Swanson was great but I thought Barnes was key for SK, the GC junk defense left him wide open on perimeter and he knocked them down in spots where the Walton kids did not.
Grant stays in it for awhilesome at the line a perfect 20 for 20. Good luck to both teams next week.

GChoops are you getting some blue in that Buckeye blood, about fell over when you gave a UK player some love..lol!
Nice thread, I would throw in Nolan Daugherty for Walton, relentless on defense & gave WV some much needed toughness. His 3rd qrt. Injury hurt WV in loss to GC.
As for Darious Miller out of high school rank 42 nationally & could went to any college he wanted.
Side note Eloy Vargas was ranked 26 that same year, might give some perspective to dads worried about sons not making all region teams on other threads. Rankings...like all region not that important. If kid continues to work hard like UK#1 he will get his accolades.

Williamstown was Rachel Montgomery (8th grader)
She is going to be a nice player, really has potential to be something special.

Not only GC players! Did you see the list because you have a buddy in Owen Co. too?
Actually it was shown to me by a member of Grant County coaching staff.
Again I agree GC players were all region caliber and the system of one coach counting votes is flawed. All I'm asking is what motivation would the coach have for leaving GC players off the list.
-
Have you seen the list that was published? Have you talked to any other coaches that participated in counting the votes?
Again this should probably be on another thread but it keeps going and seems like I'm missing something. Is there a history as to why the Owen Co. would alter the votes against the Grant Co. players. I agree I think that is an awfully strong statement unless it has some basis or history. I didn't see any reasoning why GC fans felt that way on other thread.
I did see the list with final votes of players who did make it.

Most up & down game I've been to all year boys or girls. SK has really improved and backcourt quickness is tremendous. Congrats to WV on another district title, Courtney Sandlin was dominating in first half.

Pure entertainment in this thread! Wow....I must not have a life.
Reminds me of one of the message boards in the endzone back in the good please days. Lol!

I would like to apologize to GC fans & especially players, my comment about GC's program should of been saved for another day.
This thread was about how hard GC's boys played last night and flat out earned a win. My comment was probably spurred by remarks made to me by people who show up forto district games and really know nothing about either program.
Once again Congrats to coach Hicks & staff for great defensesive game plan & to players for their execution.
We can debate the schedule, defections, program after the season on different thread. Give us something to get through summer.
-
so with the talent that Coach Hicks has now that would have been developed as you say by your buddy right! Enough said! Enjoy the rest of your basketball season!
Don't think I ever said that....not even sure what kids he coached but I think Trevor would be only one left.
Best of luck to Grant boys rest of the way, I have nothing but respect for how hard those boys play. If this years Walton team had the toughness & will to rebound of Grants players they would still be playing.
-
Most parents feel the program is headed in the right direction! So don't think u speak for the parents, I know the parents. On a side note, the 2 Walton Verona All region players, Hargett and McNeil scored 26 last night. Grant County Region Rejects Trevor Hunt and Tyler Carr had 37
BGcat, do you really think the majority of parents and players say 4th grade through varsity are happy with program? Why so many defections of good players no longer playing? I think this years junior class is now completely gone.
If your a longtime Grant fan do you think Coach Wendroff would approve of current Grant program from top to bottom?
-
Also old school your comments are exactly why people can't stand Walton! You think you're better than everybody else! So keep running your mouth and hide behind a screen name.
Not hiding behind screen name....played at Wtown mid 80's, always lived in Grant Co., and have kids Walton school...that should make it pretty obvious for most GC fans.
-
I agree Tyler & Trevor deserve to make all region, but not over Hargett or Mcneil. This is voted on by the regions coaches not walton fans, I saw the final votes and Tyler & Trevor received no respect.
BGcat what is your opinion why those two players didn't receive more of coaches votes?

Late 70's through early 90's of course Grant's best most consistent years, usually top 5 in region, but back then not only competed against Scott Co in region but also in district's. Late 90's up until last couple years not as good but very competitive while playing tough schedule against some top teams in state like Scott Co, lex Catholic, etc. And always had system trying to develop young talent...a "Program".
Now playing very weak schedule, many kids who were very successful in junior high no longer playing. Parents of younger kids say basically no developmental program now.
-
Not a sore loser the Grant kids played their hearts out, dominated boards, got most of 50/50 loose balls and deserved the win. Good kids I have actually coached some of them in aau.
I live in Grant & it is just a fact the program not where it use to be and most of parents & community feels same way.
-
Congrats to Braves, kids played extremely hard, especially Mario dominating boards. Walton's weaknesses of rebounding & toughness caught up with them.
But the Grant fanbase & basketball program is a different story. A school the size of Grant & one time strong basketball tradition has been reduced to acting like won super bowl after finally beating an A school. I realize it is an upset anytime a Grant County boys or girls basketball team beats a Walton team from 3rd grade through varsity but based on school size it should be other way around.
Storming the court,.......fans, parents, school & basketball leaders celebrating hours after winning first round district game. Plus the comments on here just point out how far Grants basketball program has fallen.
I know beating Walton on basketball court is a huge deal to Grant but as Barry Sanders would say "act like you've been there before".
-
Was talking with another fan at the Walton/ Rule game last night, how is these 6A schools do not have more basketball talent? Walton an A school had the 3 most talented kids on the floor, maybe 4coming the way Helton is playing and 3 of them are sophs.
I know Walton for instance has a great elementary program which I think has developed some tremendous talent on both boys and girls team for a small school. Think the same can be said for other A schools like NCC, Brossart, Owen, &u Gallatin.
Just amazes me these bigger schools can't pull more talent out of such a larger student population.
Is alot of potential basketball talent lost to the football programs at these schools?
-
Called this one, Walton nothing to play for, NCC looking for revenge, at NCC, NCC's tremendous pressure defense horrible combination for the WV girls....obviously.
-
Sorry accidently hit post before spell check.
Think freshman record something like 14-6 with top players missing multiple games. These boys in the summer beat alot of teams with top freshman listed on another thread. If Helton continues to developed into missing big man Walton's soph & freshman can be special.
-
Talked to Andrew Hurley's patents he will be back shortly if he has no setbacks.
If Helton plays like that Walton a different team.
Saw on another a fan said didn't think Walton had much of a freshman team. They have battled injuries to best players...the past 2 weeks have beaten Conner & Grant by about 30 &finishing had Boone beat up 4 with minute to go.
-
Very interesting and informative thread. Thanks guys for all the links and information.
-
Walton has played 7 games against top 25 and Owen Co....That kind of schedule will benefit WV come tournament time.
-
Congrats to Rianna! Great player and classy young lady!

If ur bigger and just jump over people and don't devolope basketball skills that catches up with u
