  1. I attended this game last night to see this new big CovCath freshman class, and I got to see a very good game. Cooper was winning 8 to 7 at halftime, but then CovCath came out in the second half and tacked on touchdowns to go up 19 to 8. Cooper drove down 80 yards in the last 2 minutes to make it 19 to 16 and had an onside kick with 40 seconds to go that CovCath recovered.

  2. This team is a disaster. Big contracts to the wrong guys, no depth, old, injury prone. The deals for Votto and Bailey were over the top for me.

Its easy to say the Votto deal was over the top now that he hasn't been healthy since. However at the time it looked like they locked up one of the top hitters in baseball for a long time. The Bailey deal was the one that shouldn't have been done.

  3. Like I said in previous predictions, Conner chose the wrong guy for the Qb position and they wouldn't pull out a win with him. The kid is not confident enough to air the ball out, plenty of open receivers in the backfield but he throws to the side or runs him self. Conner will be lucky to pull out a win using him unless they move the end zones to the sidelines. Where is that freshman Qb everyone is talking about, that kid is not afraid to air it out. Why didn't Coach move him up? He is best Qb for the job especially if this is a rebuilding year for Conner. He has size speed and a nice arm, Not afraid to air it out. He would also have 4 years to turn things around for Conner.

By the chatter in the stands, there are a lot of fans not happy with the Coaches Qb decision, it's not only mine. My son is number 11, Jeff Martin, like everyone doesn't know that by now. He is by far a better Qb, he has more experience on the field as Qb. He also plays well as wide receiver, he is very fast and get open quick. My issue with the Qb is he can't throw the ball that far or he's afraid too, the short passes that were thrown were slow off of release or at the ground. My son was almost completely vertical to catch a pass that was thrown at the ground. There were plenty of times when open receivers were waiving their hands around and he decides to run the ball himself. Conner will struggle using Padgett as Qb. Coach Trosper's decision. We all have to live with it. "It's gonna be a long year." Quoted many parents in the stands.

I decided to attend this game with a good friend of mine who has a son who plays for Boone. So I got to see the same game that you did. I understand that you are being supportive of your son, but how does bashing another high school player help support your son? You may think you are trying to support your son, but at the same time you are bashing a high schooler saying how the other player shouldn't have won the job. Talking up your son is one thing, but having to put down another high schooler to do that is wrong and there is no respect with that.

Your evaluation of the game is also very bias. I am very happy that my friends son team won, however Conner's offense with the guy they had at QB moved the ball very well. In fact two of their drives had fumbles after they drove it all the way down to the 10 yard line. One came by #24 once he got do the four yard line, and the other came on a bad snap that Boone recovered. So they scored 26 points and had two drives that would have probably been TD's if not for the fumbles. The offense and the QB clearly was not the reason they lost this game.

As others have said support your son and be there for him, but putting down other high school players is not the way to do that. Especially when your evaluation was very bias and was way off because the offense with that QB played very well and moved the ball.

  4. Good for the Panthers. Hopefully this will help keep talent in town. There have been some really good players head to high school elsewhere over the past few years. Good luck versus Bracken County.

Us Dixie fans have benefitted from those players leaving Ludlow. :D

If those players and I believe another one who went to CovCath had stayed, then Ludlow would have had a really solid team and would compete in 1A with some top teams possibly. So for Ludlow's sake hopefully those players start to stay.

  5. If Martin gets to Qb, I think Conner could pull this one out. The coaches seem to keep Martin standing on the sidelines, my opinion he is the better Qb. He was told last year that he was going to start as Qb but haven't seen that yet. There are too many clicks on Conners football team, I'm guessing he is in the wrong one. Conner was using him as WR, he would be open in the back field and Padgett would throw short passes to either side for no yards. I seen the same thing with Michael Postal, wide open, short pass to the side for no yards. They need to air the ball out. I think it's going to be a good game, going with Conner by a touchdown.

I haven't seen either play to know who looks better. However it sounds like from post on here that the other QB has looked better. Not to mention with the other kid being a year younger, it only makes sense to go with the younger one if they two are about even in the competition.

  6. Could not disagree more with this statement. Football is the consummate team sport where guys do play for the man next to them. It's all about individual sacrifice for the good of the team. When people on a team play for their teammates and are held accountable to the good of the team, magic happens on the field. That's what it's all about.

All that stuff you said is true for the people who are playing and want to play. All that stuff you said is untrue when it comes to if someone should play a sport or not. You don't play a sport for the good of a team. You play a sport because you want to play. Now if you do decide to play, then yes you do play for the man next to you because it is a team sport. However when it comes to choosing to play, only what that person feels matters.

  7. It was two exciting years for the program, especially after going 0-20 the first two varisty years. It wasnt an arrogance it was more hopefullness that they were heading in the right direction. The walton program was started the right way from the bottom up and i think that is one reason for their success. Where as brossart started from the top down and has hit a major speed bump.

As for 2A i wont blame the down turn on that alone but a brand new program like that the move to 2A knocked the wind out of the progam in a way. Our boys who were on the fence about playing football, seeing that the level of competion made a dramatic jump got scared and didnt play.

Its not a dramatic jump in competition when the move in 2A only realistically created 2 tougher games a year for them than what they were already playing in the 1A district.

  8. Wow!! I've been around this area and on this board for quite a few years; and aware of the BB football program from its inception; and I can't recall anyone on here crowing about their football program?? Even in its best years, they were merely competitive with the "River Schools" that make up the bulk of the NKY 1A district, and never close to Beechwood. Seldom even beat any of the next tier of programs below BW, and mostly split at best with Walton?? No clue where you read any "Arrogance" from any BB supporters, but I'd welcome an example.

