  1. CVH honed his skills on the AAU circuit and I doubt playing bball for Villa had all that great of an effect on his overall game. Put me in the camp of high school sports being for kids that are in high school. It's a high school team, for high school students. If Thomas More has problems filling their roster out should we supplement with students from CCH and NCC?

  2. Having seen 6 of the soccerama games, I'd say it looks to be a 4 team race in the 9th region. To be fair, I did not see the NCC/Dixie game. I do believe that CCH and Ryle looked the strongest followed by Highlands and St. Henry but given that they were only scrimmages it's hard to say for sure.

  3. Highlands can scout 6 opponents driving over to watch the colonial classic. Not sure how much teams scout each other in soccer.

Colonel Classic actually, just an FYI. Highlands has a nice team this year. Saw them vs. Boone County but given Boone's somewhat limited ability it was hard to get a gauge on how good Highlands is this year.

  4. I watched the first half of the Ryle/Campbell game with Ryle leading 2-0 at half. Campbell is pretty shaky defensively but Ryle looked good with some good team speed. I believe Calvary beat Gallatin County 5-0 in the second game last night but didn't see it. In the nightcap, it was CCH over Brossart 5-0 and that was with a lot of finishing issues for CCH. Brossart will struggle this year.

Colonel starters played about half the game and featured 9 seniors and two juniors if I recall.

  5. From what my boys tell me, the Freshman is part of the Crew DA and can't play in high school. He took part in try-outs and looked pretty secure on the ball and athletic. I don't know about his older brother other than he is considered very good.

I've heard the same thing basically but third high school is never a good sign. Speaking of third high schools, my understanding was Nico Ross who started at Cooper and then went to St. Henry last year supposedly transferred to Boone County for this coming year? I've heard he's no longer there either? Anyone know?

  6. Would be no surprise since the kid went to elementary school in Fort Thomas. Not sure how he would be transfer from St. X as I think he is only a frosh this year. Unless the parent has calmed down immensely, it may be more than any coach bargained for.

We may be talking about different players. The kid I'm talking about would be a senior this year. My understanding is he's been at both Walnut Hills and St. X and is looking for a new school this year still.

  7. I'd agree that many freshman start and/or play on various soccer teams, even regional contending teams, but they are normally role players at best. Luke Treadway as a frosh made a difference and that's the only one that I have seen in the last 10 years or so.

  8. Not extremely familiar with SK but I know they lost some really good talent in their Senior Class but return some really key players so I expect them to be solid.

Freshman rarely make an impact at the varsity level on the boys side.

  9. N. Ky teams really should consider doing away with the freshman teams and going to an A and B team at the JV level like Ohio schools are doing. Only a few teams field true freshman teams in N. Ky. with most supplementing with 8th graders or even younger. Have a varsity and a JV team and if you have enough, form two JV teams. I've seen some schools have players playing at all three levels.

  10. I may be forgetting someone but from what I see, the kids that will play varsity for CCH are listed on the roster as shown other than Patrick Seibert. I don't see any sophomores other than Darpel or Stava playing other than an end of the year move up from JV. Again, maybe forgetting a player or two but this is a senior/junior heavy team and they all look like they are on there. I'd guess half the juniors will land on JV.

In 2014, CCH had probably 10 or so juniors on JV and in 2015 they won the state title.

Actually, what I'm hearing now is that all juniors will be on varsity for CCH so JV will be strictly sophs and a frosh or two.

  11. I know for a fact that there are kids on this roster that were cut last week, and there are kids who will play some varsity that aren't included. In short, while I don't know where this roster came from, I'm calling hogwash.

  12. St X in Kentucky has 24 players on there roster 22 of them seniors. Not sure why CC would turn in a roster to the khsaa that had kids cut though.

I'd noticed the same thing about St. X. Seems to me they are the odds on favorite with that many returning players from a good team last year.

  13. Do most coaches list this many players, 36 on their KHSAA roster? Seems like a very large number for a varsity roster. Assume 5-10 of these will wind up on the JV roster along with a few freshman to round out the JV squad.

The St X kid would make for an interesting addition, is his transfer to CCH confirmed?

Not sure about confirmation but he's on the roster and has been at training, although not participating just yet so that tells me there are paperwork issues to be resolved.
