Great to hear. Kid works hard.....
-
They wanted him to commit by a certain date and he didn't want to.
Tough decision for a kid to make quickly i guess unless it's his number one choice going in. There will be more offers for Raisor the way he's been throwing the ball.
-
Didn't Raisor get an offer as well? That's a loaded freshman staff....
-
Heard that Luke is starting today vs Yankees at 1:00 and it's on Foxsports1. How cool is that....?
-
Didn't Raisor pitch Wednesday? If so, he's done.
-
They plan on playing 4 today?
-
PBR says:
Breese - Murray State
Womack - Western Kentucky
-
Yes at HP.

I'm sure that someone will be able to officially confirm protocol on this one. However, I have heard that it's considered to be bad form and frowned upon. It seems that a lot of teams have kids that play JV but see varsity innings throughout the season and I can see those players playing JV. Bringing a lights out Varsity (no JV innings) pitcher/player down for one game would probably shake things up a bit.:sneaky:

Mitch was fun to watch. He just kept chipping away at that them. Coach Baoini will have a great story to tell his grandchildren when he talks about his 100th win. Congrats to both Mitchell Jones and JB....... :ylsuper:

I heard Maile went yard. Any other details? Nice win for the Birds!
Bomb over the right field fence. Hit a tree and branches started falling off the thing.
-
Congratulations to Todd Ramey, Coach Baoini, and the Highlands Baseball Community. Georgetown is getting a good one. Go Birds...!!!

Well, let's hope Ludlow's season goes better than it's off-season... Geez
Top players:
Slone - recovering from eye surgery
Eads - had an emergency appendectomy
Lyons - got taken away in an ambulance from last night's basketball game...throat injury.
Durham - (knock on wood) is healthy as far as I know...
That seems like an inordinate amount of bad luck for a small school team. Wishing them luck this year!
That's a rough start. Hopefully, everyone will be able to recover over the next couple of weeks. Remember, they are young and quick healers.

In the championship game of the NKY JV Regional Tournament held at CovCath, NewCath Jr. John "the sharp-shooter" Ludwig has the "perfect game" in the NewCath 65-50 victory. Ludwig goes 5/5 from the field, including 4/4 from beyond the arc, and 2/2 from the FT line to tally a team high 16 pionts. :ylsuper: He is in range when he pulls in the parking lot.
Jr. Brian Anderson and Fr. Brennan Hall both chip in 14 each for the Breds., and So. Austin Neff with a solid 9 pts. CovCath Fr. AJ Mayer had a game high of 18, while So. Andy Kuykendall and Fr. Aiden Ruthsatz go for 10 each.
Both teams shot extremely well from the free throw line, CovCath 15/15 & NewCath 16/20, but the difference in this one was the ability to knock down the "triple". NewCath outscored CovCath from the land of 3 by a 27-3 margin.
CovCath - 16/29 2pt, 1/11 3pt, 15/15 FT's
NewCath - 11/24 2pt, 9/19 3pt, 16/20 FT's
NewCath 21-10-15-19---65
CovCath 14-11-13-12---50
Got to love that Ludwig kid........Nice win for NCC......

Absolutley right. Baseball is no longer a show up and play sport. It requires some form of year round dedication towards improving skills to stay competetive. Especially, when you have 50 kids that want to start Varsity. Some kids aren't interested in putting in the effort/work required to compete for spots against high school, summer team, and Fall ball players that are working on baseball in the offseason, and are still wondering if they are going to make the team themselves. And thats ok. I looked at the names that were listed as potential exodus members and all have the athletism and talent to excel at any sport they choose. In my opinion, it comes down to how bad a player wants it. Plus, Kids are smarter than we give them credit for. They can assess the talent pool, do the math, and make their own informed decision on whether they want to work for a spot or just move on. IMO, it's a choice.
-
So you are trying to tell me that 2 kids that have not played baseball in the last several years have a chance to make the team over juniors that have been a part of the program for the last 3 to 4 years? If that happens, you may see a mass exodus from the program. I would sure hope that junior or younger kids would not be pushed aside for two kids that did not want to be a part of the program until they were seniors. I will be sure to stay tuned to these developments.
It sounds like EVERYONE will be working hard to earn a spot wherever they can get it. My bet is that only the strongest and/or most talented will survive. Field the best team you can field. Varsity is boss and JV players will need to fight to get moved up. Injuries, slumps, and breakout performances will determine the Varsity roster on any given week. Let the revolving door games begin.

Too early grasshopper.
Time will tell my friend. At least two seniors who weren't there in 2014 were trying out at midnight madness.
Btw first practice in the field house tomorrow.

Do these seniors have game? What are their primary positions and can they pitch?

Any discussion about top catchers in the 9th has to include Luke Hennigan from Highlands. The kid has been starting since 8th grade.
I've always liked Marshall Rich from Ryle. He hustles and is sound defensively.

Won't Heck be the starting 2nd baseman?
Here is my list of starters..
1st. Martin/Mills
2nd. Heck
3rd. Ramey/Ball
SS. Whitford
LF. Murray/ Kreeger/Noe
CF. Venemann/Dougherty/Noe
RF. Walkenhorst
C. Hennigan/Doty
Forgot about Heck. My mistake.
-
So you name 4 guys for outfielder spots, what happens to the three that do not take that spot? I will give my opinions on each after having seen them play. Kreeger has a solid bat, but may help this team quite a bit on the mound. No doubt he can play. Walkenhorst is a 1B and IMO has the best glove at that position than anyone in the program. Makes decent contact, but needs to be a stronger presence at the plate. Dougherty is currently injured and would be the best defensive outfielder of the bunch. Not as fast as Murray or Vennaman, but I would take my chances that he would get to as many balls or more than them in the outfield. Of the four, probably has the most power and would just need to be more consistent day in and day out. Beal is the fastest of the bunch and can go get them in the outfield as well. Speed is a plus on the basepaths, just needs to make better use of that speed by hitting the ball on the ground and working on bunting for base hits. All four of these kids could/would start at most programs in Northern Kentucky. Second base could be a big question mark. Perhaps Austin Mayhew can be more consistent with the leather and earn that spot. Has a nice bat which would be a plus for sure.
Both Walkenhorst and Dougherty can bring a left handed bat to the line-up which could be a plus in their favor. Krieger will be battling for the role of the 5th or 6th starter IMO with a top 4 of Jones, Martin, Raisor, and Bunning. Maybe it's time to start calling out who will provide middle relief if needed and who will close the games out.
What about Mitchel Cain at 2nd?
-
Who are the potential candidates for the 2nd base spot? Outfield contenders: Krieger, Walkenhorst, Dougherty, and Beal...?
-
Congratulations, Mitchell Jones...!!! Hard Work Paying Off...!!!:ylsuper:
-
Right.....I've always had great baseball instincts ...but my fastball topped out at 62 mph. :idunno:

Trent Kincaid (Simon Kenton) Good wheels, bat, glove, and high velocity infield arm. Great instincts. He's definitely a NKY kid to watch!
Cream of the crop this year?

I saw Trusty this past season and he looks like a "catcher". Nice receiving and I think that I saw a 2.0 pop time on PBR. I didn't see his at bats though. Do you go with a guy that "can catch" or with a "catcher"?
