  1. No politics, everyone had a sheet and wrote down their top 40 kids & turned it in. The top 40 kids w/ the most "points" got selected.

Unfortunately, "everyone" isn't really everyone. A lot of the evaluators at these events already know who their picks are and -- here's the real shocker -- may even have had a hand in enrolling those players in the event.

  2. I think that most, if not all of you, are missing the point about transfers. The KHSSA mission statement contains language that emphasizes participation and enhancing the experience for the student-athlete - nothing about a coach, program, parent or booster. Being true to their word, the KHSAA will favor the student-athlete, no matter how bad it smells sometimes.

This may hold true in theory and even in the majority of applied decisions, but there's been more than one BGP thread indicating that it is not always the case. It certainly wasn't the case with our kid.

  3. Call it what you want, but it is a "release". There is a box on the transfer form that the school check to make the transfer process a breeze for the kid transferring. If they check the other box (for any reason good or bad), the kid is ineligible and has to appeal.

I wonder how many of you on here commenting about the transfer process have actually had kids that have gone through the transfer process.

Also, something for everyone to consider while you are wondering why transferring has become so easy. There are a lot of bad coaches and corrupt programs out there. Do you think that some kids get a pass on transferring as long as they keep their mouth shut about wrong doings at the school they are transferring from?

I'm glad someone is willing to bring this up. Though I typically don't comment a lot on transfer threads (unless they involve Wiggins), our family has been through the process and we've learned three things: 1) unsurprisingly, certain folks from a kid's former school can make things pretty easy or they can make things pretty rough; 2) regardless of the reason a player may change programs, it certainly seems that the burden of proof rests on the kid and her/his family; 3) the current system -- at least in Kentucky -- makes it difficult for a family to explain how complicated the relationship between "academic reasons" and "athletic reasons" can be.

  4. Okay, I already understood the basics about the existence and submission of an audio recording. My question was about I4C's earlier mention of "another coach" somehow being involved with the recording. Is that a reference to another coach in the region? Another Kenton County coach? Another [gulp] Scott coach?

  5. But the real issue here is the cowardly act of recording a coach in the locker room at halftime orchestrated by another coach. This all coming from a coach that has, for years, said the same things that were recorded but now it's different when it's your lil Johnny. How hypocritical of you and I hope karma comes back to bite ya.

Yikes -- I'm not sure what's being said here, but none of the possibilities seem pleasant. Without violating any BGP rules, can anybody clarify this?

  6. Some of the responses here are quite hysterical. So because your son's buddies call him the cat word, it is okay for a grown man to do the same? Wow!!!!!

Thank you! I come from a generation and a city that have had their share of rough times, but I've never understood the notion that rejecting abusive language somehow equals emotional weakness. I guess nothing says "tough" like a bunch of us taking online jabs at one another while using pseudonyms.

  7. He can play at the level...has played with and against high major talent since he was 7 years old for Leon Ellison and OBC.

Jones played with Amos Harris (Ohio State), Jarron Cumberland (Wilmington-UC), Luke Kennard (Duke), and Nate Fowler (Butler) the majority of those years.

Actually, only Cumberland played on the same OBC team as Jones; Kennard, Harris, and Fowler were all King James players, though on that circuit you never knew when guys would show up "on loan" now and then. That being said, your point is 100% correct -- those of us who have seen Carlik play on a regular basis have always viewed him as a D1 kid.

  8. Dixie does a horrible job getting the ball to Bradfield.

You've got a point here, but these issues are complicated. I'm assuming you attended the game and I was there as well; there were stretches when the guards didn't look to Reed often enough or early enough, but there were also times when he did not position himself well to receive or score, particularly in transition. Remember, DHHS finished this season with one senior on the squad -- these guys are young and still learning, the big upside being that virtually all of them are returning next year. Reed's a strong athlete and a smart kid who had a good junior season and will likely have a fantastic senior season.

  9. Given that Bezold has probably played/shot there hundreds of times, I'd expect an above average performance from him. If the Dixie team that destroyed Scott on that floor shows up, could be a great matchup.

Dixie's AJ Plitzuweit is the current NKU women's coach's son, so I believe he's pretty familiar with the arena as well. I'll go out on a limb and predict a close and exciting game.
