  1. I'm not familiar with the situation at Ashland but I'm familiar with their tradition. Winning high school basketball program in Kentucky history that is impressive! Unfortunately in today's society, it is what have you done lately. Having the worst year in Ashland history is tough. Regardless of what happens I wish the best for Ashland and Coach Biggs.

    X's and O's,

Just because somebody is available doesn't mean they are interested or willing. The grass is not always greener.

  2. I am a little surprised how quickly after the season this took place.

Does Russell have somebody on the radar or will they try to hire from within? As I have stated before, I'm not that knowledge about the happening in Region 16. I just think it happened very quickly and thought maybe something was in the plans.

Doesn't most schools have to wait and see what teaching openings will be available before hiring a coach?

  3. I talked to somebody today (via text) that knows the Greenup Co. situation. He explained there are a number of issues with the basketball program. I will not address the coaching situation. The forum is not the place.

But the youth basketball program is another story. It is true that the baseball program runs youth basketball program and the money is funneled into the baseball program. Previous coaching staffs have wanted to run the youth program but were denied the opportunity. In this case, is a administrative problem. The community must demand the feeder program be run by the basketball program. Any successful basketball program has a great feeder program. This scenario is comparable to the football program running the Little League baseball program.

Hopefully, GC can turn things around and get back to its glory days.

  4. Again, I don't the coaching staff or the player but how is a school's youth basketball program (feeder system) run by their baseball program?

In the long run, that is a "Death Sentence" for the basketball program. Your feeder system has to be running and managed by basketball personnel that has the best interest of the basketball program at heart. Maybe that is the reason Greenup has struggled since the "Ward Years".

I would think the current basketball situation may be more of an administrative issue than a coaching issue. The community should demand the youth program be a feeder system for high school teams.

  5. I am not familiar with the current coaching situation or player so I will not address anything about them. Plus this is not the place to be doing that.

My question is "Who is in charge of the youth basketball program at Greenup Co.?"

I have been told by somebody from there that the baseball program runs the youth basketball tournaments and program. Is this true? If that is the case, that is a major problem. How can somebody other than the basketball program be running your feeder system?

As I said I'm not familiar with the situation at Greenup Co. So can somebody enlighten me?

  6. The Pirates are off to a solid start at 2-2. They won their season opener against Red Bird by 20+ but dropping two on Saturday. Last night's win against Bath County is a good win for the Pirates. Has anybody seem them in person and can give a first hand account of their progress?

  7. Berea is in a tough situation but not a hopeless one. District 44 is a challenge for them to compete in especially being a smaller school. Central and Southern will control the District most years. Of course with Central's recent dominance, Berea is not a factor.

This year's version of the Pirates will be a year older so hopefully that will help. Another year of maturity and skill development will help the Pirates.

In the long run I think it will take a special system to be implemented to make Berea a legitimate player in District 44. Most years Berea is not going to have the talent level of the others but a special system may make up for the disparities. Of course the system would need to be implemented all the way to the youth program. If that could happen and a couple Southern kids buy into that system and move in. Berea could be a solid program.

  8. I understand it is football season and the Panthers are in the middle of a great football season, but I thought there might be a little talk of the rapidly approach BK season. The Panthers have struggled the past couple years but I think this year could be a different story! Has FHS made the turn and ready for better days?

  9. Looking forward to the start of the Hoops Season! How many basketball players are on the Football squad?

A successful football playoff run is very possible for the Panthers. I think this could impact their December performance but would be surprised if it effected their Jan. play! The key thing is how healthy everybody is at the end of Football!
