  1. One thing you have to respect about the Aces is that they're going to be fundamentally sound, year in, year out. Coach Edge does a great job getting the most out of what he's got. Some years he has more than others. While he's got some very good HS football players, this team doesn't appear to have any real stud athletes that can take over a game or break 2-3 plays in a game that gets them over the hump, just good, fundamentally sound kids that play hard, smart and as a team.

In that regard, they're a mirror image of most Mayfield teams.. The difference this year is Mayfield is still tough, hard-nosed, fundamentally sound and smart, but, this particular year, they also have a plethora of talented athletes with better than normal speed and big play ability on offense and while I've heard several people question the Cardinal D throughout the year, I think those same people are going to be shocked at the D they're putting on the field right now. There DL isn't their best ever, but, very adequate, while the DBs cover and tackle in space as well as any they've had in this recent run, although, they do lack height if you're looking for a knock, while the LBs are outstanding. They're fast, aggressive, great tacklers and when they hit you, it's with a violent purpose and that's from the 1st series to the last. Teams may be able to get a couple of scores on them in a game, maybe even 3 or 4 with turnovers or penalties, but, I don't think anyone in 2a football is going to be able to keep this team under 30..

  2. You didn't hear me say anything like this last year and the Cardinals were at home. This years team is much, much better than last years unit, if by nothing else, by experience. But, the real difference is offensively.. Last year, if you could cover Kennemore, you could stop them.. Many more weapons this year and a more experienced line.. That score I projected was being generous..

  3. Cardinals hitting on all cylinders right now, both offensively and defensively.. I think the speed and big play ability of Harrison, Lumpson and Murrell at the WR slots won't allow OB Cath to get extra men in the box and when it's 5 on 5 or 5 on 4 blocking, that opens up a lot of holes for Bright to do his thing, plus Arnett can tuck it and get big chunks of yardage. The problem for OBC is they also like to play fast and spread teams out, but, this isn't a Mayfield team you want to get into a shootout with, because if they get in that groove, it will get ugly quick. I think OBC must try and dink and dump and work the clock with a short passing game mixed in with the run and an occasional big play offer. Otherwise, it'll be a quick onslaught and out of hand early.. I see Mayfield taking this one in the 49-21 range with OBC getting a late score against the JV unit..

  4. I'd have given Holy Cross a great shot after what had happened the past couple of weeks.. Beechwood beating NCC handily and HC manhandling Lloyd, but, after the way HC struggled against WV tonight, I think NCC has their way like they did in the 1st one..

  5. Mayfield played a near perfect game and I agree, if they play like they did tonight, they're going to be awfully tough to beat, but, I think most people expected this type of game tonight against an outmanned Butler team.. Starting next week is when it gets tough for everyone remaining in the AA playoffs..

  6. Hazard and Pikeville could be really interesting and I'm sure that Paintsville and Raceland will be a battle to the end. I think Russellville and Beechwood wins big.

I agree, except I think Pikeville handles Hazard by 2 or 3 scores. KCD is playing much better ball late in the season. If the game was at KCD, I may have given them a punchers chance, but, at Beechwood, It's likely to be a 3 or 4 TD game..
