  1. Throw EVERY stat out the window it will be a war and a great tournament.

Toughest draw imo was NCC matching up with CovCath and then having to play the winner of Dixie/Cooper.

Highlands gets a rematch with Lloyd and will be better prepared for the hot perimeter shooters and the Bray kid. They could sneak into the Semis if They get the same effort They got last night vs NCC.

Boone Co vs Holmes will be a great 1st round game.

If the CCH team that beat Holy Cross in the district shows up on Wednesday night, it could be a quick exit for NCC.

  2. 1. Which teams were better than Dixie that they beat or competed with? Not LexCath. Not GRC at the time.

    2. They do not have enough offensive talent to survive if they are in foul trouble. You can't have Nick R getting in foul trouble being overly aggressive defensively. They need Tobler in the game as he's the only "post" player they have.

    3. While I agree on "CAN" I don't see them beating Dixie. Dixie didn't play well last night and still led by 20. This CCH team has exceeded all expectations so I'm not bagging on them. I like the way they play. The future looks bright.

. Disagree again. nick R and Tobler need to play very aggressive defense for this team to have a chance. They are both replaceable. You nailed it -- players are playing soft defense to stay on the floor. The result -- a very ordinary team a very beatable team.
  3. It's hard to say CCH looked their best with two players that only played a few minutes combined.

I'd argue Tobler didn't get enough touches tonight. They had success early getting him good looks and went away. Had success early in the 3rd then threw two bad passes and went away again. He's the only post presence they have.

You're a fan of seniors playing. I thought Conner Cleves gave a lot of good minutes tonight. My guess is it's the most minutes he's played this year.

I'd suggest that some players not give the coach the "stink eye" when they're removed and not do a blow-by when he sticks his hand out when you're coming off of the floor.

. I was at the game and didn't see any "stink eyes" or "blow-bys". Regardless, this team didn't lose because the players aren't good cheerleaders. (see my other posts which explain why they are losing the big games). The crazies do a fine job with the cheer leading.
  4. Silly comparison.

CCH struggled on the perimeter last season - their inside game carried them. You need both.

Plus, Tobler isn't the focal point of the offense.

Lack of consistent outside shooting is the key issue right now.

This team isn't beating Dixie. Too many matchup problems. Dixie didn't play that well tonight and still had a 20 point lead. Different level right now.

. Earlier in the season, CCH was winning or competing in big games against teams better than Dixie by playing smash mouth full court defense. This aggressive defense created turnovers and defensive rebounds. Then they used team speed to create transition opportunities on the offensive side. Early in the season they were setting records for team fouls, but that was indicative of very aggressive defense. IMO that was a formula that could have won them the ninth region crown. Now they have gone soft on defense. They have fewer defensive rebounds, turnovers, team fouls and, as a result, less transition opportunities. They are settling into a half court offense with 4 guards and Tobler down low. They are not big enough or strong enough to win in the ninth region using this half court set. They have become very ordinary and easy to defend. BTW you're wrong -- CCH can beat any team in the ninth region.

I am a fan of using the talent (at any age) you have to be competitive in the big games. Half court offense with Tobler as your post man is not going to win the ninth region IMO. Thelen was a good big post man last year. How did that work out?
  6. See my previous posts several weeks ago, the 4 guard and one center set for CCH would not be effective in games against teams like Holy Cross and Dixie. Tonight CCH looked best with Hayden and Bo Schuh in at the same time. But that set only lasted a few minutes before the guards re- populated the floor. I was really hopeful at the beginning of the season because CCH was playing a high speed transition game that gave them a chance to be competitive. But now they are simple to defend. They walk it up the court, try to force it down to Tobler and if thats available a guard launches up a three.
should have been -- "if that's NOT available launch up a three."

  8. I don't have the stats sheet in front of me, but you did see the job that young Mr. Heppler was doing, didn't you? The young man played his best game as a member of the Varsity not only the "O" side but the "D" side of the ball as well.

Agreed. The sophomore Heppler got started on the "O" side by working off high screens set by seniors. Great to see upper classman helping to free up a young shooter. Not something I've seen at CCH in a long time.

  9. I agree. What has happened to Hayden?
Good question. After the first 10 games, Hayden was the second leading scorer and first in rebounds. Very productive early. He has been slowed by injuries to both ankles. Played last night in the first half for a few minutes with braces on both ankles and IMO looked good, but didn't play in the second half. Oddly, the 3 seniors played very few minutes in the second half of the game. Hopefully, the kid can have a few more good games before his career at CCH is over. That senior class has been through the ringer.
  10. Amazing that CCH loses on the road in overtime to a team that was expected to beat them badly and so many people comment on the things wrong with CCH. To me, CCH looks like a tough, physical team that is peaking at the right time. IMO they will go on a run and win the district. The big floor at Regents Hall favors CCH because of their speed, conditioning and passing skills. Campbell is a special player, but it takes him a while to get down the floor. I hope Hayden can get healthy, more ankle problems last night. Hayden really helps them get out in transition and they will need him in the district tournament.

  11. The only thing that could prevent Holmes v Beechwood and HC v CCH in the district is Beechwood beating HC.
Anything can happen in high school bb, but not likely that Beechwood beats Holmes. Assuming Holmes takes care of business and beats Beechwood, then if HC is beat by CCH in the opening round of the district tournament, does that end HC's season? And, of course, the same for CCH losing to HC in the opening round of the district?
  12. Tomahawk you are mistaken if you think Tobler hasn't become a force down low for CovCath. I'm also pretty sure a guy with Coach Ruthsatz resume may be a better judge of talent than you. I may be going out on a limb There though. LOL
. Tobler is a fine post player. However, he needs help to handle teams with size. Coach Ruthsatz isn't effectively utilizing some highly productive forwards. The team and Tobler are more productive when one or more of those forwards are on the floor. By the way, those forwards have no problem running the floor and passing effectively. Numbers don't lie. This team simply hasn't been productive using the 4 guard set.
  13. Cleve's strength is not the inside. Ryan should be leading the team in those stats with his size, but again, I do not think this team's strength is inside. They need to utilize the inside play some to free up the guards. Tobler and possibly Hayden can help with this. As far as their losses - did you really think they would beat Scott County??
Wrong again. Tobler alone hasn't free things up for the guards. He's not a dominant inside player and teams don't drop back defenders to cover him. IMO the 4 guard, 1 center set isn't working. Let's leave it at that. And yes, this team can beat anybody, including Scott County.
  14. How is it working? Seems they are doing ok. Also, IMO they need to play their strengths.
Disagree. 4 straight losses (Holmes, NCC, Colerain and Scott County) with the 4 guard set. It's not working and it's not going to work in the district and regional tournaments. Just Ok works against Beechwood and Highlands, but ok is not going to win the district or the region. They have the strength to win the region.
