They are going to refuse to play for a coach that is unknown and hasn't been hired? How is not working out to improve and not playing hurting anyone other than the kid making that choice? This sounds like upset kids being acting like upset kids and once the smoke clears, they will likely end up playing football.

I don’t disagree with you and know there are adults trying to talk some sense into the kids.

I will say that most of this process and the exit of the last coach were not done properly. They were given no reason for fire so the kids are acting emotionally without any information! Many of the adults are too!

Some rumors are swirling that there have been 17 applicants put in for the position.  A hiring time is working to narrow down the applicants but interviews haven't been coordinated yet.  At this rate, the team will miss out on spring practice.  I have heard that they attempted to open the weight room but only 4-6 kids show up, none of which received considerable time in the past.  Whoever takes this job will be fighting an incredibly steep uphill battle to change the culture and try to draw in players.  Rumors around returning starters planning to move or making comments they won't play.

There is a strength and conditioning coordinator for the district that tried opening the weight room. He does not have a relationship with any of the athletes.

As I said previously the word on rocket lane is that many are either leaving or refusing to play. I guess we will see what happens once the hire is made.

An AD's job is to manage all sports. If he can't help with college coach visits while coaching, he isn't the right person for the job. He doesn't teach, does he? If not, all day to do the rest of the job above his coaching.

My source says that it is a full-time position.

I was also told that the girl's basketball coach had some legal issues and was relieved of duties, as well as the assistant coach. I believe the AD has a background in basketball, and SHE has played before and stepped in to assist with the role.

I am unsure of any other details at this time.

That would only be part of it, right?  The other part would be how long the job has been open and the lack of excitement surrounding the job.

Definitely sad considering this is a target period for college coaches to visit. You have a kid returning who is an 1800 yard rusher among some other good talents and no one to advocate for them or represent them in the building. It would seem the administration doesn’t understand how this is affecting kids.

My Sr. year at Boyle our biggest win that year was a huge upset of Lincoln County.  Boyle found success down the road with the right combination of Coach, administration and support.  It can be done, but you really need all three.  Lincoln never can get the right three at the same time, but it can be done.

I don't think there is a better post than this one. Lincoln along with many other places can't get all 3.

Your post and this thread got me thinking about college coach comparisons and coach searches.

When it comes to coach search drama, is Eddie James more like Jim Harbaugh or Bobby Petrino?

Definitely Bobby P returning to Arkansas!

We will have to agree to disagree here.

That's fine, but FC is the same school that hired a guy from a neighboring county who lost to Franklin County that year, and that was the only game FC won. That wouldn't happen anywhere that takes the game seriously. I am very familiar with the situation, and I can tell you Coach James and the staff have done a great job with that program(Youth League, Middle School, and High School.) That is why they are successful. It isn't because football is taken seriously in the capital city. Look at the many posts in this thread: the coaching stipend at an independent school in the same city is more than at the county school level. PC will land Burns, and as I said before, they will visit Kroger in the near future because they get "Football."

I said maybe. No way of ever actually knowing.

That being said, going from Franklin County to Pulaski County doesn't seem, at least to me, as even a lateral opportunity. If he is the hire then that's a homerun. I just have a hard time of seeing the circumstances around it. Teacher pay is better, the immediate team success favors FC by a wide margin, and the overall talent pool is superior. And a previous poster mentioned about getting away from Boyle County in 4A just to line it up against Bowling Green in 5A, I don't see that as a valid enough reason to make a change like this.

Team success is because of the individuals around the program and the foundation work laid. Overall, PC is better when it comes to coaching football. There are just some places in this state that understand Football (PC being one of those), and they like to win. Everyone else signs up for their KHSAA members-only jacket and hopes to have a good run. That is the difference!
