  1. Thanks GP. Since other sports love the thought of predicting and ranking based solely on guesses and seeing who returns, thought we could have some fun with it too. Obviously it is too early to feel good about any predictions, computer or otherwise, but if wait until the season ends to know who the best way, it sort of takes the fun out of it.

I thought Haji had graduated, so that is on me -- my bad.

If he did graduate then he was listed incorrectly last year as he was shown as a junior. I just checked and he is not on their roster so either he was listed incorrectly or he has moved on to another school?

  2. As mentioned, these are just a guess at this point and without a good knowledge of what teams have in returning players it's hard to say. I believe Daviess graduated most of their scoring so I'd be hard pressed to put them at #1. My pick is St. X as they had a pretty young team last year in a tough region. Collegiate returns Haji Abdikadir (40 goals last year) and some other good young talent so they will be there as well. I'd put CCH in the top 10 but just barely at this point.

  3. Couple of revisions to offside are going to cause a lot of what people will think are strange calls.

    1. The deliberate play issue with defenders. Remember deliberate, not good.

    2. I assume high school adopted the change for the restarts where the kick is now where the offside occurs, like where the ball is touched. So the flags will be really delayed now.

As far as raising the flag and having a convo, perhaps they had to discuss if the defender made the deliberate play? Just a guess.

I believe this is what happened. When an AR needs to get the attention of the Center Ref they wave the flag overhead. I don't think he was signaling a late offsides call but was trying to get the attention of the center ref to discuss what happened. They did that and awarded the goal. I believe it was judged that the St. Henry player passed the ball which would nullify the offsides call since CCH didn't make the pass. Just my guess.

  4. I think if CCH can score three goals they should be OK but that is a big question mark in my mind. I think they will struggle offensively early in the season and it may take awhile to find their groove. St. Henry moved the ball around pretty well in soccerama and has a solid squad. I'm going with a 2-2 tie in this one. Not sure what the rules are in this Colonel Cup format if they end in a tie but that's my call.

  5. OH also has different rules when it comes to number of games. They are allowed 5 scrimmages but only 16-17 regular season games.

I mentioned it may be premature to say there are "no standout offensive players in NKY this season." Same patience is also needed before anyone says the opposite. Last yr is a thing of the past, new season doesn't start until Monday. Might want to wait until late September/early Oct before someone starts that old "Top 100 players in NKY" list.

I based my comment (no standout offensive players) on seeing 6-7 soccerama matches and more so on who I'd seen last year that is coming back this year. There were several last year (Snow, Lamb, etc) and I see nobody of that quality this year. Not an insult, just my opinion and as always, when people are posting stats later this year to back up who they consider a great offensive player, consider the competition first.

  6. That Improvement was needed even more than the lights. The old sound system may have been the worst in any football stadium I have been in. Good news!!

The new sound system definitely needs some tweaking from what I heard over the weekend. Visitor side of the stadium it was not very easy to hear what the announcers were saying.

  7. The stadium is named after Dennis Griffin, the father of 12 and family patriarch. The monetary legal issues arose between the Griffin brothers and sisters. The sisters are the ones who sued the brothers for cheating them out of there share after Dennis had passed. It is reported that it was the intent of the wills of Dennis and his wife were that the fortunes were to be shared by all 12 kids. The brothers are the ones who apparently swindled the sisters. So, where is it shown, that Dennis Griffin was found guilty of anything?

Dennis is one of the brothers and is not the patriarch (his name was John) so yes, unfortunately the stadium is named for one of the brothers. The naming and donations to the school were well before all of that came to light. You are correct that Dennis is deceased, which I think was 2015.
