  1. Green should’ve got the award and did. Still does not change my opinion that Vinson is hands down the number 1 player in the ninth!!

Agree. There is always someone trying to find a way to hand a trophy to the person on the losing end. Vinson got what he earned, "All-Tournament Team". The winning team's most valuable player should get the trophy, and did.

NTM, the first time they played when CCH won by 26 and Green had 17 (on 6/7 shooting, and 5/6 FT), and was strong inside, and Vinson had 7 and and was 3/12 from the field.

Vinson is a stud. I hope that he goes to NKU (but, he may end up higher level) and has a long, successful career, and I can cheer for him for the next 4-5 years. But, last night, Green earned it.

  2. I think you could argue Sam Vinson deserved 9th region MVP. They rarely ever give it to a player on the losing team but when you look up the true definition of valuable Vinson definitely fits that. Take Vinson off of Highlands where are they? Take Green off of CCH where are they? Just a thought. Congrats to Cov Cath!

I disagree with this. I agree that Vinson is very good, and likely the best player on the floor last night. If HHS won, he would have been the MVP. But, they lost. Vinson and team could not get over the hump. And, CCH did win, and Neil was the most valuable productive player on their team over the course of the tournament.

You can't fault Neil for the talent that is around him, and where they would be if he wasn't there, just like you can't build Vinson up, just because his team isn't as deep or talented as CCH.

CCH won so their most valuable player gets the award. That simple.

With your logic, I could argue that DaeShawn White or Gavin Rabe or Ian Snelling should have won. Where would their teams be without them???

  3. Coaching....Coaching.....Coaching.....As i posted after the first time they played....Beechwood only needs to watch the film of their losses to understand why they underachieve. Conner did not take a bad shot all night. Patience...passing...motion offense....discipline...no forced shots. Beechwood seems to think only certain players should shoot......In all my years of watching basketball....the teams that win allow and expect the OPEN man to shoot. There is no pre-conceived idea of who should shoot. No running 20 seconds off the clock with no set play....only to let one player force a shot with no passing attempts. It is just BAD basketball. Congratulations to Conner. They are the better team.

Didn’t hear this at all last year when they were winning a lot and beat CCH twice. Interesting take all the sudden.

  4. Round 1 Winner Predictions:

    South Oldham

    Collins

    Grant

    Oldham County

    Round 2 Winner Predictions:

    Collins

    Oldham County

    Region Winner Prediction: Oldham County

This really should be a great tournament. I believe any one of 4 teams could win (SO, Collins, SK, OC). And, Grant could push some teams. Made the predictions for fun, but this tourney will be one to keep an eye on!

  5. My predictions in the first round.

Cooper (might be going with my heart but I do feel it could be a little different game than in December with Jennings and Centers back neither played in the first meeting. )

    CCH by a bunch

    Conner by 6-8

    Highlands by 12-15

Centers playing at a high level right now. Could be right, and could be a good game, but I see St. H with the horses to pull through in the end.

  6. Nice review. I'll predict:

    St. Henry

    CCH

    Conner

    Highlands

Very chalky, I know. But, the lower ranked teams like Cooper, Newport, and Dixie just haven't been consistently great at winning games this season, and I believe the teams they are playing are just plain better, and have better players.

With that said, Conner vs. Beechwood is the most intriguing, and if their were an upset, that is the one that I'd pick.

I'll also say, I like the "star" talent this year. Vieth, Bessler, Stocks, Disken, Green, Scott, Centers, Vinson, Muller... All names we've been hearing for a while.

I hope these make for exciting games.

I should have added Draud to this list also.

Another crop of players to pay attention to are:

Riley & Downton (Beechwood), Shea (St. H), Osterbur & Couzins (Conner), White & Nelson(Newport), Rabe (Cooper), McHale & Starks (CCH), Ahfeld (Highlands), Snelling & Geraci (Dixie).

  8. I highly doubt that would happen. But, if it did, Ryle would be loaded with guards and talent.

Would it be the best overall set of guards in the region? Robinson, Bush, Rabe, and #4 (Bishop, I’ve seen is his name)?

And, didn’t the family move? If you make a legit move I thought you could still play. I’ve seen it a ton in this region and everywhere else in the state.

Either way, Ryle basketball is really looking up.

  9. Have to think Ryle is encouraged moving forward that their young group held Coopers best, or second best player in check. With that said, Centers and Deere came to play, and Jennings hit the shot of his life.

Great game. Shouldn’t be marred by this call, or that call. I see these 2 teams going toe to toe for years to come.

On a side note, if Rabe would have stayed at Ryle... Cooper would have been in real trouble this season.

  10. Yes they practice, they may have weekend training camps where they practice 3-5 times in one weekend. It may be a lot, but it also helps with conditioning for tournaments. You may play 3-4 games in one day. Ive never been a fan of "renting" a player, but if you're renting a player then they are in the market to switch teams. I know of a kid about five years ago that actually did play for another team with his coaching okaying the move for a weekend. The kid turned an ankle, and had to miss a tournament or two. Needless to say, this has never been a problem for that coach again.

  11. Ok, while we are on the subject of 2016; who would you rather have? Snapp or Perry?

    -both are coaches sons.

-Snapp plays better competition during the high school season, but Perry plays on a more talented aau team.

-Perry is the better run and jump athlete, Snapp is svelte, and can get in the lane using his craftiness.

-both have high ball iqs, and can shoot.

-both aren't great defenders, but work hard on the defensive end of the floor.

I really like both of them. Ive seen games where they both may not be the most publicized kid on the floor, but came away highly impressed with them.
