  1. Well said and I agree. I think this all stems from the fact he is adjusting this year and people are making the assumptions as to why. No coach knows everything and is conintually growing throughout the years. Coaches who are stubborn and refuse to adapt are the ones that will never be succesful. I do however wish Coach M had a presence in the feeder schools to help motiviate our up and coming players.

JV Coach Downs coaches the middle school kids that are coming to Boone during the summer and has coached most of the current Varsity players since they've been in either elementary and middle school. That's what Coach McQueary has in place for upcoming players. I've usually see him at 2-3 middle school games each year. He actually communicates with most of the middle school coaches weekly.

  2. Bottom line. After the loss to Conner in the 2008 33rd, a group of parents tried to get Coach M relieved of his duties and their witch hunt failed. There are some who chose to transfer and some who just continue to bash away at the man. Sadly, I think some use this forum to try and discredit a man who gives his heart and soul to his team, asst. coaches and his players. He is a tremendous person, great game planner and a great teacher of the game. He is a dedicated, tireless worker who puts his everything into preparing his teams for their battles that lie ahead. I have a very good friend who is a former high school coach. We talk often and I asked him if he missed coaching. His terse reply was that he misses coaching tremendously, but the parents are what drove him out of something he truly loved. That is sad. IMHO, it's the disgruntled parents of players that cause ALL of the problems. Just let coaches coach and become spectators. Let your kids enjoy playing ball and being a teammate. You are the problem, realize it. Sidenote: would love to know how many of Coach M's detractors actually played high school varsity basketball.

Well said! and I agree with everything you've said about Coach McQueary. Last season (2) of his main players quit on him and did their teammates dirty by QUITTI NG on everyone and then people have the nerve to get on here and dog the coach because they can't keep their own kids in line. Amazing! But the really enjoyable thing was Boone still made it to the final four game of the region after that distraction. Everyone at Boone has moved on and people in that group should also.

  3. I also note that curiously enough, Boone does not report any individual statistics this year like they have in the past and like most other teams do. What is the reasoning for that?

Not sure whay they aren't reported but players and parents have access. I can tell you that Trevan Brown is averaging a double/double - 21pts./ 11 rebounds per game, McQueary - 15pts. a game, Downs - 6 assists per game and Crabtree - 7 rebounds a game. I'm surprised Ryan Ernst doesn't have Trevan Brown in the "Big Man" discussion with Geisler and Thelan based off stats, Boone beating New Cath last week (Brown - 17pts. and Geisler - 16 pts.) and Trevan's proven ability against top state teams. Against, Eastern, the #1 team in the state, Trevan had 31 pts. and 15 rebounds, a team with (3) D1 signee's.

  4. Great game best I have witnessed Boone play this year.

Boone played really well until the last 3 minutes of the game, but probably their best played game of the year was against the #1 team in the state, Eastern. Boone lost by 7, but had to foul at the end. If you can hang with that team and had a very good chance to win it, you can hang with anyone.

Last night proved to the players themselves that they are still a good team without Montgomery and can beat top teams. They are beginning to get readjusted without Montgomery. Great confidence booster.

I've watched New Cath play about 3-4 times this year and it's absolutely amazing that the 9th region refs will not call fouls on him like they do on other big guys in the 9th. I don't know why but I guess good for Jake. He's a very good player and Trevan Brown played just as well last night.

  5. Seems like Boone is doing many things that are uncharacteristic of previous years play. Playing zone defenses, multiple players jacking up threes and not utilizing the post on every posession. Sounds like a complete different gameplan since the coaches sons are the ones playing.

Obviouslly you weren't at the game. Downs took one three point shot.

  6. Trevan Brown is a beast. He is a blast to watch play. He has started out great with back to back double double games with 25 and 23 points. He received player of the game from Tri State Internet Sports. Walton tried to get rough with him and talk some trash but it seemed to only motivate him more. I've seen Hodges, Pike, and Staufer play so far this year and it's hard to believe Trevan hasn't been in the Best Big Man discussions this year. On a side note Boone cheering section gave some good laughs all in good taste. It's good to see the support.

  7. It would have been nice to have Schwartz QB and gel with the team and Thompson wouuld have been a good second runner to Oppenheimer. Unfortunately boone needed changes also in other positions like corner on "D". I would have loved to seen Jeremiah Williams get more time at corner this year. More passing to Trevan Brown #88. If anyone saw his catches against Cooper and Ryle they know what I mean. Too late now though. Yes they need to change their philosophy. Good Luck to teams in post season play.

  8. Travis will be in the top three this year if not the top 9th Region player. He averaged a double double all but three games this past year for Boone. He was in double figures for 2 out of 3 stats almost every game, scoring, rebounding and/or assists. He's an all around player that can give all aspects of all game including his exciting dunks!

  9. Travis Montgomery from Boone is the most versatile player in the 9th. He can play all 5 positions. He sees the floor great and can make fantastic passees, he's a great swingman with his athletic ability and ability to hit the 3 and he can play down low posting up players. He can jump through the roof. He had some of the best dunks in the area this past year and averaged a double double almost every game for Boone this past season. He placed 2nd this summer in a national dunk contest. He has got stronger and can jump even high this year but even more importantly he's a team player. Very exciting player to watch. Great player and student.

  10. I agree with you, somethng needs to give with Boone's offense. It's almost like time has passed whomever is calling plays for Boone by. This offense looks like something that was ran many years ago..Run, Run, Run.........all night long even if they are down 14 points with 2 minutes left they continue to run the ball

I agree - Boone please pass the ball to Trevan Brown. Great hands, size and a bull to bring down after the catch.

  11. I said in the game against NCC that the lack of rushing yards would play a factor. Wilson a year ago had 113 yards rushing for Dixie compared to Pike’s 30 yards.

Last year against Beechwood, Dixie’s Wilson had 100 yards rushing for Dixie, but the margin of victory was much greater, 40 points compared to the 12 point win over NCC in 09. Even with a marginal running performance from Pike Dixie should win this by 14 points.

Pike is the QB amd Seth Bruns is their main Running Back. I believe Seth had well over 100 yds last week.
