  1. They were a stepping stone job in the A10 and MCC, for sure. Slightly different animal now, which is why Chris has passed on a number of nice offers like Georgetown. He has 9 years in, and leaving for UL would be a no-brainer for him with a long-term deal.

No, Xavier can't approach $5 million per, certainly not.

  2. I think Xavier knows what it is. Going to try to get 3-5 years out of rising star coaches.

I don't know what you're saying here, you think Xavier knows what he makes? Obviously. They are a private school, they don't disclose what he makes, and that attachment that ATM posted isn't close to right in any of those years. My point was I don't know where that link / info was from (edit: I see now he pulled it from the "USA Today" database which is likely accurate for Public Schools), but it isn't right (edit: it says the Private Schools were pulled from institution tax forms in 2015, but in this case, likely wouldn't include monies from the endowment that covers a portion of the coach's salary as an endowed position, that would have come through a Foundation).

This next hire will be the first MBB hire Greg Christopher has made since hiring Louie Orr at BG many years ago -- hope this next one goes better than that.

The Xavier "always hires the right guy" thing is out the window with a new A.D., this isn't Mike Bobinski hiring the next guy. Wish it was.

Impossible to know exactly what Greg will be looking for as his track record of hiring is spotty, but I'd think a guy like Tommy Amaker will check a lot of the boxes Greg will hone-in on. But again, that is more of a guess than a hunch, as, like I said, Greg is a wildcard here.

  3. From the Prediction Thread:

This game will be determined in two places:

    * Davidson's three-point line. They are one of the best perimeter shooting teams in America facing off with one of the best perimeter defending teams in America. If Davidson shoots 35%+ from the arc, they are in the game.

    * The glass. Can Davidson keep UK off the offensive glass and limit 2nd and 3rd chances for the Cats? UK gets 35% of their misses back, one of the best percentages in America; Davidson only let's their opponents get 23% of their misses back, also, one of the best percentages in the country.

Two teams whose strengths match up with something their opponent does a nice of defending. Davidson actually has decent size for a non power conference team, but they have very little depth.

I fully expect UK to win the game, but these running-clock / 30 / No chance / as many as they want predictions are over-the-top. This will be a game, and if Davidson can create and knock-down open looks from deep, it will keep all of you very interested late into the contest.

    1. Davidson shot 33% from the arc for the game. They were definitely in the game.

    2. UK only got 6 of their 25 misses back (24%), basically right on Davidson's average on the season. While UK handled them on the glass overall, predictably, Davidson did a great job in limiting UK's 2nd chances.

  4. Tom Crean would fit the energetic part.

I think he gets a job this spring, but I don't think he is a fit at UGA.

I think he will wedge himself into UL conversation, and if he loses out on that to Chris he will swing the bat hard at Xavier if given a helmet and an AB

  5. Whatever it’s running across the ESPN ticker that he was offered and withdrew his name after meeting with them twice last week, guess all outlets are incorrect on their information.

You think the AD at Georgia offered a job to a coach before he knew the coach, not working, would accept it and wanted it? I don't. Highly unlikely. If he did, sloppy job by the AD vetting and interviewing.

Either way, not worth debating, not a big deal. We agree that he would be awful there.

  6. How come? He's a solid coach and a good recruiter.

He hasn't even attempted to recruit in 5 years. He caught dudes who were interested, but he wasn't beating the bushes.

    His health stinks.

Georgia needs a young and energetic dude, maybe an up-and-coming black coach. They don't need Thad Matta.

  7. According to reports Thad Matta turns down 5 year 16 million (3.2 a year) dollar contract to become next HC

I don't buy he was offered the job, for what it's worth (not saying you made it up, just saying I think the reports are over-stated).

I also think he'd be an unmitigated disaster there. Terrible fit.

  8. I believe I heard coach makes $400,000 so a raise of $200M would be significant. You don't think that would do it?

No, I don't for a minute think he would leave NKU for MTSU, even if he went up to $800,000. MTSU just had the mother of all seasons (for them) and still needed to win their Tourney to get invited to the party -- why would he leave all he has here (family, momentum, big city, relationships) for an identical "big picture" situation. The money will be there.

I don't think he'd be the first or second interview at Xavier when Chris leaves (right now), but I think he'd be the third and he has to like those odds.

Now, a P5 job with a seven-figure pay-day would be tough to turn down, to be sure. I don't think he has a prayer at Georgia, nor do I think he is dying for that job, but you'd have to at least look at it.
