  1. Okay lets try this....

St. X and Trinity love the idea of a private class. They immediately contract with the GCL South to play the 4 Cincy teams. They add the Tenn and Cleveland private power teams. And the best private teams in Indy want on the schedule because all of them have trouble filling out the schedule.

So Trinity and St.X play a double header at Papa Johns every Friday they can and draw 20,000 every time. Games are on ESPNU. Kids in Louisville area flock to these schools because of all the exposure they would get. In the playoffs Trinity and St. X play for private school Big school championship.

Meanwhile the other smaller private schools play each other a couple of games and then against the best smaller school powers in Ohio and Tenn and Indiana. Highlands and Beechwood decide they would like to play the private schools too in the regular season so they join in the rotation and only play the 3 district games they have to play against public schools. Everyone thinks it works out well, good competition, nice attendance and everyone wonders why they did not do it years ago. Danville decides Beechwood has an advantage so they want it the rotation and Boyle County jumps in also. Bowling Green looks at it and decides they would like to play CovCath and St.X and some Ohio and TN private teams as it can only help them in their playoffs. All is well.

  2. Remember, just because an amount is budgeted doesn’t mean it is used.

They are actual expenditures that are reported.

    KENTUCKY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION

    2016-2017

T35 ACTUAL EXPENDITURES – PROGRAM COMPARISON CHART

Just FYI the combined coaches salaries for Boys and Girls Basketball are the same at $7,900 as for Softball/Baseball at $3600, Boys and Girls Soccer are both at $4,300. Boys and Girls Track at $2,000. Tennis at $1,000. Volleyball (Girls only) at $4,300.

  3. UPSET ALERT

The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team earned a huge victory on Saturday afternoon, as the Norse took down No. 19/20 Green Bay by a final score of 62-54. NKU improves to 3-10 overall and 1-1 in the Horizon League, while Green Bay falls to 11-2 and 1-1 in League play.

  4. The last 2 games have shown that OL is a need but not the Titanic it was at the beginning of the season. That one is squarely on the coaching staff. When 3 practice squad/guys that were on a couch can help knock 2 teams out of the playoffs then the changes should have been made long ago.

DB is always a need in a WR dominated league. So WR is also a need. As is QB. I think Safety and LB are needs but only if the right player is there.

  5. Love the numbers you guys are throwing out. The current pay was $4,000 a year. Netting approximately $2,700.

So love of the game and kids or to use it as a stepping stone are the options for a job similar to NCC’s open position.

The salary numbers have to be reported to the KHSAA under Title IX and can be viewed on their website. All salary numbers for all sports have to be reported.

  6. I hope the powers that be don't dwell in the past.

The last Coach knew he wasn't going to be there long so he wasn't going to try to change the flow of the Ohio River while he was there.

The larger point is NCC needs to clean house and get rid of "everyone related to anyone" on the staff.

See the other thread for what NCC pays coaches and your task becomes very difficult if not impossible.

  7. Their pay is a joke though for what they have done and what those around the program expect.

Sorry Frank, I didn’t mean to sound like I might have came off. I just know what’s expected of these coaches; yet people have no idea the demands it takes on them or their families. Life is all above choices also, but at some point this bull has got to meet in the middle. Pay these men what they are worth or be dang thankful for what they have.

I get that even the schools that pay double what NCC does still have coaches that are not compensated fairly for their time and efforts. And we know that public school systems are going to be able to pay more. The two public schools in NCCs district that have 1 win against NCC since the 90s pay more and those coaches still are not making what they should.

My point is when you are paying what NCC does you are not going to get some outsider that wants to stay for any length of time. You will need to get someone who is not in it for the money at all.

  8. Par or better than most. Maybe one day these guys will get paid for their time and crap they have to deal with. You have jobs (premier) ones of late where only one or two current head coaches at other places have applied. Being a high school head football coach or any head coach, especially in this state, is one of the single most overrated “CEO” type spots on planet earth.

I think you will find that is significantly less than a lot of NKY schools with traditionally good football programs.

  9. My first NKU game. Took wife and kids. What a great facility and the people working couldn’t have been any nicer.

As for game, a previous poster said UIC was too talented to lose like that and I’ve never seen them but they looked awful. They had trouble even dribbling sometimes.

NKU I take it is a team that lives and dies by the 3? They shoot a lot of them and tonight they were way on.

    I’ll be back. Great time.

Up until about 2 games ago NKU was leading Division 1 teams in 2 point FG percentage and is still one of the top teams in the nation. When they are "on" the 2 point FGs in the paint are what really makes them good. Anything from outside is just gravy.

  10. Saturday Night is Boone County Night at BB&T Arena. Bring a Boone County liscense and I think you get a $5 ticket.

That is true. Boone Co residents $5 tickets. Also 4 for $40 night (4 tickets, 4 soft drinks, 4 Hot Dogs) 40 bucks. Also Saturday shoot around after the game for Grade 6 and under kids (they use lots of baskets for the smaller kids) and NKU players intermingle.

  11. Exactly so it could be conceivable be free but nobody will ever know. I know St Catherine in Ft Thomas use to be a no tuition elementary but you had better put your share in on Sundays or you better be prepared to offer your time and talent

No it cannot be free. Any award has to come from a third party that is applied to and that third party knows how much in the "pool" and how much can be awarded based on financial need only and the percentage awarded to a student is limited. That is for every school. The school itself has nothing to do with it other than saying this is the amount in the pool.

  12. Does NewCath still offer free tuition to any student that lives in Newport that can’t afford the tuition but wishes to continue their Catholic faith?

I don't think any private school in Kentucky can offer free tuition. Any tuition assistance is done thru an independent third party and there are limits to the amount/percentage of tuition assistance (I think it is like 40%) and the identity of those awarded assistance is never known to the school itself before the third party makes a decision based on financial factors only.

  13. After the then Bishop Hughes got talked/scared/threatened out of a centralized Catholic high school across from St Joes (now a Bob Evans and medical buildings) things kind of stagnated and then the Diocese found itself in deep trouble with all the lawsuits from the bad Priests and their troubling behavior. Nothing could be green-lighted because the Diocese knew there was going to be massive payouts. Then when the Marydale property was sold off to fund the record 120 million dollar payout to victims in 2005. things could go forward. The 2007-2009 recession soon followed. After that both NCC and Brossart made academic improvements (if you are a theater fan you really like them) to their schools that did not directly involve athletics. That kind of leaves athletic improvements as the next logical step I guess.
