  1. Not sure who all is on the team but it will be players from across the state, I do know Owensboro had two selected, Madisonville one, and Daviess County one. Other than that I am assuming the entire list will be released soon as players found out Christmas Eve.

  2. Last night was a great time for all three teams to start off the 2015 season with some good competition. The games started with Owensboro vs Graves County under a 10/10 format from the 40 yd line, followed by Madisonville vs Graves County under the same format, the night finished off with a Madisonville vs. Owensboro full field scrimmage, specials dead, and some JV action at the end. The games were offered to fans free of admission while donations were accepted by the Maroon Cheerleaders for the family of fallen Hopkinsville Tiger JaYvon Quarles with $1,200 collected from all fans to help with any expenses the family may have.

    Scores reported were:

    Owensboro 34 Graves 14

    Madisonville 21 Graves 7

    Madisonville 7 Owensboro 7

    JV - Madisonville 0 Owensboro 0

  3. Lost 20 of 22 starters or something along those lines didn't they? They'll be back in the mix. Always are. Here is guessing they have a ridiculous schedule. They could be a 4-6, 5-5 District Champ or 2 seed and be a handful come playoffs.

Not quite that many starters but a good number of them, will return some key positions on defense, a few Skill and Line positions on Offense , and have some quality younger guys ready to step up, Schedule is definately not easy with Evansville Harrison, Owensboro, and McCracken to start off with and other tough games throughout. Hopkinsville and Madisonville will compete for the district championship but the Region is rough as always with most of the Warren County schools, Allen County, and Franklin Simpson.

  4. The experience of playing one more game and being on the field with some guys I haven't played with in a while or didn't get a chance to before can't be matched, Crowd was great and the atmosphere at War Memorial was just as remembered, Hope it's the same for the Tilghman game as I know it was a good fundraiser for the athletic department, I would recommend it to anyone who gets the chance with their school.

  5. I just think from a shear talent standpoint that Madisonville should be doing better over the last few years. I've been tooting the horn of the Maroons because most people just look at their record in the past and assume they weren't very good. However they've always passed the "look" test. I do understand that the "look" test isn't always accurate but they've had talent over the past few years like the kid that went to Michigan (Jeremy Clark I think). Look at this year's Maroon squad...from a shear talent standpoint, I'd give them the advantage over OHS without hesitation.

I'm not as plugged in to Madisonville football so maybe the coach is maxing their potential. I dunno.....

Understandable comments, 2011 (Clarks year) the Maroons lost a close game to a very good Franklin Simpson team, and over the past few years and in the past the look test doesn't always show other parts of a team, there have been underachieving years and hopefully this isn't one of them, either way Owensboro is tough team and the rematch will be a good game if Madisonville can get over the FS hump

  6. All in all, I don't feel good about OHS making it to the state championship game. They are too predictable and good teams will take advantage of that. A couple of things working in their favor are that OHS is talented and Madisonville (who may have more talent) isn't well coached. I still think North Oldham probably comes out of the west.

Would like to know your reasoning when you say Madisonville isn't well coached, over the last few years they have played with and beaten owensboro. Over the last 4 years and I believe a couple before this series has been competitive.

    2011 Maroons 49-6

    2012 Maroons 13-9, Devils 31-7

    2013 Devils 41-13

    2014 Devils 29-22

  7. Highlands predicted schedule via FortThomasMatters:

Don't mark it in pen, but if you are trying to plan your November plans and want to see the Birds in the playoffs, you can use this guide. Depending on what happens in the 3rd round game, with a likely matchup between Cov Cath and Johnson Central, Highlands could end up with either 3 or 4 home games at David A. Cecil Memorial Stadium.

Ratings via Lexington Herald Leader's, Dave Cantrall. 4A ranking in parentheses. Highlands is ranked #6 overall and #1 in 4A:

1st Round Playoff: Friday, November 7. Boyd County (#29) @ Highlands.

2nd Round Playoff: Friday, November 14. (PREDICTION) Ashland Blazer (#13) @ Highlands.

