  1. I saw the article in the newspaper, and saw some of the other venues that were in consideration to host the All-A in the upcoming years. For the life of me, I have a hard time understanding basic logistics.

With the lack of events that the Bank of Kentucky (NKU) is drawling in, why would they not bid for the opportunity to host a good size event for 4 straight days. This has to be better than "Walking with Dinosaurs," "Sesame Street Live" and other productions.

With the success that Northern Kentucky Teams have had in the history of the tournament I think the tournament would draw very well at NKU and make some significant money.

With the addition to several hotels that have been recently added to the Wilder exit; I think Northern Kentucky would make a great host.

  2. First-round matchups

    Wednesday, March 17

    • Noon – 4th Region vs. 16th Region
    • 1:30 p.m. – 7th Region vs. 8th Region
    • 6:30 p.m. – 9th Region vs. 2nd Region
    • 8 p.m. – 11th Region vs. 13th Region

    Thursday, March 18

    • Noon – 12th Region vs. 3rd Region
    • 1:30 p.m. – 1st Region vs. 15th Region
    • 6:30 p.m. – 10th Region vs. 5th Region
    • 8 p.m. — 6th Region vs. 14th Region

Wednesday games of 7th and 8th and then 9th and 2nd should be some great matchups.

Looks like many people will be attending the early games on Friday, and watching the NCAA games that night (esspecially if UK or UL are playing that night).

  3. Title IX has killed boys and girls attendance.

Used to you knew which team was playing when because Tuesday and Friday boys played, Monday Thursday girls played.......now they play on the same night, or Wednesdays......no one knows when anyone is playing!

    1) Absolutely! There is no consistency to schedules anymore.

    2) I also agree ticket prices have gotten out of hand. I don't mind them for adults, but I think student prices need to be no more than 2-3 dollars.

    3) One other thing I think hurts the crowds is the web broadcasts, radio, and this web site. It is very convenient to sit at home and listen to broadcasts on-line, or get updates on the game. Many people can keep up with their team and not have to pay for it, or go out and travel in the cold.

  4. I'm sure schools can get in a jam at times with workers, so I don't have a problem with a coach at the table. However with that said, all coaches know that you can not say anything at the table, and I would think a strong official would say something to the coach about his coaching/comments.

Officials need to be strong and make tough calls if they want to be successful. This is one case an official should have taken control of the situation and tell the coach that it is prohibited to coach from the table (provided the officials heard him coaching).

  5. That isn't true in this thread. McQueary is probably second only to Henley in wins the past three years and he is getting no support.

To follow up on your statement. Here is the coaches/schools with the most wins over the last three years (including this year):

    1) Holmes / Dave Henley(83 wins)- Great talent, multiple regional championships, far run at state tournament. Lived up to their hype over the past 3 years.

    2) Boone / Greg McQueary (59 wins)- Great talent, size, shooters. Made it to the regional championship last year.

3)Highlands / Schlarmann & Flynn (51 wins)- Very strong talent. Many college ball players (Simpson, McGraw, and more on current team).

    4) Beechwood / Rick Shumate(50 wins)- Have had some good athletes in the past several years, totaling up lots of wins, esspecially against the Div. III schools.

    5) Brossart / Mike Code (45 wins)- 2 All A championships, more than just a power house amongst "A" schools. One of the top programs every year in NKY.

    6) Campbell / Scott Code (44 wins) -Impressive since they have not been ranked at any time in the top 5 of NKY teams during this stretch but they are almost in the top 5 in total wins.

    6) New. Cath. / Grant Brennan (44 wins) - Keeps continuing their success each year, and the torch has been past down over the years.

Keep up the good work coaches!

  6. No excuse but NCC may be a little fatigued, just as Highland was a little tired after a tuff game with Mason & a game one day later with Brossart.

Highland has great depth and the Grubbs kid is a beast. Look for another great match up later this season vs the Breds.

The Pangallo kid is playing some great basketball during the last several games for NCC.

It is great to see a small players succeed!

Not only may a team be a little tired, but a team and coach can only prep their team on one of their opponents. When you play back-to-back nights, typically coaches prepare them for the first game (unless the 2nd game is much more important-seeded game). Since this district doesn't seed, it is hard to say which is more important.

This is a very good district and it should be fun to watch it play out.

  7. BC pretty much owned the game after the first quarter. Brown from BC scored 7 or 9 points early in the 2nd and it was never close after that. I noticed Gray from SK was absent tonight, he a very athletic wing player for SK. Boone has a solid team, not anything spectacular but they have two nice guards in Gabbard and Popp, and some size in the middle. I'm almost positive I heard Boone's coach yell pick and popp, the next thing you know Earles is screening Gabbards man at the elbow and Popp made a nice cut to the hoop for the bucket.

    SK...14...5...15...20...54

    BC...18..17..15...17...67

I wasn't at the game, and I know you can't just look at the box score and quarter breakdown to get a real sense of how the game went. But it appears that Simon had only a bad 8 min stretch in the 2nd quarter, but played with them the rest of the game. Is this not true?