BB has had significant success in most every other sports program they've offered over the years, and maybe even a few examples of arrogance from "fans" on here; but in football???? The Mustangs have gotten a bit of a bad rap for dominating the 10th region All "A" in a few sports, most significantly, basketball; and some have accused them of having an entitlement mentality in the "A" which I'd argue is coming from the BB side. However, having listened to their broadcasts and followed their football program; any semblance of "arrogance" is the farthest thing from the truth?? Even their most unrealistic supporters have realized they had a very long hill too climb in football.

I am not sure how far back these threads go that people can pull up, but I feel like if you go back and look at the threads from the two decent seasons they had. That you will see exactly what I am talking about. I also think if you can find members on this board who were on here back then from the river schools of Bellevue, Ludlow, and Dayton they would say the same thing. Their fans got pretty high and mighty pretty fast with a little success that year. Most of those posters for brossart have disappeared since the move to 2A though and no longer on here. Mustang has been on here through all that, and he was one of the few Brossart faithful on here that didn't get like that.

I also disagree with people on here saying they should do away with the program. There is potential still there to have a successful football program IMO.

  9. Mustang--I enjoy your posts 99.9% of the time ... but I can't let this one go for some reason.

Did you ever think that the real death sentence is that the kids in the program have heard adults from around the program constantly harp about the move to AA being a "death sentence".

I mean ... seriously .... it has to be hard for the kids to constantly hear how they were not good enough to compete in their truly aligned class.

Please ... stop complaining about moving to AA.

You were moved there based on the number of boys in your school. But .. instead of embracing it ... you have people who come on the internet .. and who are in the community who speak about moving up as a "death sentence".

My opinion ... is that there was a huge amount of arrogance when Brossart added football. That arrogance seems to still continue ... based on moving back to Class A next year. There are a ton of posts on this site when the program was started ... that have always left a bad taste in my mouth (where I got the impression that Brossart thought that they would compete immediately--which is cool--and I dig the confidence--but it doesn't work anymore when people complain about the move to AA). I fully admit that I could have taken that the wrong way ... but it certainly made me shake my head.

For the sake of the program ... all the adults need to quit whining about AA. Freaking embrace it as opposed to constantly blaming the move.

I still think Brossart can have a great program someday. Dan Ridder is the type of leader who will work tirelessly to ensure that things are handled properly. And I seriously doubt if he will but up with anymore whining about AA.

    ^^ Simply stating a fact.

Embrace it or not, it is the single significant factor that has led to our near demise. There are things that you can overcome and others that you can't. We were ill-prepared/positioned for a move to 2-A, and regardless of how legitimate, it has taken its toll on our numbers and our football program.

I have not been a member of this board long, but I have been reading on here for many years. I think one thing that quickslick is getting at is how arrogant fans of Brossart acted once they did have some success, and I even remember seeing that on here. I am not saying it was you, but there were a lot of other Brossart posters back then and they were very arrogant and acting like the program had already become better than traditional programs such as Bellevue, Dayton and Ludlow and even acted like they were better that what Walton was becoming. That did leave a bad taste for people on how quickly fans became arrogant and for no reason, when in reality they still haven't done well even in the past few years against those same 1A schools.

I hope to see the Brossart program get on its feet because I too think it can be a good program eventually with the right coach and dedication in place. Can't give players or parents reasons why for failure, need to only be reasons why success can come.

  10. The suicide squeeze call was probably one of the worst coaching decisions I've seen in a while. With 1 out and the winning run on 3rd base, all the batter would need to do is hit a pop fly to any part of the outfield, and Cooper wins the game. Instead the coach called a suicide squeeze, pitch out, runner was dead meat. Now if there were two outs, I'm all for trying it. But never with one out. That was just bad.

Getting a bunt down is a lot easier than hitting a sac fly. On a squeeze usually as long as you get it down, the runner will be safe unless there is a great play made by the defense. So nothing wrong with going for the squeeze play with a guy on third in the last inning with only 1 out. However deciding to do it on the very first pitch should be questioned.

Who was the batter for Cooper? Is he someone who usually does hit a lot of fly balls to the outfield? If so maybe he could have gave him at least until one strike to hit a sac fly before calling for the squeeze.

  11. It's just that IMO he's blocking Meso from becoming a very good catcher.

I hope your right about Meso. I know its been a small sample size, however he reminds me of some of the other Reds in the past who seemed to be very good prospects and ended up not doing much. It would be nice to see what he can do though with more consistent opportunities to play. I know I hope he does great!

  12. You just explained what the Bengals have done for twenty years.....try reading what I posted instead of making crap up.

You two are comical to watch on here. I will say this though while I share your frustration over all the many years that Mike Brown did everything possibly wrong with the franchise. You really might want to research what you say before you say things on here. From what I have seen you throw a lot of things out there that simply are not true, I believe even FC in his LONG POST has even pointed that out to you. You might want to go back and edit your post before he reads it because you posted some more false and made up things. Which really hurts any credibility you try to have in your arguments. You said the Ravens signed Boldin and Webb as free agents and that is simply not true. The Ravens traded for Boldin, and they drafted Webb. You would have been better off talking about Jones who was a free agent that helped them out. Other than that they built their super bowl team through free agency too.

  13. I agree it was a good move, but he really had no choice.

This is true. One thing I would like to see Coach Cal do is go back to playing Kyle Wiltcher like he did last year. Every time Florida went on a run today was when WCS was out, and Kyle was in.

  14. How about the great coaching move by Cal today to put WCS back in with 11 minutes to go even with 4 fouls. Most coaches would not take a chance to do that, but he knew Florida was on a run and the only hope UK had to still pull off the game was to put him in and hope he didn't get that 5th foul. It was a gutsy decision but a decision that definitely ended up being the right decision today.