3rd Round Playoff: Friday, November 21. (PREDICTION) Cov Cath #20, (#4) @ Highlands OR Highlands @ Johnson Central #12, (#2) (Paintsville)

    Semi-Finals: Friday, November 28. (PREDICTION) Boyle Co. #16, (#3) @ Highlands OR Lexington Catholic (#7) @Highlands

State Championship game at Western Kentucky University: Saturday, December 6. (PREDICTION) Owensboro (#5) or Franklin-Simpson (#9).

There's some team ranked in 4A that might give Owensboro and FS a decent game, can't quite think of their name right now

  8. This year's Senior class has done alright; you have a right to be proud. But for a little perspective: winning one playoff game each year it isn't all that impressive to folks around the state...and that's who we all are talking to on this site.

In the last four years Murray has won either two or three playoff games each time. That's pretty durn good.

And for Madisonville to get 'em (& their new coach) this year...regardless of the circumstances...is a real feather in your cap. Here's hoping you guys can keep it up.

I've got plenty of perspective and understand what Murray has done in 2A, they are a strong program and up to this point won the last 3 meetings, would expect more support instead of doubt from someone who has a site with Madisonville History

  9. Paradise, I'm about as "Maroons" as they come, but ya gotta be careful with the chest thumping. It's been a decade since Madisonville won more than one playoff game in a season and the team is barely over the .500 mark overall during that time.

Having said that, I think Brock Shoulders is a heckuva man and I wish him nothing but the best. 7-2 is an awfully good start, but it's important just to enjoy when good things happen. No need to down the opposition.

Didn't mean to sound like any chest thumping coming from my way, just tried to correct some uninformed fans that started this thread, this Madisonville team is very humble and will continue working game to game, also dont think I downed any team just have a history with Murray and it's always nice to beat them, seems like every post you make and I know your pro Maroons based on your website but you keep bringing up the past, this years senior class is 29-16 through 4 years so I'd say that's not a bad run

  10. Still dealing with some of the same issues that date back to Milan and some of the earlier weeks. Thought they might have ironed these things out over the last month. Russellville is banging on the door' date=' and will likely have one final chance to knock it down in a few weeks.[/quote']

Saw Russellville at camp at Campbellsville University this summer, having not seen the game but unless something has changed I don't think they will be disciplined enough when push comes to shove in the playoffs, Judging by your picture a member of my family has been sitting by you for years, wish you luck the rest of the way

  11. Reminds me of the cardinals of the 70's. Way to one demensioal.losing the offensive coordinator is really showing up right now. We are so predictable. I'll take it, but not very good offensively right now.

That offense from the 70's has won Mayfield more than one state championship including my senior year, with an 8-1 record and the only loss coming by way of a double overtime 2pt conversion id say the cards are primed for another run, Caldwell will tell a lot and without having seen the Russellville film yet I still pick Mayfield in a close one, Caldwell did good against the run against Murray but stacked the box, won't be able to do that next week

  12. Murray was a totally different team after #3(don't know his name) went down against Caldwell Co. He impacted the game on many different levels. Their running game struggled after he went down along with a lot of fumbles on option plays.

Find another way to discredit the win for Madisonville, Murray lost to a good team, Murray is a good team, injuries happen football games go on, the Maroons have been without their #1 rusher for 3 weeks

  13. Not to surprised by this score. After watching MNH a few weeks back against Owensboro and last week Murray against Caldwell Co. I felt Murray's overall team speed would be a issue for MNH. Honestly I think MNH is either over valued as the # 4 team in Class 4A or this class is WAY down.

Pretty sure the last two lines of this post give me plenty of reason to defend a bunch of high school kids and a pretty good football team, no #3 didn't play but Murray had to abandon their running game and throw in the second half, one touchdown was a 4th down pass with a blown coverage

  14. No they were never deserving of that slot at 4. But hey I guess it takes this kind of loss to know more.

    Real top 4

    1 FTH

    2 Owensboro

    3 LC

    4 Boyle

Might want to check Khsaa scoreboard before you start bashing and talking about a game that was won by Madisonville 27-15, and should have been 35-6, liked this post better when I called out the geniuses who bashed Madisonville in their earlier post so I'll try again before it gets deleted
