreciative and grateful to have had him coach both of my sons. Both of my boys became better men and players as a result. I will cherish all of the memories that my family will carry throughout our lives from our time shared with him at Boyle County.

I’ll see you on the links soon, Coach!!!! Thanks for everything!!!!

    This....ALL DAY LONG!

  2. I have been struggling with who will win this game and continue to do so. Initially I said flip a coin and still believe this game is a tossup.

Belfry is a tough football team and even tougher at home. The Pirates showed last week they can play however you want to play and compete.

Boyle County is a great football team. Skilled players all over the field and incredibly balanced. The big questions for Boyle still remain: O-line play and leadership. Has the Boyle offensive front developed enough to keep the Rebels balanced? And does Boyle have the on field leadership to keep this team focused when the going gets tough? And I do believe the going will get tough in this game.

I like my Rebels by a point:

    Boyle County 34

    Belfry 33

  3. I took some time to watch a couple Boyle games last night a little deeper, here are some of my thoughts:

    - I really like the Kelly kid up front. He is a hosscat and works hard. I was a HUGE Mitchell Paycheck fan last year. I don't think Kelly is quite to the level of Paycheck's ability to disrupt a game, but it is close. The best matchup of the night will be Belfry's very good Interior Linemen vs. Kelly.

    - EZ Roller is a player at LB. Very fast, very physical, and good instincts. His biggest strength is he is not afraid to play aggressive, but it also gets him in a little trouble from time to time when he over-commits or bites on a playfake. This is another key "game inside the game" to monitor. Belfry's QB Avery Browning is a magician with the football and Roller will be asked to make great reads all night on the FB Belly. If he wins the battle between Browning's ball handling and his instincts that bodes well for Boyle, if he gets trapped out of a play it could mean chunk yardage for Belfry.

    - The Colewick kid is fun to watch. Reminds me of Cameron Catron that played for Belfry. Not the most physically imposing athlete, but a natural football player. Tough as nails and can lay a hit. He is kind of the X-factor for Boyle on both sides of the ball.

    - Reese Smith is Reese Smith. Complete stud. Belfry will have their hands full with him. Gained even more respect for his game seeing how patient he is with the ball in his hands to set up blocks and set up cuts. One of my favorite players in KY right now.

    - Expected Crawford to be bigger. Not a knock on him as he runs 20 pounds bigger than he is. Bartleson is super explosive outside with freakish speed, Crawford is the tougher back between the tackles. Very good 1-2 punch and Boyle does a lot of good things to get the balls in their hands in a multitude of ways..

    - Speaking of which, Belfry's OLB/DE's have to play the game of their lives. Boyle is comfortable taking what you give them between the hashes or in the passing game, but where Boyle kills teams is with the big plays on the edges. The jet sweeps, counters, and the ability for Bartleson to bounce a run outside are all recipes for big plays anytime they use them. Belfry has got to keep contain or leverage because once Boyle gets the corner and can turn on their speed they turn a 5-yard gain into 30 in a hurry.

    - Lanter is a very good QB for the Boyle system. Makes very good decisions, throws an accurate and catchable ball, doesn't make mistakes with his footwork. A true pocket passer, you can tell he is very uncomfortable when moved off his mark, but when he can plant his feet or his first read is open after his drop he is very, very good. A little underrated all things considered. If this was the 2015 team with Ray Horton and Austin Hall I would actually like Belfry's abilities to make him sweat... this year though Lanter should really benefit against this Belfry defense which has not shown any semblance of a pass rush.

    - Drew Baker is a sneaky good player for Boyle. You dont see his name getting love often but I like how he plays. Covers kicks well, plays his position great on Defense, excellent tackler, and a surprising red zone threat on Offense.

you have done a fantastic job on the Rebel Scouting report.

  4. Also,

I have bragged about the Belfry radio crew before but I think many got to experience tonight what kind of great job that Bobby Norman and Coach Steve Mickey do on a weekly basis.

Their call was phenomenal tonight and really showed what makes them one of the better crews in the Bluegrass.

This was a game where it was both impossible to hide emotion and at the same time a game that deserved to have the emotion conveyed. The guys got excited listening to the home team, but they still gave every bit the opportunity to keep a level head and call the events as they should have. Constant praise to the LC players, coaching game plan, and proper respect given for a hard fought and well contested game.

Even when the emotions ran high and it was easy to be a spectator they routinely reset the score, time, and the down and distance.

Those guys do a great job every week and are legit stewards and fans of the game.

They even went as far as to name Beau Allen a Co-Player of the Game alongside Dixon even in defeat.

My favorite call of the night was when the announcers said during game play "Allen stands in the pocket looking, ball in one hand, bag of popcorn in the other".

    PRICELESS
